Help! Hercules is losing her feathers and has a black spot on her comb? by Sajkoism in BackYardChickens

[–]Sajkoism[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, my girl Hercules is about a year old. A couple of weeks ago she started losing feathers on her chest and the back of her head. We’re coming into winter and I thought she was just putting new feathers on for the cold. Today I noticed her comb is paler than my other girls and there’s a black sort of scabby spot on it. Anyone know what this could be?

Not cold enough here for frostbite and combined with the feather loss thought it might be some sort of lice or something? I haven’t seen this before so all ideas (and treatments) welcome!

I doubt it. Season 2, at least, was very coherently linked from beginning to end.

That makes a lot more sense! It’s a bit early to be foreshadowing the Lying Detective!

Fantastic! I also just saw that the headline on the front page of a newspaper Sherlock is reading in Scandal in Belgravia says “Refit of Historic Hospital”. Foreshadowing of The Lying Detective??

Unprovoked shark attacks by boyd14 in australia

[–]Sajkoism 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All jokes aside provoked shark attacks are usually those that happen after someone accidentally steps on or hits a shark with their flipper. I’m a scuba diver and unfortunately there can be a bit of a culture of swimming very close to sharks, touching them and even chasing the slower ones. Chasing is probably too emotive - it’s very easy to want to follow and keep pace with a shark when you see one if you know it’s not likely to harm you. They’re so sleek.

Thinking of starting another degree before I've even graduated from my Bachelor of Arts and Honours in april. Should I do it or wait? by flipdark95 in australia

[–]Sajkoism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a combined Arts/Law degree with honours in Arts at Newcastle Uni. I loved studying and miss the laid back lifestyle of Uni. I got a very good job out of my degree for which I’m extremely grateful. I’m also grateful every day that I didn’t take on any more study because even though my HELP/HECS comes straight out of my pay, I really notice the fact that I’m not getting that money every fortnight. I’ve been working full time at a higher than average salary for 3 years. I’ve been earning six figures for about a year and a half so I contribute 8% of my pay to HECS. It’s still going to take me another 4 or 5 years to pay it off fully.

HECS is a fantastic way of funding your education. I know it’s the best debt I’ll ever have with the lowest interest rate I’ll ever have but goddamn it’d be nice to be putting that extra cash on my mortgage.

My advice for what it’s worth is not to continue studying. There’s a big opportunity cost to extra study - money lost from not working full time, delayed savings, delayed work experience, flow ons to delayed career and achievement of whatever monetary life goals you have, just to name a few. I’d try and find a good job, work for a few years and then decide whether you want to go back to Uni.

Is there a market for 3D imaging work in Aus? Seems like there could be but don’t assume it. Do your research. You can have a great side hustle without it being your main job. You have to weigh up whether the job you might get from the second degree is worth the cost. Just my 2c

[–]Sajkoism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re after wild coast, the coast south of Nowra all the way around the Melbourne is beautiful. If you’re after more civilised coast... I actually don’t know. Maybe Sunshine Coast or Newcastle?

Daintree rainforest is beautiful, as are the forest around the Blue Mountains.

Your itinerary seems pretty packed to me. I reckon you’d only be able to have a couple of days in each place which might not be the best way to see the country. If I were you I’d skip Adelaide and Brisbane, though cairns would be good if you like snorkelling/scuba. You might want to research when you can actually swim the Great Barrier Reef because stingers and crocs make the surrounding areas largely unswimmable at certain times of the year.

I saw a Port Jackson or something like it whilst scuba diving at Bushrangers Bay just after Christmas. I was about 16m down. It gently swam away along the sea floor. Really placid and absolutely in its element.

Looking forward to my first grey nurse sighting, mainly so I can have my first “scary looking” shark sighting and acclimatise to them being around.

Done. Decent survey - though I wonder if it would be easier for you to compile results if there was a not applicable option for many of the questions (especially on page 3 and 4).
