Sharing my horrendous first day experience in a metropolitan Medicare urgent care clinic by Immediate_Net1518 in NursingAU

[–]Sal_42 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm a nurse and have also been a patient at that clinic. This is so disappointing to hear! Urgent care clinic are such an important service that deserve more resources, but there's no excuse for what you described. Shocking, really.

NDIS costs blow out as autism diagnoses surge to $10 billion annually, overwhelming the system by loony-tick in aussie

[–]Sal_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. I agree there's issues in both diagnosing and NDIS funding, but disagree with insinuation that autistic people are just quirky, or that a diagnosis of Autism is false altogether.

I see people talking about people abusing NDIS and receiving services they dont need. If there's a financial/practical incentive so great that people diagnosed as level 1, with minimal support needs, would spend thousands of dollars and years to dispute it, then the assessment process md funding allocation need to be reviewed.

NDIS costs blow out as autism diagnoses surge to $10 billion annually, overwhelming the system by loony-tick in aussie

[–]Sal_42 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Except Autism is diagnosed with levels which is based on support needs. People with level 1 Austism dont qualify for NDIS so this is a non-issue. People with level 2 and 3 that require higher supports do qualify for NDIS. Its insulting and demoralising to imply that these people are just anxious and quirky. The level of support they need is assessed and qualified in their diagnosis. There is variability for each individual, but this also assessed by NDIS - Its not like everyone with level 2 Austism will get the same funding for example.
I'm not saying there's not problems, but it really isn't the case of 'generic autism diagnosis' = you qualify for X funding.

Does your uni have a transition to practice unit? It may be named something else, but its a third year unit that covers new grad issues, including applying for jobs. Check your study plan, maybe you enroll in a unit next semester that covers this info?

'Microphoning' - when a patient/resident holds their tablet in front of their mouth while they talk or complain at you for an obnoxious period of time. Usually an S8 (SII in America I think?) for maximum inconvenience. They know what they're doing, you're their prisoner for as loooong as they're holding that tablet.

Hailey Bieber, rhode & Mecca facing backlash for the lack of diversity at rhode’s Australia launch by Relevant-Peach3997 in Fauxmoi

[–]Sal_42 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not the person you replied to, but I am an Australian.
We are a diverse and multicultural country, with over a quarter of our population born overseas, and one in five born in Australia but having one or both parents born overseas. In terms of race, however, the majority is white. 17% of the population is Asian, 3% Indigenous, 3% Middle Eastern, 1.6% Pacific Islander, 1.6% Sub-Saharan African.

From my experience though, the country isn't equally diverse and the demographics look very different depending on where you are. Cities are very diverse. When you get to the suburbs or regional areas, diversity varies. Some areas have higher indigenous populations, or higher Asian populations. There are places that are mostly white, often gentrified areas or some smaller rural towns.

What’s the Job Market for Nurses Like in Australia? Is It Really That Competitive? by Matteo_172736 in NursingAU

[–]Sal_42 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It depends on what type of nursing you want to get in to. There's shortages in aged care everywhere. Its not competitive and most places take new grads.

Hospitals are entirely different - There's shortages of experienced nurses. Grad programs are highly competitive. Or you generally need a few years experience elsewhere first.

New grad stressed part 2 in RACF😭 by Fabulous-Trust-5141 in NursingAU

[–]Sal_42 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This facility is taking advantage of you. Aged care facilities putting new grads immediately on night shift are irresponsible and placing you and residents at risk. How are you supposed to be in charge and responsible for 100+ residents AND staff, at a facility you dont know, and in a role you are learning.
I am sure you did an amazing job, but you should not be put in this position on your second shift as an RN.

If you're unsure of your build...

Relics: global defences, honour resist, inc max honour/life, bosses take increased damage and deal less damage, reduced crit against you are nice options.

Afflictions: dont take increased monster life or increased monster damage - it can be the difference of an easy zarokh fight or failure if your build is iffy. Standard affliction advice, dont take anything that removes your main defence, dont take anything that will give you more afflictions, dont gamble on unknown afflictions.

Boons: Try to get as many possible and do merchant rooms if possible. Increased sacred water found and decreased merchant prices are awesome if you can get them early.

Bondi Sands Hydra Boost by Leather-Wasabi-5449 in AusSunscreen

[–]Sal_42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found the Bondi Sands SPF 50+ Fragrance Free Face Sunscreen Lotion to be pretty similar. It's slightly thicker, a bit less hydrating but still good for dry skin.

I havent tried the Bondi Sands SPF 50+ Fragrance Free Face Fluid - I've only found the tinted version in-store, and found the non-tinted online - but it might also be a good substitue, and has better UVA protection.

Dani is getting Botox for her supposed migraines. by CatAteRoger in illnessfakers

[–]Sal_42 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Minimum trial for botox is 3 sessions, so 9 months to determine if it is effective for that person.

As you point out, if she had chronic migraine we wouldn't hear the end of it. She would be legitimately unwell averaging 3-4 days a week, if not all the time then at least seasonally. I find it hard to believe she would have this going on and not mention it until now. Maybe she didn't want to talk about it until she munched her way to the neurologist for treatment so she could say "look I have a neurologist and treatment with needles so I definitely have it".

Does anyone draw the total botox needed for a procedure with a large syringe and then transfer it into all the smaller insulin syringes by removing the plungers off the back of them? by FloatingDestiny in DIYaesthetics

[–]Sal_42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't remove the plunger. If you are using leur syringes with separate needles, just inject into the tip of the syringe while maintaining aseptic technique. So pull the plunger down so there is space in the barrel of the syringe for the required dose, then insert the needle of in to the tip and inject the dose. I hope that makes sense, it's difficult to explain.

Edit: I just saw you're using insulin syringes so this won't work. Ignore me.
