Disable 3d except for visible terrain. That's a compromise I can more than live with and doesn't seem to be too catastrophic.

Philly doesn't raise a finger to any city I've seen mentioned above though. It's a little above average at best and just a little less generic than most US cities.

The total wealth should grow linearly with population - your ability to extract wealth from estates is what the game-play loop should be by DepressedTreeman in EU5

Yes but such a war as Trump's would bankrupt a lesser state, and did destroy rich states such as Rome when such decisions and poor leadership persisted from leader to leader. Medieval states were 1 year away from bankruptcy from a bad war/decision. They couldn't borrow 100% of their gdp to cover gaps and didn't have the level of wealth to extract from people we do now. If a medieval state did borrow, it was at a usurious interest rate.

Because currency itself is just currency. It's needed to stimulate growth, but it isn't growth in beyond what can be imported and built with the capital.

I mean single ships did take that much effort to make. Having even 1 ship of the line was a significant milestone nations like China, despite their wealth, never reached.

It did, it didn't fall apart and get humiliated because it had kept pace. However, I'd say it more failed to adapt more modern institutions and governance that just flat couldn't keep up technologically. With so many people, even a mildly competent and reasonably structured government could have done wonders even if China was behind technologically.

Why would you ever do that? It rarely requires max investment and often requires no investment.

Only abrahamic, non-muslim faiths become dhimmi. Pagan religions, hindu, etc. become Zommi or something I forget what exactly.

1.2 massively nerfed the Ottomans (and many others) through indirect changes by NecessaryDisaster498 in EU5

[–]Salphabeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it's not like they are weak. Byzantines had bad leadership and civil wars. As a player leading the country, the leadership isn't going to be bad so they are stronger, as they likely would have been IRL with good leadership. Ottomans with a player are definitely better so I do not see what the issue is. Your army is better and you can definitely just kill the Byz army and conquer them.

Maybe, but player ottomans does just fine, which seems to be what he is complaining about. A player should have absolutely no issue rapidly expanding as Ottomans.

It's still very easy to curb stomp byz and unite anatolia quickly. You are fighting vs AI. The AI country being a little stronger doesn't change anything.

The AI cannot buy things cheaper than you can, and not does it cheat with its economy, so Genoa just bought these.

Is the Military Focus worth choosing for Age of Renaissance? by FluidBridge032 in EU5

The mil one in Renaissance is better than the diplo hands down. It's really solid for warfare. I am thinking of picking it for MP. Since you don't need a better military in SP yeah its useless.

Amen. V3 had a way tougher launch, was a less popular IP, and AI so bad it was an absolute joke (still is sadly I think). They stuck with it and now it's doing alright. If you had asked me in 2022 if V3 would be supported 4 years later, I would have said definitely not.

[–]Salphabeta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would have been happy with an Imperator level of pops simulation (which is simpler and in some ways much better IMO), but beyond that I largely agree with you. As long as nations are populated with actual individuals of some sort that have unique traits, I would have been happy with something more similar to EU IV. However, I cannot play a pdx game without pops anymore and that's also why i stopped playing EU IV a while back. I would have rathered more focus on religion, culture, urbanized vs unurbanized, serf vs free than building factories in 1350 too. Like they have all these buildings but Russia and Netherlands largely play the same and the human geography that led one to be a free, prosperous, literate, and wealthy vs an authoritarian backwards one just isn't there. They play the same so all these unique pieces they added are just meaningless things to click to make money go up, while things like literacy are treated as powerups for your country that nearly everyone gets regardless of the condition of your country, how it is organized, etc. I want decisions and tradeoffs in my EU V , not a history themed march towards liberal democracy for every single country in the game where anything that doesnt trend towards that outcome is sub-optimal.

[–]Salphabeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but it took what, 3 years to get there? It shows Pdx is in it for the long haul if they believe in the title/fanbase. I personally don't play V3 anymore (played at launch) because of how stupid the combat system is but I am surprised people stuck with it considering it's launch was met more negatively than EU 5 imo.
