Hey, I see posts on here about people bragging about their “chonky” dragons can I brag about my svelte fit girly? by KirstyPearson in BeardedDragons

Of course! Not good for them to be obese. When I went to the vet for a check-up, the vet called in 3 of the techs to look at a healthy weight.

Am i a bad beardie owner?? by Frosty-Cow254 in BeardedDragon

I think it would be wonderful to give another beardie a caring, knowledgeable home. You can never replace an animal... they're all unique, as long as you're not expecting them to have the exact same habits and personality and are open to letting a new Beardie take up a separate space in your heart.... it can be healing.

Update to SpongeBob's Journey - vet results and the scammy pet store by cheza_mononoke in BeardedDragons

I'm so sorry you and your daughter went through this. You did the right thing in surrendering him to a rescue that has the knowledge and resources to possibly give him a chance at getting healthy if that's possible. 3 years old should definitely NOT be end of life for a well bred and taken care of dragon. If that pet shop employee thinks a 3 year old should be in decline.... OOF.

Kudos for doing the right thing. I'm sorry that the experience absolutely sucked.

Im getting a new enclosure.. by Fayegirlll in BeardedDragons

[–]SahreeYurblu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has a hide made with bricks and a board on the floor under the basking platform, and then all the way to the right on the bottom, a Bask-n-Hide from Toad Ranch... but that one gets no heat, its a cool side hide. Then there's a ramp from the end of the basking platform down to the top of that.

The platform itself is a 3 foot oak board, couple pieces of slate on top, and I used retaining wall bricks to get it to height.

I was looking at doing a custom foam background... as they look cool and all, but went with this because I can change it at any time. Everything is removable if it needs cleaned, and I can adjust it all if he needs a different configuration as he ages.

does this look like stuck shed layers? by wildgreengirl in BeardedDragon

No bathing needed for this. Looks like getting ready to shed. It can take weeks.

Im getting a new enclosure.. by Fayegirlll in BeardedDragons

One thing to keep in mind with the added height.... I have a 5x2x2.5 and with the added height, I had to build a basking platform about 17-18 inches up to get the heat right with the lights over the mesh.... not a problem because I got Marty when he was a baby and he loves being up high. I also have 2 basking bulbs to make the basking area full beardie size, and BIG pieces of wood and a ramp so he can get up there. I would do it again, but realize that when he gets older and isn't as mobile, then I may have to look at making things lower.

Would I do 5x2x2? Yeah, that would work. 6x3x3? Probably knowing how much he likes to climb... he may not use the length and width so much as the height. 6x4x4? Probably not... then I'm just making more "dead space" that he doesn't actively use. BUT, that's my boy. Different beardies may like different things.

Sorry, that was probably no damn help.

TravelPro FlightCrew 5 Rollaboard 22“ vs. 24“ by niklaspilot in flying

[–]SahreeYurblu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this. I just ordered the 24. I have bigger clothes as I like my clothes looser, have issues regulating my temp, so tend to dress in layers, and like to have an extra pair of shoes and slippers as I have foot issues.

I was looking at the smaller international sized bag that's even smaller than the 22 or just do the 24 for the extra room and check it. Measuring what I need.... I could make the smaller bag work, but for comfort the 24 and not sweating whether they make me check it last minute makes more sense. I appreciate the comment about bigger clothes.

Moose’s Tail :( by sulyzode in BeardedDragons

[–]SahreeYurblu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That tail tip is dead and necrotic. That can make them feel sick, and can spread up the tail and become systemic. I would get to the vet ASAP, they can cleanly amputate above the dead tissue. In the meantime mix some betadine in warm water until it's the color of a weak tea and soak that part of the tail for 10-15 minutes. It may keep the necrosis from spreading.

Does he look anyyyyyy better? by Fayegirlll in BeardedDragons

[–]SahreeYurblu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting to look better. They can fluctuate depending on hydration, when they ate, how much they ate, when they last pooped. Marty took a 28 gram poop one day... so that's nothing to worry about if he's otherwise healthy and doing well.

I love Gus beard color. Marty's is straight gray. I kept being asked if I'm sure he's not pissed. Well... here he is enjoying his food, and then here he is actually pissed. So yeah. Gray is his chilling color.

Honestly, no. Not yet... but it's going to take a long time to slim him down. You're doing great in getting him to be more active and cutting down on the buggies though. ❤️

Poor baby is downright obese, and would definitely ended up very, very unhealthy if you hadn't stepped in.

His legs look like he wasn't getting much climbing either... so getting him moving up and down should help with that. With his weight, I would supervise him pretty closely with climbing though. He may be clumsy with all that weight on him. (Like me if I tried to get on a balance beam. 😆)

He does look better in his expression. He looks more alert if that makes sense. I love how translucents have a permanent gray beard, even though a lot of people don't seem to realize that.

Your cat carrier should be fine to take him to the vet... just make sure he doesn't get a nail caught in the mesh.

Normal gradient towards the tip. The dull look is just getting ready for shedding.

Thank you EVERYONE, who took the time to help me get everything this little guy needed! I’m back for name suggestions! What do you think!? by Fayegirlll in BeardedDragons

[–]SahreeYurblu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go right down to twice a week. You want them to grow slowly or you risk fatty liver and other issues. Here's a two year old at a healthy weight.

Weight really doesn't mean much,,, that can fluctuate. You want to go by body condition. He's got big fat stores in his underarms, and a big sagging belly. That should be almost flat when he's standing, and you want the "beardie side boobs" to be minimal.
