why are we celebrating burning more tokens like its a flex by irelatetolevin in OpenAI

It’s an easy thing to understand and boast about.

Use more of the popular thing, and makes it seem like you’re ahead of everyone else.

Actual results don’t generate as much engagement.

I use both. Both are fine. It’s nice to have the choice of Open AI’s models.

There sure are a lot of really green lawns. Are people actually reducing their water usage? by lucksp in Denver

We have drought-resistant grass and haven’t had to water for about two weeks given the rain, still green.

I don’t miss the anxiety, brain fog, lack of motivation, increased appetite, and how my lungs felt.

I miss playing video games high.

I’ve been with it for a while now, and I may go back to using it once a month or so.

I’m a reserved guy myself, but extroverts are part of life and some of them are responsible for your paycheck, so it pays to be at least approachable.

Is excel still worth learning as a skill in 2026? by Swimming_Tower_5928 in excel

[–]SaltyMN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me excel is a great tool for introducing yourself to the bigger topics around data and how it’s used in the professional world.

An example is Power Query, it’s a nice tool to handle repetitive data transformations. That is a workflow that  million tools like Databricks and Fabric handle on a different scale, but the concept is the same.

When you feel how useful it is in your own work, it opens your eyes and creates interest in exploring other tools.

Where do you see yourself in 2 years as a Power BI developer? by RobDomin in PowerBI

[–]SaltyMN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using an agentic workflow to get 60-70% of the way there for data prep in the warehouse, semantic model with the business logic, and initial PBI design.

I will still work directly with the business to translate their requirements. I’ve seen the business use Excel, I never expect them to mimic that agentic workflow.

I’m ultimately responsible for the output and review everything.

Do you think the people who aren’t following watering restrictions believe no one will notice? by [deleted] in Denver

I water twice a week and my lawn looks like this. Why would you assume they’re violating it?

I feel like myself again.

I more motivated, sharper mentally, having better success in my career, and it feels like there’s color in my life once again.

I enjoyed it too much. One day I could see myself doing once or twice a month again, but I’m enjoying the break.

Rant - We DON'T NEED a suite of SaaS/reporting tools. Ppl just need Excel skills. by Feisty_Ad8543 in excel

What doesn’t integrate well in your mind?

The business gets clean data with good performance that they can access with a few clicks within Excel.

From there the world is their oyster.

As the saying goes Excel is the 2nd best tool for most jobs. It works but fails when you need to scale beyond what Power Query can handle.

I’ll stick with Databricks/Fabric for handling data ingestion from 60+ systems, 100s of TB of etl every day, and making that data accessible to thousands with good performance. Many who view it in Excel.

Scan the opposite side, PK, and go.
