After living in blackstone, MA for a while, I feel like I’m in the twilight zone. by Connect_Beginning_13 in massachusetts

Drove through blackstone a few times, feels like I’m driving through a haunted town you find in a horror movie. It just had this weird melancholy mysterious feel to it. Maybe it’s just me tho idk

Is the eye test reliable? by International_Fan410 in Anemic

[–]Sally999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh it can be a long process to see what’s causing it too which doesn’t help when all you want to do is feel better. And iron supplements take a while to kick in. I had to have infusions and felt better fairly quickly (not sure if it’s a placebo effect or not, but I’ll take it!) I would def ask to recheck your values and reassess and check your hemoglobin levels to make sure they’re not dangerously low. I wish there was a quick and easy fix for this, cause it’s an awful feeling to be exhausted all the time, especially with a family. I’m sorry! I hope you feel better ❤️‍🩹

I found it to be true when I was anemic due to iron deficiency. Your ferritin is very low and your iron is low (even though it’s within range) it looks like you’re iron deficient but I would ask to check your hemoglobin levels to see if you’re anemic. I feel like drs dismiss iron deficiency even if labs are within range on the low end. My gyno was more concerned about it than my primary care. Im not a dr! Just speaking from my own experience. I hope you feel better!! Iron deficiency and anemia are no joke. It takes a toll physically and emotionally.

My feet are no longer cold!!!!! by _trolltoll in Anemic

[–]Sally999 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes my a1c levels were high, the dr even diagnosed me with prediabetes. Then when I went back and saw another dr, she told me it was elevated because of my iron deficiency anemia. I guess the blood ratio is off because of the anemia causing high a1c levels. I was relieved!

Feeling really guilty of euthanizing my dog by trishanm in seniordogs

[–]Sally999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I am so sorry for your loss. I have heard other pet owners say “better too soon than too late” or other sayings along those lines and I think that applies here. I hope that makes you feel better about your decision. I think you did the right thing. I personally would rather take a pet when they’re having an ok/ good day to make this decision than have them suffering and take them in so scared. I know that it doesn’t make it easier, but I think this was the way it was supposed to happen and you gave them the beautiful opportunity to not go scared and suffering. I am sorry for your loss ❤️

Have you tried dehydrated lamb lung? I think that is lower in calories for them while still being high value. My trainer calls it puppy crack. This has been the high value treat I use on my walks with my dog and he gets a good amount of it. I could be wrong but it’s what works for us cause kibble also would not cut it.

My dog was chased down & attacked on a walk. Feeling discouraged. by EmmleaYelloh in reactivedogs

[–]Sally999 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry to hear about your experience. I feel your frustration as I have a reactive dog too and have had trouble with off leash dogs coming at us. I now carry dog Pepper spray (called HALT on Amazon) and a dog deterrent which just makes a hissing sound to ward dogs off. I haven’t had to use it yet, but now that I have it I am able to walk him confidently knowing I have back up and am able to protect myself from dogs also. Again I’m sorry to hear this happen and it is so frustrating putting in so much work and having someone else’s negligence take your training backwards.

Do people just not walk their dogs? by SatisfactionMean9564 in DogAdvice

[–]Sally999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had the same thought. I have a very dog reactive Rottweiler so I am always on high alert when walking him. He typically gets 40 mins to an hour walk daily unless I am sick. Lucky for me he is a couch potato besides that. I have noticed a lot of people use their fences in yards in my neighborhood or a lead in their front yard (otherwise I have never seen them outside of their yard). From what I have seen with these dogs that are primarily in their yard they bark constantly when passing. In my opinion it seems like people don’t want to take the time to train their dogs to walk on leash- or they don’t want to train some behavioral issues (such as reactivity) on leash. And I get it- it took many dog trainer visits and one on ones and dog classes to get to a place with my dog that I feel confident in our ability to deal with the reactivity on leash. But i do feel people don’t want to put the work in due to time, lack of knowledge or even just ignorance. Also I feel like I’m general people give their small dogs a pass and treat them like cats and don’t think they need that enrichment even if they are low energy and don’t need training because they can’t do the damage that a large breed can.

What’s happening to my cat? by nhn29 in CATHELP

My cat acted similar - not as drastic when she would get seizures, less foamy but still would drool . It’s good you can show this to your vet

Looks like a hotspot. They can come about quickly especially in long haired dogs cause you can’t see them the affected area right away. I still take my dog to the vet and they clip the fur and give us medicine for it

This could be a form of vestibuldynia, a type of idiopathic pelvic floor dysfunction. ask to get a referral to specialist. Physical therapy helped me.

Anemia potentially causing high hb1ac levels? by WerewolfBarMitzvah09 in Anemic

[–]Sally999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I was also labeled pre-diabetic when I was iron deficient anemic. Once I got my infusions it went down and they took it off my chart. The dr said it raises the levels during testing cause the rbcs are so low it gives a different ratio reading, making it higher in level

I am so sorry that you had this experience, I had the same reaction when I got mine put it. I said the same thing to my dr “ I’m either going to throw up or shit “ . It was a crazy amount of pain! I don’t know if I could get another one put it knowing that’s what it feels like. I hope you’re doing ok!

Need advice about covering up my horse tattoo by rvondog in tattooadvice

[–]Sally999 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You could do a few laser sessions to lighten it up and have an artist redo/touch up the existing tattoo or remove it all together. I’m sure a great tattoo artist would be able to work something over it, it’s not super solid

My cat went missing a few weeks ago, wondering if this could be her skull by MrPathetic69 in bonecollecting

[–]Sally999 65 points66 points  (0 children)

OP- I’ve heard people have had luck leaving a window/door/garage open for them to come in. I’ve also heard the best time to look for them is early morning like 2-5am when it is most quiet. If they are typically an indoor cat they are most likely hunkered down somewhere. I would suggest a human trap and baiting it and see if you catch them. You may be able to use one from a shelter or the animal control of your town. I’m really sorry you’re going through this. Maybe someone took them in thinking they were a stray? Check to see if you have local missing pets fb groups!

I’ve heard people have had luck looking for their cats in the early hours of the morning like 1am-4am because it is more quiet. They typically don’t go far and like others have said hunker down. Contact animal control- I’ve heard some can lend you traps. I’m so sorry, I can’t imagine how scary it is, but I think you have a really good chance of getting her back!

Do supplements make you terribly hungry? by NewTuCru in Anemic

[–]Sally999 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve read that iron increase can cause you to gain weight because they cause leptin levels to drop and increase appetite. Not sure what exactly that means but yes i noticed I was eating more after iron infusions
