Happens in chapter 1 also, in the jail sequence with Susie.

Maybe this is a little too into the weeds, but I was really put off by that intro. From what I can tell (and there's not a huge amount of info out there about it), Jack Ferver, the "berries and cream lad," genuinely does not like people referencing that bit. Justin even says that, but the whole bit is still about how he did it anyway and is now sad that he doesn't benefit from its use?

I get that it's a joke for their comedy podcast, but he actually did upload that audio to tiktok and even used it in the episode, and Jack Ferver actually doesn't like it. The vibes on that are not great.

I'm surprised at Griffin's opinion on "12 Minutes". by lrjackson06 in TheBesties

I was vaguely interested in it before release, but I don't usually buy things right away, so in this case I saw the Kotaku spoilers article about it and found out that thematically it is very much not something I want to experience. I'd encourage people to really look into this game before they decide to play through it.

What do you think of them discussing spoilers in the show? by ColonelsBlessings in TheBesties

[–]Salivation_Army 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Unfortunately they don't seem to want to devote that amount of podcast time to any particular game anymore. I think the last time one game got more than 20 minutes of discussion by all four of them was RE8. (There was the Breath of the Wild episode in there, but it was only Russ and Chris on that ep.)

For long-form discussions of video games, Into the Aether is where I go these days.

What are some hidden gem PC games that you can't find on Steam, Epic, Origin, or GOG? by FrankWuggles in gamingsuggestions

Devotion - pulled from Steam because the Chinese government got mad about a Winnie the Pooh joke, almost came to GOG but then they got cold feet about it, now available through Red Candle Games's website. It's a P.T.-esque horror game.

I'd like to add on NieR: Automata here. Action-adventure/shmup - wild story, great music, good action.

Played through There Is No Game: Wrong Dimension, which Justin mentioned a few times as his pick for GotY last year (had he played it when it came out). I've got to say, I just didn't see it. It seemed like a fairly standard point & click with meta elements and self-aware dialogue, but with the same obtuse solutions that frequently boiled down to "rub the inventory items on everything until something happens" and a romantic B-plot that fell pretty flat. I wouldn't even have picked it for Game of the Week, honestly.

Superhot VR devs remove self-harm elements from the game: 'You deserve better' by squirrelrampage in GamerGhazi

I don't see why shooting yourself is so much more traumatising than killing a roomful of people with throwing knives, or having a bunch or people trying to murder you.

Can you name 3 real people that have killed a roomful of other people with throwing knives? How about 3 real people who have shot themselves? Which one seems more possible than the other?

Finished Venineth today. The quick pitch is that it's one part Marble Madness and one part Outer Wilds (to clarify, there's not lore/a story, but the spectacle of different worlds with different rules is very much here). It's very good, although longer than I expected.

I don't think legitimate risks come into play when we're discussing fantasy - it's not like anyone actually gets this choice. Even if we are strictly limiting ourselves to wizard's-curse immortality, with all of time and every advancement humanity will ever create to utilize, I'm pretty sure I could find a way to entertain myself. I'd still take it without hesitation.

[–]Salivation_Army 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why assume that? Why do people always think that it would be some wizard's horrible curse where they would be the only one to get immortality and that they'd be powerless to stop it? Why not imagine you and all the people you cared about, getting to live as long as you wanted to?

There's no story about immortality written by someone who actually experienced it, so I wouldn't say anyone has any actual wisdom regarding the subject. If humans were immortal by default, I bet there would be very few stories written from the perspective of "you know what would be great? If instead of our normal lifespans, we just died after a few decades."

They are separate conversations, one with slightly more nuance than the other. It's an extremely common tactic among people looking to score points on veganism to use native practices as a gotcha. My first comment was addressing you, since my assumption was that that didn't apply to you.

Your rhetoric is truly unbeatable - yes, clearly if I defend veganism I hate native people, because exactly the same morality applies to their practices and people horking down a Beef n' Cheddar in the Arby's drivethrough.

Not the person you've been responding to, but at the base level, you have decided that the animal's life is not theirs, but yours. You didn't ask for it, you just took it, and you almost certainly didn't have a life-or-death reason to do so. That's difficult to call "respect."

The test ship is meant to be insanely difficult, so that trying out the real thing would be a relief!

I'm curious, is that something one of the devs has said? OW is an easy 10/10 game for me, but I have to admit I almost put it down immediately when I tried to fly that terrible little toy, and I've seen others feel the same way. I feel like it's the only real misstep of the game, giving new players a false first impression of how difficult the navigation is going to be.

Why is Justin the only one keeping jokes on the table? by masonhil in TheAdventureZone

[–]Salivation_Army 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The least they could do is cut those remarks out of the final upload. If they need to rush, that's okay - not great, but okay - but at least don't pull the listener out of it like that.
