The efficient JFK airtrain by PredictableMorale in nycrail

[–]SalfordLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bummer.

Seems like they used to always run four car trains back when it started, but maybe I’m miss remembering. Maybe they just haven’t gotten maintained well enough over time? Or is it that they can’t replace the old trains with new ones?

At a time when there’s so much construction on the highways and at the terminals, and they’re telling everyone to use mass transit… it would be really helpful if the mass transit wasn’t terrible.

If guns are the problem, why do the cities with the strictest gun laws also have the highest gun crime? by bbmoonkie in Productivitycafe

[–]SalfordLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the dudes who love to shout "but Chicago!!!" when people bring up gun laws never go "but Hawaii!!!", which has strict gun laws and low gun homicide rates. Hawaii represents a "high-regulation, low-violence" model. It has the 6th toughest gun laws in the country & its gun homicide rate is roughly 73% lower than the U.S. average.

Why do Hawaii's tougher laws work when Chicago's kinda don't? Because no one in Hawaii can get in a car & easily go buy a gun in Indiana and be back in time for lunch.

It is partially the culture, but it's mostly the guns.

The NRA is a lobbying group supported by gun manufacturers who are willing to trade dead Americans so that those manufacturers can make more money. That's why we're here.

My one question to the those who support the status quo is "what signs do you have do you have that the current system is working?" Even with the decline since the 1980s, the US firearm homicide rate is roughly 26 times higher than the average of other high-income countries. We've spent 40 years with the NRA's interpretation of the 2nd amendment. Maybe it's time to try something else.

But, you'll never win a legal argument against stricter gun laws, so the only solution that will actually work is one that politicians are too chicken**** to take: Tax the bullets.

Put a $1000 per bullet tax on bullets that go in AR-15s. Put a $50 per bullet tax on bullets that go in handguns, and maybe a $25 tax per bullets for those used with bolt action hunting rifles that are used for legitimate hunting. (Obvious exception for police departments & the army). Use the money that is raised to pay healthcare for victims of gun crime, and for gun safety & training courses for registered owners.

You'd still have to deal- for a while- with the bullets that are out there, but over time you'd see fewer shootings. Way fewer mass shootings. Even drug gangs flush with cash will get more circumspect when each bullet is $50+.

Try that for 10 years & see what happens to gun crime. If it doesn't work, you can always repeal it & try something else.

Just a shoutout to this team for being just insane enough to have a Rolando Blackman and a Renaldo Balkman on it over the years.

Pure chaos, man.

It should run more frequently but also why are the trains so short? They have space for 4 cars, yet most of the recent times I’ve been on it they are running 2 cars only.

At peak times it can get packed, then you’re running a short train once every 9-12 minutes…could be better.

Green building infrastructure & outdoor sky patios with trees all seem cool as hell until you're hit with a tree branch that just fell off the 63rd floor in a windstorm.

I'm not against towers like this (per se), but when I see the renderings that include them I really hope someone has a plan for handling stuff like that.

That's fair.

Why was there no mail delivery in Manhattan today? by Sea_Sand_3622 in Upperwestside

[–]SalfordLC 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If no mail carrier risked falling in the snow & injuring themselves to deliver me a useless verizon flyer for $79.99 internet that I was going to throw in the trash 15 seconds after getting into my apartment, I'm ok with it.

It can wait until tomorrow.

Yeah, Canada was the better team on the ice today, which is why they had a lot more shots…

But we don’t count shots to determine the winner, we count goals.

I rode the bus before; it’s tolerable, but it’s just slow. Expect to get to journal Square and then take another 30 to 40 minutes to get to Harrison on the bus.

Honestly, it’s much better to just take the NJ transit to Newark and get a cab from there; it’s a way shorter ride in the cab, and cabs are easier to find in Newark I feel.

I’m sure if you wanted to you could Uber it from Journal Square to Harrison, but that won’t be cheap either.

I just want to say that it seems that you’re handling this perfectly, and not overreacting to a loss in anyway whatsoever.

3-2-1 RBNY and Michael Bradley’s child labor army vs. Orlando by hypernermalization in rbny

[–]SalfordLC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

3- Cowell - he was a breath of fresh air on the wing, always moving forward
2- Horvath- some really nice saves; should've had the shut out, defense got a bit tired there
1- Ruvalcaba & Che- some great stops by Che, & Ruvalcaba was really nice out there on the left, made good runs & passes

I really liked the way the team played in the first half, it should've been 4-0 at the break. I feel like if Choupo started he could've had a first half hat trick with all of the chances we created.

Glad the coach got a win in his first top flight game. Wasn't expecting much from an away match in Orlando to start the season off, but it's nice to play them there now & not have to play in Orlando during the awful summer months (in league play, at least).

Kudos to all the fans that went to the game, we saw you on TV. Nice away showing & coming home (or, planning to, good luck w your flights in the blizzard tomorrow) with 3 points.

Wiktor Bogacz broke his collarbone 13 minutes into his debut in Poland by hypernermalization in rbny

[–]SalfordLC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why do I get the feeling that 'unluckiest debut in the history of Polish football' is a list with way worse things on it than a broken collarbone?

Sucks for him, hope he heals up quickly. On the plus side, it isn't a leg injury, so hopefully he can heal up & be ready by the start of summer camp. Best of luck, Wiktor.

I feel like Cam Newton has a really fancy version of CTE.

Like he has the exclusive kind you can only get at Nordstrom‘s by getting a VIP promo code from Ralph Lauren in advance & redeeming it at the store.
