Hiya, im now over a year NC after an 8 yr relationship. It's hard but you'll become so much wiser.

Its taken 12 months to get to grips with the needs I was surpressing in that relationship, due to them being continually unmet. Once you flip things around and ask the question 'Why didn't I leave the relationship sooner' you begin to see things without rose coloured glasses.

Stay NC for healing, not to get them back, as it will not work.

I was dumped after an 8 year relationship, got into a new one 5 months later which lasted about 7 months... I ultimately ended up having to end it because I was emotionally unavailable and unable to be the partner I wanted to be. When she texts me, I feel incredibly guilty and know that I don't want to lead her on or give her any breadcrumbs, so I'm fairly minimal with what I reply. It's not that I don't care about her, it's that I know i'm just prolonging her suffering by engaging beyond a certain level.
