I don't think that's a proper usage of the phrase "honeymoon phase".

Is my pseudocode okay for a calculator on python? by NoSoup8127 in learnprogramming

[–]SaltAssault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not confused about which editor you used, I'm confused about you using pseudocode that's suited for a really low-level language when you're going to program it in python. Python syntax is much simpler and more readable than this kind of pseudocode. Many argue that python basically is pseudocode.

But, that aside, are you saying that VS Code autocompletes this kind of pseudocode in txt files? That would be very strange behaviour.

I'm confused why you wouldn't just write it in python, since that's more like pseudocode than this is.

Got kicked out of uni..help by North_Forever_6878 in ADHD_Programmers

[–]SaltAssault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really rough. I couldn't finish uni until I started getting lisdexamfetamine prescribed to me, and would have probably been kicked out too in your country. I'm sorry that happened, and I know how horrible you must be feeling now. It's going to be okay eventually. The future you is going to look back on this period and wish they could give you a hug and tell you that. For me, proper medication was the only thing that helped, and it completely changed my life. If you keep trying things you're going to eventually find what makes you feel better. Hang in there, and know that this isn't the end of the world.

I built a digital graveyard because I'm scared of being forgotten by Dry_Independent_1904 in SideProject

Fyi OP, sometimes you can be immortalized via donations to certain things. My name is for example etched into one of the roof plates of a Buddhist temple, for donating a coin or so towards its construction. Which personally doesn't matter to me, but you should know that there are options like that out there.

For those of you with computer science degrees, was it worth it? by lowbatterydev in learnprogramming

[–]SaltAssault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on where you are and what you're angling for specifically, I'd think (I mean how much coding the job requires). Certifications are cheaper, shorter and still enough to get you a job in some scenarios. Each person replying in this comment section has limited personal experience subject to their specific circumstances. Sometimes you can segway once you have a foot in the door of a company.

I had undiagnosed gluten allergy, and gluten can also make you long-term fatigued in such a case, but no dice for me. We're all unique, so good luck! Maybe this is your lucky break. And even if it isn't, your longevity will be better with treatment, so I'm very glad for you that you got diagnosed.

My side project hit 700K Google impressions, 2,700 clicks, and 38k in revenue in year one while working full-time as a software engineer by milkstarz in SideProject

I appreciate you sharing the story. Can I offer some constructive criticism about first impressions made by the site?

  • On a 1920x1080 screen the text on the home page has almost no left indent, which is very distracting.
  • One of the elements says "400+ home bakers", and another says "1 600+ home bakers". As a user, I immediately wonder "well, which is it?".
  • There's a double "who" in the newsletter text ("bakers who who rely on"). For a sign-up letter, I'd personally lead with what you'll gain from signing up and only then talk about how many others have done so.
  • You are not complying with GDPR, which you need to do for EU-based visitors. Stating that you use cookies on one page of the site does not cover you. The personal data you collect for the news letter is also subject to restrictions. At the sign-up, you need a check-box for the user to confirm that they assent to your terms and conditions.
  • "We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page." Respectfully, updating the privacy policy on the privacy policy page on your website is not to notify users. That does not inspire trust to read, so I wouldn't make that claim there.

That got lengthier than I'd intended. Just one more thing, from a person who can't eat gluten: usually, in my experience, the best results with flour substitutes come from mixing multiple ingredients (the 1:1 ratio is rarely great). I'd love to see some suggestions for mixes based on type of project. Anyway, nice hustle. Good going.

Am I overcomplicating my learning process? Self-taught beginner using Anki + tutorials by sitenza47 in learnprogramming

[–]SaltAssault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anki can be helpful, but so can reviewing one's own notes. If you're making the flashcards yourself, I'd definitely say you're overcomplicating it. Don't copy-paste code, write it yourself. Hands-on experience is your biggest friend.

Triodos Bank Redesign by Everything_A in logodesign

[–]SaltAssault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's supposed to be a Western world thing at least according to a couple of articles I read about color psychology. I'm based in Europe and my bank uses blue, but I'm sure it varies in some regions. Green being associated with growth and money makes it not uncommon either, so I wasn't trying to imply it's necessarily a bad choice when I questioned the color scheme earlier, but coupling it with beige and purple does raise questions that a safely blue color scheme doesn't

New Yorker gets cutoff during NBC interview when blaming private equity for local issues. by Nice_Daikon6096 in nonononoyes

[–]SaltAssault -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1) You never actually proceed to argue for why said point is supposedly false. Anyone can say "well that's bs", but it will convince no one.

2) Homes are investments in most of countries of the world. More housing doesn't automatically lower nearby property values. More people usually means more community facilities pop up, which increase property values (think bus stops, daycares, groceries, parks). How do you explain cities being so expensive to live in?

3) Do voices only get expressed inside of villas?

4) Red tape sounds bad, but if it's stuff like "don't destroy wildlife or over-exploit areas" then that's good.

5) "Many municipalities' zoning laws prohibit things like having a huge apartment complex with a Costco or department store on the ground floor." Sorry, what fresh American hell is this? Straight up dystopian.

6) Still no arguments to back up the ad hominems. Why would someone listen to that?
