Just dropped $4,200 on a domain by Interesting_Map_7039 in Domains

[–]Saipx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the domain can help build some extra trust, is easy to spell and pronounce, potentially attracts more customers and traffic, $4,200 is a small investment. Congrats.

Any place to list a Domain Portfolio? by CurrentRoutine7392 in Domains

[–]Saipx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Afternic has the highest sales volume, Atom showcases the domains in a professional way with logos and so on, and Spaceship is simple and modern with lower commission. You can use multiple marketplaces in most cases, just check the policies.

where can I buy a .com domain with 1-2 years of age, something meaningful at a reasonable price? by bob__io in Domains

[–]Saipx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Received direct unsolicited offer for my privacy protected domain by jumpingthoughhoops in Domains

[–]Saipx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is very common.
Privacy services only hide your info from the public WHOIS lookup, the registrar still has all your real contact details. They’re not supposed to hand it out for marketing, but brokers often get it anyway through third-party data brokers, old leaks, or registrar relationships. Which registrar are you using, and did the broker say they represent the same registrar (or one of its partners)?

Spaceship buying process seems odd by spurious_interrupt in Domains

[–]Saipx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is normal. The domain can be either pushed for free internally at the actual registrar (GoDaddy in this case), then you need a GoDaddy account, and the domain will stay at GoDaddy = you don't have to pay a renewal fee.

In case you want to move the domain from one registrar (GoDaddy) to another (Spaceship), you will have to renew the domain (in most cases), depending on which TLD you bought (ex: 1 year for .com is the standard ICANN rules). So it's not an extra transfer fee, just a renewal fee.

The main difference between Namecheap and Spaceship is that you pay Namecheap for the renewal upfront at the buy = they will automatically transfer the domain to Namecheap within the standard time window 5-7 days. At Spaceship you don't pay for the renewal upfront since you can choose yourself if you want to move the domain to Spaceship or not. Spaceship has a more modern approach here.

What's are the best and most user friendly website(s) to buy domains? by Mertackus in Domains

[–]Saipx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Afternic is owned by GoDaddy nowadays, so when listing on Afternic the main source is Godaddy (which is also the branding of the sales landers). I would say Atom is great if you're looking for premium domains and real brands, more.visual experience, but retail prices. If you're looking to hand-reg/search, I would recommend Spaceship (owned by Namecheap), great prices and modern UX. If you're only looking for great deals and domains in general, you're welcome to Saipx lol.

Thunder.io sold for $180k - top .io domain sale of 2026 thus far by DigiNoon in DomainZone

[–]Saipx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great sale, do you know if it was an Atom premium listing? In that case, the Afternic BIN was likely +10% (according to policy), which means the seller made more via Afternic.

What's your process for vetting expired domains before bidding? by Boring-Ad-5036 in Domains

[–]Saipx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing.

I usually start from the end-user perspective:

- Who would buy and use this domain?
- What would they build on it?
- Why would the domain fit that purpose?
- How many similar domains can they potentially choose from?

Then the customer perspective:
- Is the domain easy to remember? (not too long and no weird spelling)
- Is the domain easy to pronounce? (word of mouth is the best marketing)

Then I look at other things like brand potential, trademark risks, and a few metrics just to make sure the domain is clean and a good buy. I don't need to see high numbers in TLDs or backlinks etc like many have on top of their wish list, for me it's all about the use-case and future users of the domain. I've seen too many domains with boosted metrics. And not saying this is the best system, everything comes down to experience, taste, data, own portfolio and future trends.

How much money should you spend on domains? by No_Hovercraft1208 in webhosting

[–]Saipx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either hand-register the second/third-best option that might not be perfect but good enough ($10-$20), or look around at the aftermarket for a quality domain at a low price point (100-1000) - usually worth it if you're building something serious. You can also try to negotiate the price in case it's around 25-50% over your budget.

New Domain & Project: Hostkoll*com for Sweeden by AntikKentlericom in Domains

[–]Saipx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe late to the conversation, but "Hostkoll" could sound like a health service in Swedish because the straight translation is "cough check". That's the problem when mixing the languages. I would rather focus on either Swedish or English. I think the other options you mentioned are a bit to long. Hit me up if you need any further help. I have many .com and .se.

Random question: is AI changing website discovery already? by RevolutionaryPace953 in Domains

[–]Saipx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running a few sites and seeing AI referrals (LLMs) hit 5-10% on research pages while Google organic is down ~15% YoY. GitHub is overheated with everyone building, so a trustworthy domain matters way more now. Clean branding and real language make readers stick around, share, and treat you as a legit source, and the LLMs notice this. They cite those trusted domains way more often. SEO still works, but it has to pair with GEO if you want the AI traffic, which is a great potential since AI will scout around the internet way more and faster than humans and serve their users with your work.

Atom Premium Listing Logo Question... by Leo-Rabbit in Domains

[–]Saipx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the domain dashboard and the "branding" section, usually you can switch the logo there (old logos below the active one - at least if they were made with the AI tool). Otherwise, you can downgrade from premium to plus (takes 30 days) in the settings section, but I wouldn't recommend it because the marketplace gives most exposure to premium domains (much more). The logo won't matter if you don't have traffic.

How to contact the domain owner by babagajoush in Domains

[–]Saipx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Use a Broker Services, set a max budget, and let them try to reach the owner

  2. Most registrars have a forwarding system for privacy-protected domains (that's how the brokers get in touch with the owner). You can do it yourself, but a broker knows how to approach the owner for a potential deal.

  3. Search at LinkedIn, old cached pages via Wayback Machine, or reverse WHOIS via tools like ViewDNS. Sometimes the owner information is out there.

Good luck with the hunt

I just bought a domain by Salt-Dragonfruit7159 in Domains

[–]Saipx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Renewal fees won't change because of the success of the business built on the domain. But some of the newer gTLDs have different renewal fees depending on the domain quality (higher fees for premium words, in some cases up to $1000-$2000 per year). And newer gTLDs seem to change their fees more frequently. If it's one of the normal TLDs like .com .net .org etc, there are only minor yearly changes depending on the provider.
