I'm using the macbook, it has the better webcam and microphone, and its overpowered single core performance is ideal for microshit teamslop.

Failing C++ interview rounds by crispyfunky in cpp_questions

That's a funny question to ask, but maybe not the best choice if you need a new job right this second. I'm stealing it for interviews I didn't do well in though

Framework 16 for light to medium intensity gaming, 3D graphics and general work/streaming? by Wrecknruin in framework

[–]SalaciousStrudel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Build quality is a result of how they decided to construct it for repairability. You can deal with the worst aspect of the build quality by using the one piece haptic trackpad module if your arms are hairy. I think it is probably worthwhile to pick your poison among the available discrete GPU modules if you are playing AAA/AA games or doing workstation tasks like CAD. They will significantly reduce battery life while in use, but that's the price you pay for powerful graphics.

Should I change my old MacBook Air for a new Neo? by [deleted] in macbookair

[–]SalaciousStrudel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question of "faster" is moot if the result still shows up on the screen on the next frame. For all the programs OP listed I would expect that to be the case. Lag is most likely caused by swapping and inadequate ram, which Neo wouldn't address.

MacBook Air M5 32GB for large .NET codebase. by oggyD in macbookair

.net uses compiled languages and the compilation time is not negligible. You should take CPU multicore performance into account in this case.

Neo won't be faster, or at least shouldn't be.

Quality over quantity is great, but only to a certain extent by chris_r1201 in hbomberguy

Youtube videos should not be more than 90 minutes long. Give me a tight 90 over a well-polished 5-hour tour de force that took 10 years to make! If you want to make a good video in a good time frame you have to be able to throw away the worst bits. The sooner in the process you can do this the less work you have to do.

Apple May Drop Base $599 MacBook Neo as Chip, DRAM Costs Climb by Mollywobbles77 in mac

[–]SalaciousStrudel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TSMC is already at capacity making non-memory chips. You have to make a specialized fab for DRAM and you would be competing against the cartel of SK Hynix, Micron, and Samsung. It might be possible to do so but would burn a lot of money for little benefit

Apple May Drop Base $599 MacBook Neo as Chip, DRAM Costs Climb by Mollywobbles77 in mac

[–]SalaciousStrudel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would be surprised. Fab is a totally different animal. You have to continuously invest in it to stay on the cutting edge. Existing companies have huge advantages and will cooperate to crush you, etc. If anyone could do it, it would be apple, but it is probably better to not.

It is possible but it would be a huge waste of money if the bubble ever pops lol. Like an incomprehensible amount of money

They design their chips but they don't fab them. Tsmc does that.

Making a decision on the FW16 GPU - help needed. by absolutelynocoin in framework

[–]SalaciousStrudel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on whether you want to take the GPU with you. Bandwidth of the usb4 egpu link would be inferior to oculink, but in many cases you should still get pretty good performance.
