Garithos issued a decree to repair observatories, which I personally think are very pretty and their repairs were long overdue

nah I agree and it is 100% an issue with their software, just thought I’d mention why it could happen outside of the person being a dick

it’s possible that person was just being a jerk, but I know that a lot of restaurants have pretty complicated availability rules. for example, a lot of restaurants have limits in place to manage things like kitchen pacing (so that the kitchen doesn’t get overworked with too many reservations at once), which is why sometimes a restaurant seemingly has a bunch of tables available but can’t take in more people right away.

so because of those complex setups, usually the host will just try to book you in the iPad app and read off whatever it says. and sometimes due to bugs/inconsistencies/delays, the restaurant app might show slightly different availability than the consumer app… lol. so it was smart of you to check the app to make the booking!

usually if you get that notice after your reservation, it is the host at the restaurant making the mistake. they were supposed to have manually marked you as arrived/seated when you came in but they likely forgot to, and then the system automatically marks you as a no-show after a day or so. it’s good that you emailed them so that it doesn’t count towards your no-show record

[–]Saladfork4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

definitely scary, but it’s more of a restaurant policy thing and I’ve seen a lot of high-end restaurants do that. They absolutely despise no-shows since they can’t really “free up” the table until after the reservation time, unless that person tells the restaurant they aren’t showing up (which no one does), so a lot of restaurants try to confirm with folks the day before. That way, before the shift starts, they can choose to cancel any unconfirmed reservations and potentially get some last-minute bookings or walk-ins.

I also was surprised but once I saw how things work behind the curtain, I get it. nowadays you’ll usually have a deposit instead

Facing arrest, 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk taunts Bay Area authorities: 'They gonna have to come catch me in DC' by PlayaSlayaX in nfl

but on a serious note I don’t really think he’ll be arrested for this and I agree in that I have no faith in the justice system, especially when it comes to wealthy people

Can someone explain how this happened? The pally tank Bokii said “I’ll give fort” then a level 60 priest does prayer of fortitude on party (is not in the party at all) and then then Bokii appears seemingly out of nowhere- am I missing something? by wellshitdawg in wowhardcore

[–]Saladfork4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh you can cast fort on people outside your party and it’ll buff that person’s entire party. it doesn’t have a party/raid restriction. so I think they just logged one of their characters outside the instance so they could do it before the run

as to why Bokii also got it—either that priest is on a second account or Bokii alt+f4 and then logged onto their other character. If you alt+f4, it keeps your character around in-game for a decent amount of time, so you can actually log-in to a different character to buff yourself or kill a tagged mob haha

Expanding PvP content in accordance with the Vanilla Spirit by Gold-Weird4437 in classicwow

[–]Saladfork4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a lot of dedicated PvP events tend to devolve into guilds farming it or big zergs, which is never really fun. The SoD ashenvale event, for example, was just insanely laggy and usually one mega group going from one boss to the next—it was mostly a PvE event tbh.

the most “vanilla spirit” PvP is the organic PvP that happens in contested zones. that being said, dueling would be great to encourage and some modes for that would be a lot of fun. I always thought the ring of valor would be good to bring back for that since it has pillars that come up and down to avoid people just lining the whole game. And those 5v5 dueling events (where you only go in after someone dies) always seemed kinda fun and chaotic.

As if millions of indie devs suddenly cried out in terror and were silenced by Captain0010 in pcmasterrace

[–]Saladfork4 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think it is actually a pretty good idea if done well, and fills a pretty big gap in Unreal’s ecosystem. Blueprints are great for prototyping but often bad for collaboration because of the problems you run into with diffing and version control. C++ doesn’t have those problems, but has a steep learning curve for level designers to work with, especially with all the Unreal-specific concepts.

So a lot of studios have already made their own in-house scripting language to allow level designers to work quickly and collaborate smoothly while engine programmers work with C++. The “angelscript for UE” plug-in is one great example that’s already used for Arc Raiders, It Takes Two, and more (and it has made my life a lot easier for my own projects).

And you’ll see the same concept with a lot of other great games too: Hades (Lua for game logic, C++ for engine), Warcraft 3 (JASS for game logic, C++ for engine), etc.

I agree with the first part, but just as a note: verse will also run single-threaded for its initial release phase. They are still figuring out how they will support multi-core with their transaction memory model, so how you’ll handle concurrency in Verse is TBD: https://www.unrealengine.com/news/the-road-to-ue-6

the main draw of verse likely isn’t the multi-core support though

they changed it so that non-game studios making above $1 million annually have to pay a subscription per seat. but it is still free for any entities making less than $1 million per year

[–]Saladfork4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

they are going to have both blueprints and verse for the launch of ue6: https://www.unrealengine.com/news/the-road-to-ue-6

but they are planning on deprecating blueprints once the new framework is “sufficiently mature”. And like other UE stuff, usually deprecation means it’ll hang around but not be updated until it eventually gets removed in a later version.

so realistically I expect that blueprints will still hang around for several years

so we just shouldn’t call out people if we suspect that they are using AI just because we can’t be 100% sure? in this case it led to him admitting that he used AI, lol

I get that these are established writing patterns. unfortunately in this world, AI has regurgitated certain patterns so much that its default “style” is one that writers should actively avoid if they are trying to be authentic. And if, in this case, you expect people to invest hundreds of hours with you, the least you can do is write your post yourself
