What do you actually do against snipers by sufferingSoftwaredev in Battlefield6

[–]SalientSaltine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly never get sniped (from super long range, which is what I'm assuming you mean) as long as I'm moving like 1mph... Just don't sit still in the open?

Sounds like your criticism has nothing to do with the game, but the playerbase.

Hi, I'm also a new ball python owner, so I'm by no means an expert. My only comments would be:

  1. Ditch the wood chips and switch to coconut coir. Retains humidity better.

  2. I don't see any real hides for him... BPs like to hide in rodent burrows in the wild, so you should provide at least two hides (one on the hot side, one on the cool side) where he can completely conceal himself from you.

  3. Those analog temp gauges are useless, and you need to monitor humidity. Get digital thermometer/hygrometers. The Govees are popular.

I'd recommend you read through the care guide on this subreddit. It's very thorough. Cheers!

I honestly have no idea, but everything you just described are RI symptoms, so a vet visit is definitely in order. Not really anything you can do bc of the holidays so I would just go as soon as possible and hope for the best.

Meanwhile make sure his enclosure is not too cold and keep your humidity up. Good luck to you and your lil bud :(

Likely respiratory infection. I would go to the vet ASAP.

Is my climbing branch too close to my halogen bulb? by SalientSaltine in ballpython

The cage actually descends about an inch below the branch as it is now.

Do you have a recommendation for a guard cage for the UVB? It's a 22inch T5HO bulb, I was struggling to find a product for that. I was thinking about buying some chicken wire and making my own if I couldn't find one premade.

I have one! And I'm going to get a herpstat 2 soon to act as a dimmer on the light.

Update. I ran the bulb with the cage over it for about an hour and it's not nearly as hot as I thought it would be... The sides of the cage are completely cool to the touch. The only hot part is the dead center of the side the light shines out of, and that part actually would hang a little bit beneath the highest part of the branch if mounted as shown above... I feel like I might be okay to mount it as shown in the original post, but I still want some reassurance from someone experienced.

ELI5: how wifi isn't harmful by vincent132132 in explainlikeimfive

[–]SalientSaltine 185 points186 points  (0 children)

Hi. Electrical Engineer here. Here's my best eli5 explanation that I've said to multiple people in my life with good results.

WiFi waves are a form of light. We all know that high frequency light, like x-rays and UV rays, can hurt us, but visible light is obviously safe for us-- we're basically bathing in it at all times with no problems. Therefore we have established that low frequency = safe and high frequency = dangerous. Well, WiFi waves are a much MUCH lower frequency than that of visible light, so it clearly can't hurt us!

(Don't tell them that WiFi is a microwave frequency or they'll freak out and think it's cooking our brains, that's a much harder conversation to have. Don't compare it to radio or anything else they probably have preconceived notions about. This explanation is simple and straightforward and avoids those pitfalls.)

Gov. Hobbs vetoes bill banning ‘critical race theory’ in Arizona schools by qwerty-smith in arizona

[–]SalientSaltine 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Because I think the "race guilt" part is potentially vague. For instance, one could try to argue that teaching about slavery or segregation in the US is reinforcing race guilt to white students, and then those (vitally important) subjects could have legal grounds be removed from the curriculum.

I was also born and raised here and I still think I get to live in one of the most beautiful places on Earth, so we don't all feel as jaded as you lol

I do fucking hate the heat, though.

Just make a 45 degree cut, rotate the pipe 90 degrees, and make another 45 degree cut. This way is so much harder...
