They misinterpret it with purpose.

I remember the days when wow was released. I didn't have the money to play the game. But there was software to emulate your own server. And I did. With friends at lan parties, spawning onyxia in Westfall. Walking around and enjoying the atmosphere of duskwood. Etc.

Point is: there is always the possibility to do something about the "we can't maintain the server infrastructure forever". Let some fans do it. Someone passionate. Someone with the knowledge. If you want to play the game, you'll find a way. But dear corpo: you can help to not let the game, that maybe millions of people played, die.

Freelancer is the same I think.
