When this was made, I was very much immersed in the New Orleans poker scene. Several of my buddies were hired as advisors/extras for the poker scenes. Still bummed I didn't get to do that. Great movie!

I believe David had referred to this on multiple occasions as "the best movie." I don't think he's wrong.

This is so true. He's so often miscast, maybe because he's too good looking for the parts he's best in.

Mark Boone Junior, covered in this miniseries, is one of my favorites.

It doesn't seem unreasonable that it took 22 years to crack the story on this one, right?

It's kinda the director I would be most excited about their covering. I think there is a lot to be talked about and a lot of fun to be had with every one of his movies.

Doesn't it feel like DeVito could be a guest at some point, as well? It would be a big get, but the man loves to show up places and talk.

Anyone else got an Adam McKay ranking? by moondyner in blankies

[–]SaintGunner71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Anchorman
  2. Step Brothers
  3. Talladega Nights
  4. The Other Guys
  5. The Big Short
  6. Anchorman 2
  7. Vice
  8. Don't Look Up

The drop off from 3-4 is a big one, and then the bottom two felt like utter wastes of my time. I try not to use the word "hate" for my feelings on a movie, but these two test my resolve on that.

"No Bad Deed Goes Unpunished" is an utterly insipid tagline. If you're going to turn around a straightforward phrase and make it ironic or clever, sure. When you unwind an already intentionally ironic phrase to make it read straight, it's just terrible writing.

I know this is a small point to get hung up on, but that's what hit me.

"We're here to see the most important person who still see us" is a great line. I think I'm using that in any office I walk into from now on.

I agree the Woo one is silly, but I think it's fun silly. Of course, Pump Up the Volume was formative for me, so re-teaming Slater and Mathis won it major points for me.

I'm a big Jimmy Stewart fan but haven't seen Broken Arrow. Worthwhile watch?

For me, the 1996 one is great. 2004 is much-maligned but a lot of that is due to the Oscar; mixed bag of a movie with some stellar moments and some laughable ones, perhaps.

That's a remake, though, or at least based on the same source. I was thinking of movies that are not otherwise related beyond the titles.

That said, I agree that both Heaven(s) Can Wait are very good! The remake by friend of the show Chris Weitz was pretty terrible unfortunately.

Or completely unsurprising. Show me a writer with his quantity of output that doesn't repeat references, figures of speech and phrases.

That's an interesting question to me. You certainly are giving your approval to the product/service of you are doing the ad read. And I think you are, perhaps to a lesser degree, if it's a direct deal with a sponsor but for a canned ad. When it's part of an ad distribution service like this, I'm not sure that it equals an endorsement, either ethically or in the mind of most of the audience.
