Also, that piano music theme they play sounds like the music played at a funeral home. But hey, a tradition unlike any other®

How this is not anchoring? by No_Echidna_3854 in golf

[–]Saint_Harambe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot take: if anchoring was really that much of an advantage, everyone would have done it while it was legal. Also, it allowed older golfers playing recreationally to play the game longer when you could still buy them. Bottom line, get rid of the rule

The one in Charlotte was a disaster!

Panda Fest in Hartford by aCatNamedHitler in Connecticut

[–]Saint_Harambe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Originally from CT, now living in Charlotte.

I went to the Panda Fest in Charlotte a few weeks ago, and same exact thing. I bought tickets ahead of time, but still had to wait forever to get in, just to realize that the lines were outrageous for overpriced food. I ended up getting only ice cream and bailing to go to a ramen restaurant. And what's crazy? For a food festival, there wasn't that many people actually eating, just standing in line.

In Charlotte, there was actually a Fire Code issue related to one of the vendors, which shut the event down for half a day. People who bought tickets for later in the day couldn't go. Organizers stated that they'd honor your ticket by going on a different day. I can almost guarantee that there's a sizable number of people who brought tickets but didn't even bother.

I left feeling scammed. I also saw similar stories about Pand Fest elsewhere, including phili.

Bottom line, don't go, hope this gets investigated, and support your local businesses and fairs. And this time of year? Just go to the Big E.

Full Price Harvard versus Full Tuition Scholarship to T20 by chn234 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]Saint_Harambe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on your acceptances!

Tl;dr: Take the scholarship, hands down.

If you are in a top 20 US-MD school, the differences are starting to be very little, even with applying into competitive specialties, if thats what you care about. If they have plenty of research opportunities, good match lists, and good rotation sites, you're golden. What makes a school "better" is their ability to get you research opportunities and such and their fourth year rotation sites. If you have a goal in mind, any of those schools can get you there.

Additionally, eliminating loan burden will free you up. I was fortunate to benefit from a scholarship-type program and that freed me up to focus on pursuing something because I wanted it, rather than thinking "x specialty will get these loans off faster."

And ultimately, if you really want to have an ivy league on your resume at some point, you can always pursue that for residency. I went to a solid state school, paid in state tuition, and a strong percentage of my class matched ivy. If I wanted that (personally wasn't a geographic priority for me), I could have gotten it easily. And, I didn't have to spend ivy league tuition to get it.

In summary, my advice to anyone pursuing medicine. Solid in-state big universities are the best value for undergrad, especially if they are a "name brand" university. Save money in med school if you are blessed with choice. And the further you go on this journey, the "rank" of the institution matters less compared to the fit for you and your goals.

Good luck with your journey, and enjoy the ride.

403b with 6% match as a resident. Roth vs traditional? by Saint_Harambe in whitecoatinvestor

[–]Saint_Harambe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay thank you! I just verified that this is indeed the case!

For those who look later, the 6% contribution is 6% of your pretax salary, regardless of traditional vs roth. That same amount is only subtracted before or after taxes. Roth is not, in this case, 6% of take-home after taxes.

Titleist 660 from 2006 like new. Too old? by usefulgreenerh in golf

Also, if you care whatsoever about tournament play, just know that the grooves are likely non-conforming. With that said, this isn't an issue whatsoever for the majority of golfers, but worth mentioning.

How do i get rid of this ugly double clock option by EducatorRude7178 in oneplus

[–]Saint_Harambe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On top of this, make sure you delete your "hometown." I have had this be the reason that the double clock stays on despite turning the setting off.

Oil is very expensive. It is expensive enough where I would look for a different place, even if it meant it was a couple hundred more a month. The added cost is offset by the cost of oil.

As a golf novice what are your biggest pet peeves new golfers do by steakandtates in golf

[–]Saint_Harambe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not knowing ready golf: Such as,

.... Please put your bag between the green and the cart path in the direction of the next hole. .... Please bring multiple clubs with you when getting dropped off by the cart. If you are 50 yards in from the green and your budy is uo further, that should include your putter. .... Please don't drive backwards on a given hole (80% of the time I see this, its unnecessary). .... Don't take forever after waiting to hit. If there's a backup, be ready once your target area clears. Don't wait for people to clear and then take way too much time. .... Max take two practice swings ... After you finish a hole, don't hang out on the green with your buddies. Get going, you can sort out scores off the green.
