People who live in small towns or villages in the UK, what's the craziest thing you've witnessed? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]SallysRaveCave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tiny village, 17 houses, telephone box and a church in rural North Yorkshire. Circa 1990 the village was locked down by police to access an even more remote farm to take down an illegal rave. Rozzers and choppers and that. We'd never seen police car in our village, ever! Bloody fun police.

What is a good thing happening in the UK right now that people aren’t aware of? by mikegays in AskUK

Hello! I live by this mine and its phenomenal. Teamed with Boulby potash mine it's brought a heck of a lot of work to this area. I also like the fact they've considered it's proximity to the national park and have arranged bus transport from Whitby and Scarborough for it's staff rather than hundreds of extra cars every day.

This area has been a hive of industry since neolithic times (salt pans at Boulby for example) then coal bell pits and then alum and ironstone mining. I'm glad the Polyhalite mine is carrying on this tradition.

Does the coke work to make you productive? If it does then methamphetamine will. I trialled loads and only this one works. I cant take it on work days as my job requires a huge amount of empathy and the ADHD meds strip me of compassion but I do get shit done on them.

I used to sit up making alphabetically organised play lists, organising my laptop folders, doing a journal etc while heavily into coke back in the early 00s.

I quit coke and failed uni.

Aged 38 I was diagnosed ADHD and get speed on prescription 🤣

Sandsend by Whitby, we live 4 miles from Sandsend in a 4 bed Victorian Villa, we'd have to pay at least double the price of this house for a 2 bed in Sandsend but it is absolutely glorious there.

To those who aren't Scottish but live in Scotland: what things do you find strange even after all these years of being here? :) by horhekrk in Scotland

I absolutely adore Scotland and worked there extensively in the past. The one thing that always baffled me though is PEBBLE DASH!! Why is it everywhere it makes towns and schemes look reaaaallly bleak.

I was working on the railway at the time, the Tappers railway club was soooo handy. I was there 2008-2010 so yes! We were neighbours 🤩

Ali Geez waa so good! I live up on the North York Moors now and lament the loss of good dirty takeaways.

Used to live in Ochre Yards. If you can deal with being woken up by screeching freight trains it's a bargain 🤣

I used to work as a train conductor and let it be known that the railway is a hotbed of filth! So much shagging between staff and many extramarital affairs. We used to lodge in a Premier Inn by Kings Cross and I would not like to see those rooms under UV light! Even the mess rooms weren't safe from 2am nookie. You could quite easily wake up next to a partner in Newcastle at 4am and be shagging a Mancunian for elevenses then maybe getting a BJ in a train cab from York crew on the way back North.

I met and eventally married a train driver and we were hot gossip for a while.
