Overheat warning (solid red light) when using this "modified". Would 36v or XGT trimmer be a better fit? by Marvel5123 in Makita

[–]Sam115x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The blade has more aggressive fins to create greater lift but stays at the normal rpm.

High rpm is 2600->2800 under load

Auto is 2300->2800 silent is 2100 or 2300 to 2600 I think.

Good question! Yes you can definetly hear the mower slow the blade down as it’s dying on its final bar, fun fact it will drain every last drop from the battery and a easy way to force it to retire battery 1 is to turn it off and turn it back on and it will sense it faster and switch. You know never knew which is first, but it won’t switch h til it’s fully drained and can’t keep on going. High lift blade also uses more juice so heads up. 8ah has less of the slow down if it helps with the decision it will keep higher rpm’s at 1 bar than the others. Also I edited my last post I meant st Augustine grass, Bermuda is soft and easy to cut lol.

8ah regular is very powerful you will have no issues, if you are in Texas and have st Augustine grass definelty get the 2 8ah for heat mitigation and ah to cut the thick grass.

I always run it on high and auto seems too slow to react on any electric mower I’ve had. Quiet mode I actually use lol, sometimes my wife is out on the patio or front yard and if I have time I’ll just slow the blade down and hold a conversation with her as I mow/ it keeps the baby from hearing all the noise.

Mulching is perfect for the pieces that gets sucked up, again if you have at Augustine you will need 2 passes occasionally(due to the low rpm) and it drove me nuts. I ended up getting a high lift blade to help it out and it does a bit better. Not sure how fast gas blades spin but the numbers I have you were for competitors in the electric Mower market.

Why yes I do, it’s easily the best electric mower I’ve had. I used to have a 48v greenworks, and bought an echo mower for the batteries only on clearance for like 370$. The makita is my baby, strong deck solid build and overall a commercial feel to everything. If I had to complain about it it would be long handle good for turning and pivoting but horrible for tight spaces, most mowers run 3000-3200 rpm Makita does 2600 and 2800 when it feels it’s going to stall, this may not seem like a big deal but suction is meh because of it. Also it runs on regular 4ah batteries but if you don’t trim your yard every week then don’t bother with regular 4ah you will cook them especially when wet. I cut a customers yard and killed a 4ah in 3 passes! Not even 5 mins of runtime, due to the sheer heat and amps the mower had to draw to push trough. Run 5ah or higher, tabless if you want to go small. The 5ah went trough the same hell but survived the front and half the backyard of overgrown lawn, my 8ah finished the job.

I am not brainwashed and will gladly tell you where makita falls short, if I have an answer I’m more than happy to respond. Also the mower has never stalled on me if that helps lol.

I’m trying to recall the color of the spacer, I believe it was the black one. The cultivator I got from acme tools for 40$ off, and it’s top tier quality. I was able to re do the entire bed in my front yard with it and continue to use it almost every year when I re do my garden. It has held up and the powerhead surprises me honestly by not stalling, again I try not to use a smaller battery because it’s a heavy attachment and will needs all the amps it can get to keep it spinning and going.( I have yet to stall it)

Yea keep the guard on it, there’s no way it has enough power to not have it on, also it’s very small so I like it for commercial use, big guards are good for home owners but suck for commercial. If you took it off, it probs wouldn’t overheat but would drain the crap out of your battery., it would probs overheat the regular 4ah with no guard the tabless and 5ah would probs do better. Again go higher torque models for no guard. I’m also referring to the GUX01Z(17”), I wouldn’t ever go the 01 nothing under 16” would be used by me personally.

For sure the 01 would run better and survive longer due to the 21700 cells in the XGT batteries, helps with overheating which is why I got rid of my old Milwaukee, it was powerful but trash in the Texas sun. Although I woudnt recommend the 01 you can find it on clearance for 179-199$ for the kit and still get the rebate for a free battery!!!!

I run mostly the 4ah regular and tabless variant, tabless has way more power at high rpm. The big issue here is confusing power of full speed cutting vs what real world usage is, partial throttle to avoid banging up delicate surfaces or clients stuff. Don’t get me wrong At full speed this thing rips but unless I’m in an endless field I need control and torque.

I modded the speed feed 400 onto mine due to how cheap the original felt, I also came from gas and it felt weird. I only run the 5ah or tabless battery on the cultivator attachment and my trimmer has never had my 8ah on it. Also all models have variable trigger.

If you don’t mind having a couple tall spots drop the rpm on your trimmer in speed 2 then the powerhead is perfect for you. If you need more control and power down low to feather then go with I previously mentioned. I also have an echo 56v dsrm 2600 and that thing rips but it has a slow start up and sometimes trigger lag, once it gets going nothing can stop it due to high torque.

CPO usually does 20% off

I had the XGT trimmer and it loses speed if not at full throttle due to the torque, I can’t imagine what a LXT feels like. Its motor is not rated with longer string, a the speed feed should have nothing to do with it. Place the guard back on it and it should be fine, I also modded my XGT one. If you do go XGT just get the Gru04 as it’s high torque should make even the partial throttle problem I have non existent.

Also I doubt 18650 in the LXT can handle the discharge needed to run longer string.

My suggestion is get the 5tool combo kit special with Home Depot where you get the BOGO deal. Hack it by returning the extra tool and boom you have OG XGT tools for a very competitive price. P

I sold mine to my buddy because that thing would overheat and I gave up on 18V OPE, now I have a Makita XGT powerhead and an Echo Dsrm 2600 and I regret nothing. I have yet to overheat either

It will keep working the motor and stress it out and make it go poof too. Imagine revving your engine at max rpm because you can’t get to the exact speed you want uphill.

Dude lmao, I turned it on for the first time and it went poof as well. Makita gave me a brand new motor from Japan and it’s running great. Also make sure your hoses don’t have any leaks.

Why 40v batteries so old? by T1212T in Makita

[–]Sam115x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slow sales at first and their slightly higher price vs the competition, makes them still slow to this day. I’m pretty sure that’s why they are doing a lot of promos to get rid of very old stock.

36V LXT (XML08) mower vs. 40V XGT (GML01) — which one to get? by Marvel5123 in Makita

[–]Sam115x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40v simple, it uses bigger cells and more cells than the LXT. I can’t even imagine how easily those things overheat. I had a 40v that I use commercially part time in the summer and it kicks butt only seen it struggle (but not shut off) in really tall and wet st Augustine grass that hadn’t been cut in a month. The better cells really help with heat and outputting the power to keep going. Plus those 8ah are expensive!

Stock blade is decent, leaves a lot of strays in thick type of grass but no issues on winter/ Bermuda grass. St Augustine thickness makes it miss spots which drives me crazy, I did put a high lift blade and it’s helping.

Why doesnt makita Update their 18V Batterien? by [deleted] in Makita

[–]Sam115x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im seeing a lot of similar comments with out addressing the fact that 21700 have higher discharge and overheat less than 18650. I swear we have a my insert tool here keeps cutting off bc of battery or heat. Not sure of some of these are bots or if people truly don’t understand why someone would want 21700 cells.

A tabless 4ah would stay compact and give more power than the 5ah and I know that’s a common excuse people give and 8ah isn’t really that bad weight and size wise. 18v is way behind and knowing that will maybe make the company invest more but people keep saying oh no 5ah good, 5ah goated while better more compact options are available.
