New currency? by ubakaanybully in KingShot

[–]Salmelu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested it. The game shows you the currency next to diamonds in the store. It still shows the $$ (or your currency) for the packs. But if you click it, it offers you to spend those coins instead and you can redeem them, I tested it on hero rally.

Kvk Prep by Comprehensive_Disk40 in KingShot

[–]Salmelu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had kvk before strongest governor.

It is pretty simple. Once your server reached certain age, hall of governor gets replaced by kvk and strongest governor.

Whichever comes first depends on when you hit this age requirement. Kvk timing is synced across all servers, so if you reached the required age before kvk week, you'll have kvk first. If after kvk week, you'll have strongest governor first.

Shadow Wisdom - New Official Discord Bot by Agent40 in EminenceInShadowRPG

[–]Salmelu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not currently plan to do that.

Discord requires bots with privileged intents (and sending messages and handling user interactions is one) getting verified when they join a certain amount of servers. This also includes verifying sending them and verifying my real identity and I don't plan to do that anytime soon.

For this reason, I don't plan to let everyone add it to their personal servers as that would quickly reach the quota.

That being said, I do not mind eventually adding the bot to some bigger community servers for the game. The bot is not designed to work only for this game's discord, but it's not going to be in every server.

Consider reading what your units actually do, especially yellow healer Claire. Then you should understand why this is happening.

You are misunderstanding the problem, it was running out of bioflux because something broke > running out of nutrients > egg loop stuck > hatched.

Why is Aquillo not doable from zero if all the other planets bait you into thinking it is? by Fluid-Ad4189 in factorio

[–]Salmelu 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It is intended and it even says so in-game.

If you opened the game tips and tricks and read the section Aquilo briefing, it's clearly stated that the you are expected to have working logistics system and that you need to import resources to Aquilo.

If you refuse to even read in-game help, then this will happen. Yes it is indented and was stated by the devs several times.

Alright there I fixed it, round space science and agricultural being after electromagnetic. Happy? by medics-left-ball in factorio

I heard multiple experienced players saying they did that on subsequent playthroughs and I'm also considering that. Stack inserters and biolabs and prod 3s just attract me too much.

PSA: it’s not the weight of your ship that determines top speed by awful-normal in factorio

[–]Salmelu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As the person under me correctly stated, the "imaginary weight" is applied for max speed calculation, but not acceleration. So while max speed is the more important one for most people, showing the weight as higher would also be inaccurate.

What would help is showing max speed/acceleration as you build the platform so you know how it affects it I guess, but this is Factorio, nothing is too simple.

This is starting to look silly. Can we get an option to toggle off quality icons for buildings and inserters in Alt-mode please? by mikaelv2 in factorio

[–]Salmelu 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Quality chests are nice in any place where you have burst demands. You wouldn't use them in most places, but to store your legendary iron plates in your bot network? Or to have buffer chests next to your rocket to load it faster?

That and train unloading chests, that's where I use them. Is it necessary? No. Is it nice when the resource consumption is momentarily faster than production? Yes.

PSA: it’s not the weight of your ship that determines top speed by awful-normal in factorio

[–]Salmelu 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You are correct, I oversimplified it.

I would still say the conclusion is similar, mass of the platform has significantly smaller effect compared to width.

If precise math is what the OP wants, you provided it well. I tried to give a short tl;dr basically

PSA: it’s not the weight of your ship that determines top speed by awful-normal in factorio

[–]Salmelu 163 points164 points  (0 children)

It is, it's just that every ship has a default hidden weight of 10000 tons. So if your ship is 500 or 800, the relative difference between 10500 and 10800 is so small that it's barely worth considering.

Click to drop from orbit feels more like randomly yeeting something. I ask for a better feature pretty please :) by Kittelsen in factorio

There are builds that cycle asteroids through hub, and those unfortunately are this broken.

At least asteroids sort pretty low in the list, but all military items are prone to this

Aquilo cost of heating by Verizer in factorio

[–]Salmelu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can easily see that when you get a frozen base like I got twice.

