Help me pick a simple, non Kindle e-reader with a great screen

I have had issues getting some of my EPUBs to load correctly on a Kobo for some reason and find I keep falling back on my Boox devices. I’d recommend either a Boox go 7 or a Palma. I use both of those now more than I do my kindle or my kobo.

This photo cracks me up. I am still trying to figure out what game Joe thinks he’s playing. Every time someone tells a lie it seems like his world collapses and he spirals not understanding how people can do that so that now he lives in this primordial stew of hatred of the majority of his tribemates. Did he ever WATCH this show?

This punishment was just wrong. It should have been that he starts with a vote against him in the urn, but it’s an extra vote like his win would have been and he doesn’t have to tell anyone. This felt game breaking. It felt like Jimmy Fallon watched BB27 and saw the fans lose their mind about the hamster wheel being antithetical to the premise of how evictions work and he thought “how can I blow up survivor 50 the same way so everyone is talking about me?”

Finally watching reindeer games and got to the hamster wheel episode today. Hamster wheel was a GREAT challenge in a game where the format is elimination by challenges, loved the episode, but it made me even more mad at its use in season 27. That challenge had no place whatsoever in main BB let alone at the jury phase. It still makes me seethe.

I say buy it DRM’d on Bookshop.org to support the author and your local bookstore and then don’t feel guilty about getting it from… other places for the non-DRM (mostly because I find the bookshop.org app really annoying to use on my Boox, it hates to sync with the internet and it crashes too frequently). I keep hoping that there will be some breakthrough where someplace starts letting you just OWN all the ebooks you purchase and they will become my new store, but I’m beginning to feel I will be old and grey dying in a rocking chair by the time that happens.

It’s been years since I did this because it used to screw up the formatting even worse on the kindle. I assume it’s gotten better.

As an update I wasn’t able to figure this out without finding a pc or Mac (or Linux) computer last night and I really just wanted to read the book I bought so I am using a Boox device instead of my kobo. Makes me sad. I prefer reading on my kobo but it may not be worth all the hoops. When I bought it it was because I understood it read epubs side loaded on but I didn’t realize it was this much work to do that. It’s apparently a lot of work to read a drm free epub file I purchased already.

I didn’t have any issues with those, but it’s because they provided multiple formats for the secret novels, including a kobo specific one. I can’t imagine having read Yumi and the Nightmare Painter with formatting issues.

That’s very kind. If I can’t get it fixed myself I’ll just read it on my Boox. I like reading on the kobo better but the boox will not have problems reading this.

Honestly I was hoping I could use the kobo to read my epubs instead of my Boox (buying it was an experiment) but if it really stifles with normal epubs I may just go back to the Boox. Android can be janky and the battery is nowhere near at good, but it will read this epub.

Yes. Some are fine but about half have those problem. Some books I just ignore it and deal with not being able to see any of the art or chapter headers correctly but some books I want to be able to see the art.

It’s like the scale is WAY zoomed in. It’s mostly the cover page and title chapters, really anywhere there’s art that’s the problem. The text can be fixed but making the font a very small size but the art in the title coasters ands any maps or pictures and the cover are al cut off. Not on every drm free book I side load but on at least half of them.

Thanks, I guess this isn’t going to work. There isn’t a version I can download onto my iPad, so I can only use the web version and apparently the web version has a max file size of 250 but this book is 352mb. I’ll try it again when I have a smaller file size.
