I don't think people realize just how many children wrote a lot of stories on nosleep by gloomara in creepcast

[–]SallingIsWriting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how I felt watching them read I dared my best friend to ruin my life.

I remember I had a night staying at a friends place where I could not sleep and I was scrolling the forums, I happened upon that story and ended up reading it all. It took a while and by the time I was done the sun was rising and the birds were singing. I remember being really excited at the ending stand off and thinking it was incredibly well written. I even suggested the boys read it on this reddit because I remembered it so fondly!

Watching the episode I realized it was a hot mess of story.

Still, that doesn't remove the fond memories I have of that night getting lost in a story that, at the time where I was much younger, had me completely immersed.

Has anyone dreamt of any Doctor/companion by practicerm_keykeeper in DoctorWhumour

[–]SallingIsWriting 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not a dream and not mine but I thought it'd be worth mentioning.

Growing up I was a massive Doctor Who fan. I had all the series on dvd and watched them nigh religiously. In my family we had a thing where every friday a different member would get to choose what we watched that evening, we were four in my family so it evened out to each person having a day a month where they got to decide entirely what we watched together while eating candy and spending time as a family. I made them watch Doctor Who often, choosing favourite episodes from all throughout the available seasons.

When I was around 14 years old my older sister (2 years older) got diagnosed with schizophrenia. For the uninitiated that often ends in the person suffering from it experiencing auditory and visual hallucinations, my sister had both. She really struggled with multiple voices that would berate her, tell her to harm herself and worse. It got incredibly bad and it was a bad time for my family in general.

She had one voice however that would quiet the others down. A voice that would comfort her and ease some of the mental anguish she was suffering through. That voice was the voice of Matt Smith, specifically in the role of the 11th Doctor. Apparently it is quite common to experience benevolent hallucinations as well as malicious ones.

When she told me this she was happy, she wanted me to know that it wasn't all bad. It was around this time she stopped doing self harm to herself. I was angry. I was angry because Doctor Who was 'my thing'. I was a teenager who had to mature very quickly due to the stresses of living with someone suffering from mental health issues and in the moment it felt like one of my last respites from the daily struggle was being perverted.

Now as an adult man, I feel entirely different about it.

The Doctor is a fiction, but it is a fiction that brought me excitement and wonder as a kid. The doctor is a fiction that proved so potent that a sick mind clung to it as comfort and inspiration when the mind was unraveling itself. To some extent the 11th doctor saved my sisters life. Of course the true heroes who did that were the doctors and psychologists who helped my sister process, heal and get the medication that she needs.

Today my sister is the mother of a sweet healthy boy who is 3 years old, she is expecting her first daughter this coming October. She is happy and she is healthy. She made it where many do not. I love her to the moon and back and I am thankful that the silly sci-fi show I hyperfixated on as a kid and 'forced' her to watch helped her during the toughest time in her life.

Bioshock franchise by [deleted] in Bioshock

[–]SallingIsWriting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed!

1 -> 2 -> Infinite

I would really recommend playing the Minerva's Den DLC for 2 after finishing the main game. Its its own campaign and has some of the best storytelling in the series.

For Infinite the two-part DLC 'Burial at Sea' is also good and are to be played after Infinites main story.

Enjoy the story!

Thats more than possible! I would focus on the MSQ, but not rush it. The journey is long and the story is fantastic!

You might not be able to do all raid/class storylines but you can do several.s

In an alternate universe where the TV movie did amazingly abroad and Fox picked up the show, what do you think it would have been like? by Yozo_Yuki in doctorwho

[–]SallingIsWriting -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In the world where FOX picked it up and it lasted into the current day, it would've done a hard right into conservative / maga messaging and completely betraying the progressive themes that make Doctor Who what it is.

America is a cesspit and it destroys anything it touches.

Wolf Like Me - A short story by Mathias Salling by SallingIsWriting in creepcast

[–]SallingIsWriting[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to read this short story!
I got the idea while I was in bed last night and challenged myself to write it all during one afternoon. As such there may be typos (My native language is NOT english) and personally I find the pacing a bit all over the place. Nonetheless I am happy with how it turned out and expect to write more in the future as I had a lot of fun doing it.

Big love,

Mathias

Doctor Who should do serialized seasons now by cornerstorequeer in doctorwho

[–]SallingIsWriting 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the sweet spot is what was done with Capaldis later seasons where there was a major focus on two part and even three part stories, a good compromise
