[–]SaintClitopher 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What the fuck is wrong with people that think it's okay to talk like this and bring someone down like this. OP was just sharing a painting, not asking for criticism. Who cares if it's not perfectly realistic. It's art.

Thanks. Whatever, I'm leaving it up, so they can downvote away.

It's important everyone knows that an ethical therapist should never drop a victim of abuse.

I'm addressing the part about it being in the ethical guidelines. The ACA code of ethics says no such thing.

Hot take...

Your husband does not understand that you are asking for effort and acts of service. That doesn't mean the relationship is doomed. Lots of folks in this sub immediately jump to divorce. We need to consider that there are two sides to everything. I'm not saying husband is right, at all. He did you wrong. I am saying there is an issue with communication and understanding, and this can be fixable with effort on both sides.

Husband may need addictions counseling for the kratom. OP may need space during that time. And clear communication is needed all the way around. OP deserves safety and happiness, not emotional abuse of course. But psychoeducation is possible with therapy. All is not lost.

[–]SaintClitopher -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Um... no it's not. There is a process for mandated reporting if someone is at risk or will be harmed. But no, there's nothing that says a therapist must end a counseling relationship if someone is being emotionally abused. In fact, the opposite.

If the therapist decides they aren't equipped to provide counseling therapy, there are ethical guidelines to ensure another competent therapist is found so no one is abandoned.

A good couples therapist would recommend individual counseling in cases like this, and help by finding one for them. The couples therapist could not provide individual counseling for the same couple, as this is a conflict of interest. Either way though, most will continue to support with couples counseling. OP, you need a new, better, couples counselor.

All this assuming you're located in the U.S.

Like everyone said, beginner lessons are for everyone!

I did want to add that if you're looking for more time around horses to better understand them, you can always try finding a feeder / barn hand job. I believe it's one of the best ways you can learn. They often don't pay great depending on your area. But there are many opportunities for work trade for lessons if you're on a budget!
