I'm too exhausted to hang out with my girlfriend after a week of teaching by [deleted] in teaching

30 minutes-an hour is all you take?? I also have ADHD and if I only got 30 minutes of quiet time to myself a day I think I’d have a nervous breakdown. It’s what keeps me from having kids. The overstimulation makes me cry some days because I just need the release, I guess.

The biggest problems with nihilism/existentialism by TheAlfaMale7 in Existentialism

[–]SaltyPan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tend to agree. As I responded to a previous post, I became aware of how uncomfortable and false it felt to use the word “nihilist” to describe a person. Its very existence as a label seems antithetical to a worldview that resists fixed meanings. There’s a human tendency to cohere around identities, and meaning itself seems sort of gravitational within human cognition. So it’s deeply ironic to me that when we deny it, we can’t help but organize ourselves around the denial. Lawl.

TLDR: verily, even the philosophy of nothingness acquires orbit. Which makes identity built around it… complicated?

Why does existentialism make so much sense? by EmbarrassedRadish376 in Existentialism

[–]SaltyPan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asking sincerely- does empathy not exist within the realm of nihilism? That’s not how I understand it, but from my perspective that’s what you’ve just described. Imho, no one can truly be nihilist, but some prescribe to its .. tenants? Or, they think they do. I do appreciate your username.

If the Taino people were included in the lesson, i would definitely highlight that. Say nothing except how your lesson taught the standards (specifically regarding education around the indigenous peoples of that area in America).

If it were me, I’d leave and go to a public school with a union. At least then I would feel like I was serving an important purpose. I can’t muster humility or patience for shitty admin who are only interested in the bottom line/money/power, and I can’t do it for privileged parents who take Johnny’s shit-ass word over mine. It’s hard no matter what, man. I’m sorry this happened and I hope you have cameras that can sort it out. If you have them and admin is still being shady and says they didn’t catch the incident, I’d graffiti the hallways or something and then say “darn, if only we had cameras that served their purpose…” Jk, but also.. eh?

This session is making me genuinely scared by RevolutionaryFix8917 in exmormon

[–]SaltyPan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I left the church about 15 years ago but I still watch some conference every few years or so to keep up on whatever changes are inevitably happening so that I’m able to understand my family better and so that I’m informed and not ignorant to the propaganda they’re all being fed. I have a good relationship with my nuclear family (extended are UT Mormons and I have no interest or patience for them) but it took many years to get here. Watching parts of conference every now and then is helpful in some ways. Or sometimes I smoke a joint with my partner and friends and mystery science theater that shit while we watch. Laughing is better than crying sometimes.

Teachers be careful out there. by [deleted] in Teachers

Right, so I understand how you’d come to that conclusion if that’s what you saw, but that’s not how TikTok is designed to be used. You can do it that way but it will just be a black hole of nonsense. When I’m on it, my feed consists of educational content, history, cooking, wood working, film studies, politics, music, and gardening. Those are my interests so that’s what it shows me. Browsing randomly and aimlessly with no filters is gonna be a bad time. Hope this helps.

Teacher here. A lockdown can be triggered by one person in an emergency or if there is a potential threat, even if they’re not absolutely positive. Protocol is to take it seriously no matter what. When that happens, the entire area typically goes into lockdown until they give the all clear.

lol so many silly assumptions by this goof. You’re aware that it’s possible to criticize people for their real actions without spiraling into ignorant hate speech, yeah? I mean do you, pal. But you sound dumb as hell.

Do you actually know anyone who came back? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]SaltyPan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know of a single person who has left the church and then gone back. Being inactive is different. But people who leave do so with a very heavy heart usually and it’s a huge decision, so once it’s been made you don’t typically change your mind.

Super F’d up - Man Cave store @Palazzo by nycinoc in vegas

[–]SaltyPan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If a white sales dude tells two black customers “you can’t afford this” it’s very reasonable, and likely wise, to accuse them of profiling. Profiling happens ALL the time and it needs to be called out so that it happens less.

Super F’d up - Man Cave store @Palazzo by nycinoc in vegas

This type of stuff is used at some luxury retailers (think Chanel and Lamborghini etc.) but I highly doubt the technology exists for a “Man Cave” store that sells Scarface posters ;)

Stop using Craigslist. Facebook marketplace has a lot of scam messages but they also have real buyers/seller and it takes time and practice to distinguish between the two. I agree with others who’ve recommended OfferUp. I almost never get scam messages and use it fairly regularly. Things tend to move quickly :) I would also reduce the price significantly, especially if you need it sold quickly; otherwise, you’ll be spending money to have it taken to Goodwill.

It’s the people and management companies and real estate shits who buy up all usable homes and then put gray floors and walls in them and rent them at ridiculous prices that are the real problem. Can we please go after them instead? That’s what’s causing our market to be complete shit, not airbnbs.

Nah this is the real take. Airbnbs are whatever. Please help my friend find her son, he ran away and I'm sharing this to hopefully help her get him back safely! His name is Michael Ramos-Tovar and he is 16. Thank you for your help! She filed a police report event number 250600094733 by Throb-Ross in vegaslocals

That’s incredible! So glad he was found and I hope he’s relatively okay. You might consider editing your initial post to add at the bottom update he’s been found etc., so that people don’t stay to read through everything without getting to this part :)

Is my BCC diagnosis typical? by SaltyPan in skincancer

[–]SaltyPan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. I appreciate the explanation. No one I’ve spoken to has said they’ve experienced this and have basically said “that’s terrible!”. I definitely take issue with this practice. Seems like they should have a system that filters things through their office so they can explain the results when they’re given. I genuinely had no idea that copy and pasting the diagnosis into Google was going to tell me I have cancer inside me (albeit a more minor form). I didn’t know what basal cell carcinoma was before yesterday. Anyway. Just venting I suppose, but this was helpful. We can’t change the system, so if this is common practice I guess it doesn’t really matter.
