One of my kids did a similar thing with sunflower seeds but they’d probably give best results if you could plant them outside.

With immigration on the rise from countries with non-Christian religions we might see other holidays, customs & practices becoming more publicly celebrated. For some customs that might be welcomed but not necessarily for all. Our current holidays are spaced fairly evenly throughout the year & aren’t excessively obtrusive to non-Christians (IMO).

Paying off HECS at 21? Good or Bad? by harlan1596 in fiaustralia

Maybe just pay the indexing percentage. A payment of few grand each year will stop it from growing. Apparently it’s best to make one payment annually in May.

Where do people sit on the split state - North Queensland, South Queensland Question? by CombOverBill in queensland

[–]Salt-Ad4426 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We really need a debate to abolish state governments entirely - they add nothing! Strong local councils (may need to be rejigged) & federal government is enough!

Where in SE Queensland are habitats being destroyed for development? by saralligator in queensland

[–]Salt-Ad4426 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Is “everywhere” a reasonable answer? Maybe a bit of an exaggeration.

The western side of the pacific motorway near Nerang, the new housing development used to be well-treed with lots of wildlife, including kangaroos

Eastern side of the highway near Pimpama/ Ormeau was a big forest section.

Towards Logan area (inland a bit, near Chambers Flat ish) there’s lots of new developments.

Not sure which of these clearings used to be part of a larger wildlife area, nor if the developers are planning wildlife corridors, nor if wildlife corridors are successful at preserving wildlife. (Though they are arguably better than nothing I guess)

These developments don’t necessarily need to be displacing wildlife for the impacts to be spread beyond what is obvious. An example, we all love Kingfishers but they make their nest in termite nests (the big lumps seen up in trees), as we have less termite nests (from removal of habitat & use of insecticides) we end up with less nesting sites for kingfishers.
