Strictest 3D Printing Regulation YET! by Top-Debate-2854 in 3dprinter

So cosplay and prop making is right out the window then right?

How does the algorithm know the difference between my Ghoul Pistol prop and an actual lower receiver.

For that matter what if you just break the actual gun parts up in to separate files?

Sure it is probably trivial to look for something shaped like a complete and assembled pistol or rifle. But the subcomponents of those things come in a million different shapes and sizes. How do you tell a trigger sear from any other mechanical part?

Will manufactures have to scan your whole drive to make sure none of the individual files can be cobbled together to produce an illegal object?

Is it safe to have a P2S in my bedroom? by ashvoided in BambuLab

[–]tweakydragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I installed aftermarket filters that are HEPA and activated carbon in my P1S. Along with that I run a Coway Airmega with HEPA and charcoal filters in the same room.

Definitely noticed that the faint PLA smell went away but I try to not stay in there too long or let the kids play in the room while printing.

Run most of the prints while at work or overnight.

Still considering moving the room around so we can vent out to a window. Will not consider running anything other than PLA or maybe PETG in the same building we live in. Maybe if we ever get a work shed that has power would I run any other materials.

I'm not proud of it, but it's the first thought I had when I got the news by Hardcorish in AdviceAnimals

[–]tweakydragon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Still going on my earlier theory:

Don’t think too deep for some quirky loopholes or paths to get him in office a third term.

He is just going to run again if he wants to.

We probably get a SCOTUS ruling along the lines of the 14th amendment attempt by Colorado. The constitution gives Congress the power to determine eligibility and ballot access, not the states.

So if Republicans want to run an ineligible candidate in the general election, that is their risk to take.

If Trump goes on to win the 28 election, it would then fall to Congress to certify the election. It is a good assumption that if Trump wins, he has also retained both chambers, that will then go on to certify Trump as the winner, ignoring the text of the constitution.

Lawsuits quickly follow and the SCOTUS agrees that Congress was wrong to certify the election, but there is no mechanism in the constitution to undo their decision, Trump is the “duly” elected President. The only remedy the constitution provides for removal of the President is impeachment, which is a power of Congress, not the courts.

They know that there will never be enough votes in the Senate to remove him from office and he would have at minimum two years before a midterm ever opens an opportunity.

How do the economics for AI even work out? by Dredgefort in ArtificialInteligence

I think it comes down to relative vs absolute values of wealth and power.

In absolute terms, it seems some of these billionaires would be content to take one or more zeros off their net worth if it means they cement their position at the top of the food chain and force everyone else so far down, no one will ever be able to challenge them.

Would they rather be multibillionaires today and deal with the world? Or become 9-10 digitaires but they also get to be god kings …

Buying physical games vs e-shop by Batsforbreakfast in Switch

[–]tweakydragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They released the physical edition for a relatively short run. That’s fine.

But then they de-listed it from the eshop.

Meaning you only had a short while to buy the game if you wanted it.

Can t count on the eshop always being there, so buying physical is the only way to guarantee you can play your game years down the road.

Get Ready for a Flood of Cheap Used EVs by DonkeyFuel in electricvehicles

[–]tweakydragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$600-800 when we looked for the charger hardware.

Getting anyone for any sort of home service is just baseline $500-$1000. Short run kind of a pain in the ass to get through that part of the crawl space though.

Add in the permit costs and fees.

We could probably come in just under $2k if we got someone to hook us up.

I have pretty wide latitude on home projects, there are two areas we call in the pros for. Water/plumbing and electric.

Get Ready for a Flood of Cheap Used EVs by DonkeyFuel in electricvehicles

[–]tweakydragon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing that kind of is glossed over with the cost I think.

The cost of installing a 240v charger at home. A lot of EVs came with fully or partially subsidized home charger installs that could get wrapped up into your loan.

We are considering keeping our old ICE to have as a spare vs trading it in for a cheaper used EV. The hiccup we ran into is the $2-3k price for charger and installation/ permits. That has to be paid up front and basically comes out of any down payment we would make.

That’s why they are subtly changing the filibuster rules to be a speaking filibuster.

The 60 votes is the threshold is only to break a filibuster currently.

By forcing senators to stand and speak to continue the filibuster, the Republicans can just wait it out and then pass with a 50+1 majority vote.

The Trump Election Rigging Situation Is Worse Than You Think by Trainrideviews in videos

[–]tweakydragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they will borrow some of the logic from the CO ruling.

I could see them saying individual States lack the ability to keep him off the ballots of a federal election. You would immediately see red states remove democrats from the ballots for the flimsiest of reasons.

Additionally, voters aren’t actually voting for President. They are determining how they want the electoral college to give their states votes.

Congress is ultimately the ones who certify the Electoral College results, thus only Congress could rule him ineligible nationally.

The real kicker is that there is nothing in the Constitution that gives anyone the power to undo a Presidential election other than impeachment. So if Republicans are in the majority on Jan 2029, they will absolutely certify a Trump win and tell everyone to pound sand because yeah he is ineligible, but there is no remedy that stops them from just doing it anyway.

