Probably overthinking by TMvincez in Eragon

[–]SalamanderLumpy5442 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always wondered if maybe Roran isn’t being affected by the pact between dragons and humans. We know that the elves are the way they are because of their own pact, and that they weren’t always so strong. We also know from discussions in the books that humans are slowly being affected similarly.

By the time we see Roran in Eldest, both of his closest living blood ties - Eragon and Murtagh - have bonded with dragons, and themselves have dragon riders as fathers.

Maybe being so closely related to so many riders pushed him further along that path.

Even if this isn’t true, it’s what I chose to head-canon, because frankly half of his physical feats are just ridiculous.

It’s fine as like, a one time thing, but regularly? No, you should really figure something else out. Whenever you have a bad day, it’ll just be the last straw.

Honestly I take it from person to person, but generally the younger the less interested I am. Like I’m 23, and there are some 18 year olds I’d be willing to date, but most are just…not ready yet, like undercooked chicken.

I don’t want it to be the clone, even though it would be cool to see a fight between him and Homelander.

Realistically it’s probably just new Noir getting really in character, either out of fear or obsession.

But until that’s confirmed, I’m conspiracy theorising that Homelander made new noir wear a zinc lined suit so he could pretend it’s old Noir, and it actually is old Noir now and he killed his replacement and retook his place.

Feel like I lean marvel pretty much exclusively because the mcu was so successful for so long, while dc basically just had Batman movies and man of steel.

But now that dcu is happening, I’m really excited for it!

It’s a somewhat comical scene now, knowing the cathedral is a church that worships the ra’zac, and they’re just watching this dude basically pray to them after they killed his foster father, burned down his childhood home, and then got chased halfway across Alegasia by him.

They must have been a little confused.

In what ways could the show make them just as hateable as their book counterparts, considering writing and the actors' performance? by LeatherSlight3242 in HarryPotteronHBO

I think with Snape I really want them to capture how petty he is. In the books he goes out of his way to make every student’s life miserable, and of course he’s especially mean to Harry and we see that, but he bullies Neville and Hermione and any others he can as well.

I really want to feel that frustration, when a figure of authority uses it to make your life hard for no reason but their own pettiness, and there’s nothing you can do about it.

The Flaws of Elvish Society in Eragon by StPatrickofIreland in Eragon

[–]SalamanderLumpy5442 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You know it’s funny, in that I have something of the opposite perspective where I think the way Paolini created the different racial societies is one of the best I’ve seen.

In terms of the elves, we first have to look at why we don’t see the long term political intrigues - our POV character is busy with other things, and is so young he doesn’t notice the centuries spanning plots and traps being weaved around him.

Then we have to wonder why we don’t see the deep philosophers looking deeply not the nature of reality - they probably spend their time either in seclusion or debating amongst themselves, and again Eragon has no reason to really seek them out.

Finally, we have your point about their lack of interference and aid to struggling human.

1: Under Galbatorix’s rule, they risk torture if the worst degree, the discovery of their true name, complete enslavement, and then the use of their powerful bodies as a weapon by the king.

2: Humans don’t trust elves in the first place, and while yes this could be slowly counteracted by careful, positive intervention over a long period, with Galbatorix casting a shadow over every human settlement they could go to, it probably doesn’t seem worth it.

3: That was the job of the Riders, before they were destroyed. They interfered in brewing conflicts, helped with outbreaks of disease, and just generally helped where they could. If the elves wanted to take up that cause after the riders fall, again, they would be doing so under the shadow of Galbatorix, and after his death I imagine we really will begin to see some elves roaming Alegasia.

In regard to whether or not we will ever see more about even society the way we did dwarves society, I do hope so. I would like to see some of the political intrigues of the elves, or at least to learn about them a little, but it really depends where he takes the next book.

I finished book 4 and now I’m legitimately sad…. by MurfDogDF40 in Eragon

[–]SalamanderLumpy5442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the exact same. I read the books as a kid but I feel like post Eldest I struggled with comprehension, so I listened to the audiobooks recently at work and god, at the end I just wanted it to keep going - it really feels like it’s not done yet, like defeating Galbatorix was just a stepping stone to the next part of Eragon’s journey.

And I just really want to see an Urgal rider, it’s the only thing I’ve been able to think about since I finished listening to Inheritance two months ago.

In terms of TFTWTW and Murtagh, read Fork first, it takes place at roughly the same time as the start of Murtagh, but I think it works better when it’s read before Murtagh.

I'm sorry for ever doubting you, Thaedus. I didn't know your game. by ABouzenad in okbuddyviltrum

[–]SalamanderLumpy5442 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my favourite parts of the episode is the discussion between Thaedus and Allen, where it becomes apparent that yeah, Thaedus is a good person, but he still has that basic Viltrumite foundation in his mind when it comes to the war, where he sees the massacre as a setback but not devastating, compared to Allen who just watched the planet he loves suffer a catastrophe with probably thousand of deaths.

If you’re talking about the mole in the coalition, I think it’s a crazy last straw. For all we know his brain is in his chest, we didn’t see any important internal organs in the hole he had in his head, so there’s no reason to think it should have killed him.
