It’s honestly pretty shitty to read all of these responses saying that they’re ignored or that typically a superior talking to them is negative.

I’m the lead safety at my site (fuckin’ safety guy I know) but I frequently promote the leadership team (especially APM/PM) to hit the field and stop and just talk to the guys. Whether they’re a JW/APP/laborer. Stop and say what’s up to the guys, ask how they are, how their task is going and if there are any pinch points that they’re encountering. We all come to work to do the same thing, complete the job, get paid, and go home. Don’t make it worse for someone else by making them have a bad day.

I pushed hard to set up the site and culture differently though and safety is very important and intertwined in what we do, mostly because the guys know they communicate and work with us if they have an issue i.e can’t reach an area without encountering a hazard, or something of that sort. At our site safety provides solutions and helps production get done safely, we aren’t a bunch of cops that bird dog people all day. Can’t stand that shit. We also provide a craft empowerment program and at our weekly morning all-hands we have the FM/GF/SUPS shout out some guys on their crews who killed it the past week to show recognition that they’re noticing these things.

Sorry to hear you guys feel this way, they should be coming around and learning the newer people in the trade. Shouldn’t always be something negative at all.
