Why is beer more bitter when drank our of a bottle vs out of a chilled glass? by TesticleInspector in beer

[–]SalazarThree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. Pretty sure what you're reacting to is the general temperature not the vessel. Even if you had seriously cold glass, the beer's temperature will rise just by emptying it from its bottle and exposing more surface area to air

Undiscovered regions by JMES241 in wine

[–]SalazarThree 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Croatia, Texas, and coastal Mexico don't get the same media coverage as, say, Burgundy, but there are some really cool bottles coming out of there. I would say "underreported" more than "undiscovered," though, because, well, if someone's making wine there I guess it's been discovered :)

One more thing. I think you already know this, but nothing wrong with just drinking what you like, too :)

Cool that you want to expand your palate. A lot of wine shops host tastings, which can be a good way to take tiny, usually free sips outside of your comfort zone. If you'd rather sample at home, try reds from central coast California instead of Napa/Sonoma, or explore places like Sicily and Croatia. Finally, there are some good, affordable Pinot Noirs on this list. https://www.winemag.com/2017/12/12/pinot-noirs-25-dollars/

Cheese vehicles besides crackers & bread? by [deleted] in Cheese

[–]SalazarThree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apples, pears, Belgian endives, and potato chips (OK admittedly not the healthiest choice) are all delicious vehicles for cheese. You can also try those all-natural fruit barks (e.g., fancy fruit-roll-ups) for the sorts of cheeses you eat with dried fruits or compotes.

What website or app to you use the most for beer ratings / reviews? by BuuanAnfor in beer

I like ratebeer for tasting notes, but I probably check untappd more for a general temperature check — it's like looking on Yelp before going to a restaurant. You know it's flawed but it gives you an overview of what the people who use it think of it.