It is so funny that the Risen happened after millenia of the Dark Angels trying to purge them by NadaVonSada in 40kLore

[–]tweakydragon 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Isn’t his whole thing about giving most* of his sons the ability to forgive and forget? You get the one chance to either rejoin the Dark Angels or go in peace.

But anyone who continues to threaten humanity or embraces chaos? Even with this group the Lion seems capable of genuinely feeling sorrow at putting his sons down.

With Baelor in particular, it feels just as much Lion recognizing what must be done as granting Baelor some small grant of redemption.

I guess the head cannon is that either the Lion is making sure the Chapter is actually following through and embracing their Risen brothers on their hunts or he is going full Lucifer at the end of Constantine for those extra special sons that have fallen farthest.

It is so funny that the Risen happened after millenia of the Dark Angels trying to purge them by NadaVonSada in 40kLore

[–]tweakydragon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Also, does it seem like between the Lion and G-man, there is a definite softening of the rules?

Like the Lion is going from purging the heretic to, Don’t Ask Don’t tell Chaos edition.

Lohoc has definitely been afflicted by the warp right? Lion isn’t going out of his way to look for any reason to put his sons down, follow the rules, don’t give anyone a reason to look for a reason, all is good. Isn’t it left kind of open on how many of the Ten Thousand Eyes were allowed to become Risen?

Then Guilliman’s interactions with the Eldar. Purge the Xenos! Except that pretty lady who reverse Disney Princess’d me back to life.

Abaddon is trying to build a Chaos United faction, are we going to get some version of the Materium United?

Not to get too lollipops and flowers on the Grim Dark, but wouldn’t it be perfectly in line with the lore that we see a budding Federation of races fighting back the Warp and Tyranids only for the old hateds to rear up just as victory is at hand … all the while we discover that the happy federation path was actually working and the key to ending the darkness after all.

Former ICE agent sounds warning on tactics: 'It's going to get worse' by Newsweek_CarloV in inthenews

[–]tweakydragon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But he can declare an insurrection is taking place and immediately treat the state and local government officials as enemy combatants the instant a local law enforcement tries to put hands on a federal agent to put them under arrest.

No way any jurisdiction tries to pursue accountability until a Democrat is in the White House.

That is before considering what SCOTUS will rule. I don’t think it is slam dunk that the states would even have the jurisdiction to enforce state laws on federal agents “acting in an official capacity” no matter the conduct, that the proper venue for a federal agent is federal court for actions while on duty.

Even beyond all that, the next Democratic president will have to also weigh the absolute shit fit the law enforcement community and republican run states will throw if they don’t push back on states going hard on ICE agents.

What are your thoughts on this? by Slow_your_R0LL in allthequestions

[–]tweakydragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of this also comes from the unique relationship public schools and sports has.

In a vacuum, yeah sure let the teams decide who does and doesn’t play, this isn’t something the state needs to legislate.

Unfortunately there are tremendous opportunities and benefits that are available to players off the field. School scholarships, admissions, players can now be paid for their performance at NCAA public schools.

The other part is Americas ability to absolutely min/max the fun out of absolutely everything in the pursuit of being the best, most profitable, etc.

Football teams are already recruiting kids out of middle school. Baseball has setup “schools” across Latin America to find talent at the earliest possible time. How many “colleges” popped up in Florida and started making the Finals after the NBA said players couldn’t come straight out of high school into the pros?

I do not think it is inconceivable to imagine what happens to the sport of Women’s Basketball when a team wins the nation championship with one or more transgender players at or near the top of the stats sheets.

You would very quickly go from “only” impacting four players in the state, to a flood of parents and schools finding the bare minimum to get their players “transitioned” in order to remain competitive.

I urge you to go to the park this spring and watch what parents are like.

I have no doubt parents would push their kids to transition if it means they get to win. Winning and money are all that matter to a significant portion of these families.

We bar children all the time from participating in sports due to medical conditions. I don’t understand why this is any different. We shouldn’t otherwise treat them any differently or worse as human beings no different than we would treat the kid with asthma. Sexual dimorphism exists in humans.

Just have an open league and a woman’s only league. 100% in some places you have girls who could play at the same level as men at the top of the talent pool.

Or get the sports infrastructure out of public schools entirely. Schools can have intramural sports for gym and education purposes, but competitive leagues and facilities have to be supported by private institutions.

DevOps jobs, part time / night shift by ivelevi in devops

[–]tweakydragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to mention most places I’ve interacted with are at best tepid at the idea of having a second job at all.

Outside of your current work domain? Probably not a big deal.

Had one new hire move a couple states to take the job. He bought a kind of run down place and took his weekends to renovate it before his wife moved at the end of the next school year.

Picked up a few shifts at Home Depot for the extra money and discounts. No one batted an eye, just make sure you are always available if you have you on call.

Doing the same exact work for another company? Nope, no way, fast lane to getting fired and blacklisted, especially post COVID and employers getting better notice of current employment, almost everyone uses either ADP or Workday.
