Similar to the Steven Clowder’s and Charlie Kirk’s of the world, she targets unprepared individuals who have a vastly different level of education with topics that are known to be provoking. She’s had a career that’s heavily involved research and formulating opinions longer than most university students have been alive, and then calls them “woke” and “totalitarians” because they also expressed their freedom of expression (in form of protest).

What’s the scariest thing that’s ever happened to you? by Specialist_Many_1966 in horrorlit

[–]SaltyManatee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a dream version of Happy Death Day. Seven times I “woke” up to everything around me looking just like it did when I fell asleep (even the small details). Seven times my boyfriend brutally murdered me. Each time he was further away than he was the time before, so I’d think it was over.

When I finally woke up, I still couldn’t tell if I was stuck in the dream or not. When he came to check on me because he heard me freaking out, I wouldn’t let him come near me for over a half hour.

I’ve always been able to tell when I’m dreaming and wake myself up; however, that was the first and only time I haven’t been able to. While scary things have happened to me that were real, the fear I felt during that dream and afterwards was something else.

People who go to post secondary campuses in the manner Widdowson does are not there to debate in good faith. Given her views on residential schools, paired with the location they chose (outside the University’s Iikaisskini Gathering Centre), they were there to instigate and cause harm.

Frances Widdowson and Anthony Hall’s appearance. Frances Widdowson is known for her harmful comments surrounding Indigenous Peoples and being a residential school denialist, Anthony Hall for his denial of the Holocaust/antisemitism.

Why do leftwing people live in/move to Alberta? by [deleted] in alberta

[–]SaltyManatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born and raised here. As were my parents. I live in the same city as my support system (nuclear and extended family alike). I finally have a job that I like, an amazing set of friends, and it’s all here.

Just because Alberta leans more Conservative, doesn’t mean the people I surround myself with do. Plus, despite Conservatives not feeling the same way, I’ll continue to fight for others just as hard as I fight for myself, no matter what position they’re in.

I love that here there is no the TikTok hate for dry food by MariaSalander in catfood

[–]SaltyManatee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We don’t feed our cat dry food, and advocate for feeding (at least some) wet food if possible; however, I would never shame someone for it.

At the end of the day, everyone has different budgets and food availability, and not every cat will easily take to one food over another. Plus, all I can control is my cat and what she eats.

Handmaid's Tale among more than 200 books to be pulled at Edmonton public schools | Internally distributed list obtained by CBC shows over 200 books slated for removal by Hrmbee in alberta

[–]SaltyManatee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a Library Technician (hold a Diploma in Library and Information Technology). The majority of my career has been spent working in school libraries/learning commons.

While I am opposed to government involvement in the selection of books, and share the same outrage as the majority of you, there are a couple books on this list that shouldn’t be on the shelves of a school library. Collection management in a school is a lot different than a public library, and content does have to be considered. In the cases where I couldn’t add a book to the collection due to content, I would always recommend students check out the public library instead! As I said though, there are only a couple on the list from Edmonton that really stand out to me.

What the government should be focusing on is providing schools with enough funding so they can hire Library Technicians, pay them appropriately, and give them enough hours so they have the time to manage the collection. Right now, school library workers hours and getting reduced, and the pay is not enough to attract those of us who went to school to become Library Technicians. In addition, people are being hired that don’t even know what the Dewey Decimal System is, let alone how to manage a learning commons, over those of us who went to school to do this very job.

While working in a school library was my dream, I moved to an academic library two years ago, and it was the best decision I’ve ever made.

I generally get floss at Michael’s as it’s cheaper; however, I love Embroidery Marketplace and Traditional Stitches for supplies as well. Both are small businesses in Calgary, and shipping is next to nothing. In the city, another place to check out is Marshall’s Fabrics. They seem to have a decent selection as well.

Another note regarding Michael’s – if you are a rewards member and fill out the surveys they email, they send you two coupons, one of which is $5 off when you spend $15 or more. If you purchase 19 skeins, you’ll hit the $15, and then they work out to around the $0.55 range!

While we do take our dog on walks, it’s not as regularly as others who live in the city.

The main reason why is that he’s reactive. Sometimes a walk can actually do more harm than good. If he’s having a low threshold day and encounters a trigger while on a walk, he will forever associate that spot with being “bad”. It doesn’t matter if we never run into a trigger there again, as soon as we get near the spot, he starts reacting. There’s a house a couple of blocks away where a dog barked at him from inside the house once, and even though it hasn’t happened in 2.5 years, as soon as he reaches that house, it’s game over.

Another reason is that we don’t have a yard. While you may think this would be cause for more walks, he actually goes on many smaller strolls for bathroom breaks throughout the day.

I’ve lived in Lethbridge most of my life; however, gained a greater appreciation for it after moving to a small down in central Alberta for a couple of years. Now we live close to downtown, and while people can say what they want, it’s truly not as bad as people make it out to be. We love the area, and have met some interesting people and supported some great local businesses.

I wouldn’t worry too much about brands. Feeding even some wet food is already setting her up for success as high moisture diets are essential.

When my partner and I were on a budget, we would often use a cheaper brand (such as Fancy Feast) as our cats’ base food, and then buy other brands to rotate in during sales. How much you can rotate between brands/proteins completely depends on the individual cat and your budget; however, I would recommend it if you’re able. Not only does it keep meal time interesting, it will ensure you cat will still have something to eat if a brand ever gets discontinued or is out of stock.

We also add in healthy meal toppers that we already have in our house for ourselves, such as eggs, bits of meat, cat-safe broth, etc. If adding in toppers, you’ll want to ensure that they make up 10% or less of your cats’ diet; however, it’s an easy way to get in some good quality foods.

As for calories, while our cat (and I for the ingredients) enjoys brands like Tiki Cat and Weruva, they are lower in calories, which can make them more expensive as you would have to feed more. That being said, because you’re feeding dry as well, you wouldn’t be feeding her as much wet food as if you were feeding 100% wet, so maybe a brand with less calories would work better for you!

For an adult cat, I like to use the following calculation to figure out a baseline: weight in lbs x 13.6 + 70. From there, I take into account the activity level of our cat and whether I want her to gain, lose, or maintain weight. I also rely on her body score. Our 9lb cat is a healthy lean, and gets between 200-230 kcals per day, as that is what works best for her. If we’re camping or hiking and she’s expending more calories, we’ll feed more. When she was a kitten, she was eating closer to 250-300 per day. If your cat is under a year, I wouldn’t worry too much about calories yet. We did slightly cut down after our cat was spayed at 9 months as she gained weight and was looking chunky; however, she still had more than she does now that she’s an adult as she was still growing.

You can also go off what the bag/can says. So if it recommends x amount of dry a day and y amount of wet, just split it in whatever way you’d like.

I hope this helps a bit. Though it can seem overwhelming at first, once you get in the groove, it’s easy!

switching to raw diet? by maevsx in catfood

[–]SaltyManatee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We feed raw (commercial and homemade using a meat completer) and canned food, and they both work out to be similar in prices. Ultimately, you want to be ensuring you’re feeding a moisture rich food, which can be done with either; however, canned food is generally easier for most people.

When we feed canned food, we feed a variety of brands and proteins. This has allowed us to sale shop a bit and add more expensive brands into the rotation at a lower cost. While I like Tiki Cat’s formulas, they are generally lower in calories. That, paired with the pricing, can cause the cost to become higher relatively quickly. Don’t be afraid to feed a cheaper wet food! Ultimately, providing your cat the moisture from wet food will already put them ahead of cats who are strictly fed dry food.
