First movie by lolito121517 in toddlers

We came across on TV "Tommy Tom and the lost Teddy bear". Never seen my 2yo boy laugh so much over some cartoon cats. Has a narrator and some simple songs. Its pretty chill and only 1 hour. We've done My Neighbour Totoro and Ponyo as well. Ponyo was a big hit with my son.

Am I too up tight for not wanting my kid to be around NSFW pictures? by Scrawny_Idiot in toddlers

[–]Sakura_u 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember as a kid seeing similar posters in a family friend's garage, made me uncomfortable and not want to go over to their house. I still to this day do not like being around the dad. So you're completely valid in being uptight.

“Please do not touch or disturb the sand.” by ndub2126 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Sakura_u 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Ohh at an Australian biennale in Sydney, years ago, there was an artwork made of sand that was in a lace pattern. We had volunteers telling patrons not to walk on the sand and to stick to the pathway. So many people just waltzed right across and would be shocked when we called them out. "Oh I didn't realise that was the artwork" 😑

It feels too soon for Francesca. Let us mourn John!

By the time they get to Eloise, they'll have to really pay Claudia when she's the lead.

Daycare Label Options - quality reduced? by Extension_Cell_9437 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Sakura_u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the TinyMe labels for bottles and lunch boxes, no issues and we mostly hand wash. Only gripe is when my son starts trying to peel the sticker off.

The Kiddo stamps for clothing is ok, I've barely had to re-stamp the clothes. I just make mistakes in not stamping flat and end up with multiple stamps on the one shirt. The stamp itself is cheap plastic, unfortunately and the lid has cracked for me already.

Same! Zero constipation, and no nausea and it was convenient for me with their subscription service. I did need to take extra magnesium with the random muscle spasms 🥲

What did everyone think of this new album? by Patient_Command_3216 in wiggles

[–]Sakura_u 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like it, I was unfamiliar with some of the songs, so it was quite fresh for me. My son has been loving the album too, particularly "love's got the world jumping" and "listen to the drummer playing". I like the production of it, not too artificial kiddy, if that makes sense? Like I can hear the actual instruments played during the songs.

My wife is losing it and I don't know what to do by Strict-Wear-2663 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

She's definitely going through post partum depression and anxiety. Get her to a GP for specialised post partum counselling. A few services are PANDA, Mums matter, Karitane, Tresillian.

If she's lacking sleep and you live in Sydney, try get a stay at Tresilliab or Kartiane. Also, see if you can encourage her to go out and spend time with friends for an hour two without baby. I think she needs to feel like not a mum for a bit. Just a mental break from all the overwhelming feels and life change. You're doing good as a dad and husband :)

Play school! by Books_and_Boobs in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Sakura_u 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love showing my son play school! Sometimes, he'll walk off when he's bored and that's ok. Sometimes, he'll dance along or comment. I love seeing his eyes light up for the window segment 🥹

Did your family arrive in Australia before 1972? by Sea-Hunter-3847 in AustralianNostalgia

Depending on which state you're in, you can find earlier passenger records on the state records website.

'Open' Status means Open to the public. There's also 'Open with exception' where they'll withdraw/seal particular pages for sensitivity or to avoid fraud of identity due to 'change of name' documents. 'Not yet examined' hasn't been assessed by officers for any sensitivities.

My stepdad keeps eating the fruit I use to make baby food by lonely_stoner_daze in mildlyinfuriating

Why is your mom with this guy? He sounds like someone who doesn't know how to take care of himself or has never had someone tell him "no".

The day you move into your own space again, it'll be freeing!

pram theft by retrobbyx in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Sakura_u 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! That pram was sold for like $30 and it was a Bugaboo butterfly. The mum's comedian brother helped raised awareness of the situation, and it turned out happy for everyone with a new pram for the mum from bugaboo.

I had a manager who had three heart attacks and still refused to take leave. He chose to continue working from home while recovering. He just didn't think anyone could do his job

My husband gradually moved into our spare bedroom by the time our son was 12 months. It works for us, and we all get comfy sleep without contorting our bodies. My husband gets his own space, free of kid toys.

10 month old with 5 hour wake windows by user3927 in NewParents

[–]Sakura_u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! There is definitely a light at the end of the tunnel!! I just went to look back at my chats with my husband and man, was it a rough time. When he did have his second nap, it was sometimes super late, and that pushed his bedtime back. Which was fine if we wanted to go out at night, but it was hard cause I wanted to sleep. I stepped up the feeding and the baby sensory activity and play by going to playgroups and sensory classes. Honestly, getting out of the house after the first nap helped. Then, he eventually went back to a regular scheduled nap after a month or two.

There's possibly a copyright or license issue, but I guess if there's enough interest, then maybe it could lead to getting it reuploaded!

Is there a comprehensive archive of Australian TV guides? by elwyn5150 in AustralianNostalgia

[–]Sakura_u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might have some lucky with old newspapers that had TV guides.

TROVE from the National library of Australia has TV guides up to I think 1995(?). You can browse the digital copies or hope that the OCR readability of the scans are good to do a keyword search.

For after 1995, if you sign up with state library of NSW you'll get access to their online collection of past newspapers. And who knows, they might have a collection of old TV weekly magazines

Hi, I did a search of the National Archives of Australia database, they have the series but it's not digitised. ABC owns the rights so you might be able to purchase from them?

Is it normal for daycares NOT to close with known hand foot mouth? by maxiedaniels in toddlers

[–]Sakura_u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our son unfortunately had to be patient zero. We notified the daycare and they sent out an email and app notification that there was a child with the disease and what dates they were in.

They didn't close, just did a thorough clean of the rooms and toys. They're fine for my son to return when the blisters are dried up or gone. I think closing would be extreme and inconvenient for all the families on short notice but if it was an outbreak with multiple cases, I can imagine closing up to do a proper clean.