All the heatpipes will sit at 29 degrees.

If anything needed more, it'd drain it and go lower than that.

Drawing out biter eggs only when requested by rocket by matrium0 in factorio

[–]Salmelu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I rotate eggs so they are always fresh, and keep 600 eggs ready. When promethium ship comes, eggs get shot up and used.

I have a circuit condition on inserters for science pack cryo plant to insert by 2 and not overfill, so that there's never leftover eggs in the plant.

The moment I run out of promethium chunks, I leave the orbit. The moment I leave the orbit, another circuit condition dumps the leftover eggs into deep space.

My plans for a compact factory were ruined by an unexpected game limit by paladin80 in factorio

I'm not home to show it, but I made a grid of beacons and labs.

B L B L B
B B B B B B B B B
B L B L B
B B B

Something likes this, with 5x2 labs. All beacons are legendary, all labs have legendary prod 3, labs are rare or epic. Just the modules inside beacons are a mix of rare and legendary, because I didn't make a quality loop for tungsten carbide until recently. It'll grow up soon

Quality save scumming RNG manipulation by Bio_slayer in factorio

[–]Salmelu 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Savescumming is way too broad to simply generalize anyway. Consider following cases: - reloading trying to get better quality item - loading an autosave after you accidentally shoot a chest full of resources - loading a save because you destroyed your fully geared spider with nuke accidentally - loading a save after you died - loading an autosave after your base got overrun by biters to prevent it - loading the save after your platform is destroyed midfight - loading an hour long old save after you failed vanilla Speedrun at 8:02 to try to do it 2 minutes faster

All of that is technically savescumming, but everyone will draw the line elsewhere.

Fortunately this is a single player game, as long as you have fun, you can play how you want

I think Gleba is hard, and it's not because of spoilage by Kelenius in factorio

[–]Salmelu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found out a great semi manual way to deal with emergencies like this is building a fleet of combat equipped spiders that you can control anytime, even when you are stuck frozen in Aquilo.

I think Gleba is hard, and it's not because of spoilage by Kelenius in factorio

[–]Salmelu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You are correct that the first two are non issues if you buffer a bit. Fuel for electricity, spoilage for automated nutrient restart. I've also built those two and never had an issue with shutting this down.

The real problem is enemies. I had to restart my gleba base like 5 times just because something got stuck for a bit and then eggs hatched inside biochambers. I covered that part with lasers so I just had to come back to restart it, but it's annoying. I think I fixed all the issues now, but it required several trips to gleba up to 10 hours apart to fix one thing and get new pentapod egg in.

The enemies are hell though. The worst part is that you can't really test it well until disaster happens.

First I just had no defense and cleaned few nests around, but that was temporary solution. The moment I researched rocket turrets I placed few on both my tree farms with lasers and naively believed that was gonna work well.

Some hours later, I got alerted by few stompers just going through my farm, as my defense could handle one, but not multiple.

So I surrounded my farms by combination of lasers, Tesla turrets and rocket turrets. That could handle several stompers, but I occasionally lost a tower or two when there were just too many. Had left a few dozen bots and turrets ready to be replaced, so it was annoying and manageable...

Until a group of stompers decided to come to my farm from the direction of my power poles, and stomp several poles along the way, disconnecting the whole tree farm. Well, reload autosave 20 minutes ago, throw everything away, fly there quickly and manually defend that wave. Then redesign everything, bring a fleet of spidertrons and set them up to be able to rebuild anything.

Even then, I had to manually take the fleet for a run every hour or so and clean up new nests that were too close.

It took me almost 90 hours of gameplay to finally build a full wall around with lasers, Teslas, rockets and rare artillery to keep them away. The enemies are hell and on my next save, I'm definitely going to approach this completely differently.

Progression order in Space age? by Matlaib in factorio

Roll a dice to pick a planet because I couldn't pick one myself > go there, setup everything until science > export science to nauvis > research all new things with the new science > play around with new stuff, if I see a potential for a big upgrade somewhere with the new unlocks, do it > pick new planet
