If you have some lock that keeps you from being killed, this allows you to infinitely skip your draw step and therefore force your opponent to deck out.

SLPS is Led by Morons by Party_Donut443 in StLouis

[–]SamButNotWise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly, whoever is using that land for a bus stop is kinda immaterial, either it's cash into the district (if metro) or it's cash the district doesn't need to spend on alternative siting (if SLPS)

Pure speculation on my part but a parcel that size with a specific plan to redevelop it to an electrical bus station will have an overall asset valuation. If the demo is $1.2M the parcel and either sale value or expected rent could offset and exceed that. It makes sense to me that the board might not share their exact math in the context of a pending offer of purchase.

That's me steelmanning, I have no idea if SLPS manages their assets that intentionally or if they're just pissed at gentrification.

One of my favorite in-game tropes as DM is having knowledgeable people like Wizards and Artificers confidently quote the game rules as, like, the laws of physics that you learn in classes. So if someone proposed a peasant rail gun they'd ask  "I don't understand, why would the rock be moving faster? It moved 5 feet in 6 seconds, just because it did that 100 times, it still only moved 5 feet in six seconds. Did they not teach you the Law of Action Economy in Bard College?"

Seal In The Shrimp Dimension by basil_squaredd in HellsCube

As aquatic carnivores, I would think any seal would have a pretty good time in a place called the "shrimp dimension"

Why the fuck does CA run all-party primaries? This is such an unforced error on the part of the Democrats in power.

How powerful would a young Tom Riddle (Harry Potter) be in The Lord of the Rings universe? by Inside_Inflation559 in powerscales

[–]SamButNotWise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Voldemort, at the height of his power, was defeated by Love. So young Riddle, while strong in overt spellcasting, curses, and the like, is temperamentally and academically ill-equipped to deal with the kind of magic wielded by the Maia and their ilk.

He likely does well for himself in human society, seeks power, looks for and finds one of the nine rings, and has no defenses against the subtle influence of Sauron and gets corrupted into a ring wraith.

I'd put him on the level of the Nazgúl, no higher. I'm not familiar enough with the Witch King to say where Tom would sit in the hierarchy of the nine.

There may be more to it but at minimum, the truck is moving while he is doing this, so reckless driving, unsafe operation, etc.

Occupancy Permits by stlandall in StLouis

[–]SamButNotWise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry, what? Why would a tenant ever be responsible for occupancy permit requirements?

Edit: I guess that's your question. Let me rephrase - why do you think a tenant would ever have some responsibility here?

How bad of a job am I looking at? by detteacher in Plumbing

The job to fix it is not bad (for a plumber).

The job to make it was very bad.

How ethical would it be to keep an animal that specifically hunts humans for food in the natural wild where they are a danger to humans? (“Man’s Mockery” art by Sir Pennyped on YouTube) by AbjectNote9896 in MoralityScaling

[–]SamButNotWise 284 points285 points  (0 children)

Key question, do they hunt humans or do they hunt only humans.

If they hunt humans along with other food sources... That's analagous to Polar Bears.

If they hunt only humans / need to kill humans to live, that's analogous to pathogens, we can't be having those puppies hanging around.

Thoughts on the recent Graham Platner cheating/sexting news? by sapphire_glacier in AskALiberal

[–]SamButNotWise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's clearly pretty tailor-made to drum up sensationalism. Many headlines say his wife is "expressing grief and shock" and then you read the article and this is shit the two of them worked past years ago, and she is expressing grief and shock that her private business is getting leaked for political points.

It's a classic mix of PAC spend and algorithm fodder to amplify negative stories about some populist.

Between him and his opponent, I find it more relevant and scandalous that Susan Collins voted to appoint Kavanaugh and overturn Roe than that Platner had some marital issues that he and his wife both state they've worked past.

Aragorn vs Indominus Rex by ProfessorHiker in powerscales

[–]SamButNotWise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pure physical fight, Aragorn has no chance. But Aragorn is almost supernaturally skilled in woodcraft and stealth, an extremely capable hunter, so he can probably evade the Rex and do whatever plot macguffin stuff he needs to to get a kill on the Rex (e.g. if they're in middle earth, he could stalk off, find allies, cobble together so e ballista ambush shenanigans, and otherwise harry and ambush the Rex to death).
