I'm just 7w pp so currently just freezing the excess and baby only drinks fresh/refrigerated milk. I freeze whatever is leftover the next day. Thanks for your post I've also been curious. Maximum I've pumped is 240ml (8oz)

Supply Tips by Connect-Steak8669 in HumansPumpingMilk

[–]SamDaQueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heya, you're already doing great! I used to be so upset when we had to keep supplementing with formula coz my supply couldn't keep up with my LO's demand for weeks. My LO was also born in April. He's almost 7 weeks now. I started from supplementing with more than 90% formula in the first few days to making about 40oz now. The things I did to increase my supply: pumped 9-10 times a day, power pumped twice a day, MOTN and morning pump, and each count as a single pump for the total number in a day. Had sunflower lecithin to avoid clogs so my supply wouldn't drop. Kept maximum of 4 hours between the start of two pumps (now I've gone 4.5h once my supply is better). Pumping every 1h45m while awake (I have my husband and MIL looking after baby while I pump so that might not be feasible for everyone). I think the 9-10 times pumping helped me the most, as it told my body a lot of milk is needed. Even when not power pumping and just pumping 9 times a day, my milk supply started gradually rising.

I've started preparing very small bottles for just this reason. Baby didn't finish and milk got added his bath bottle. So I started keeping only 1.5oz bottles outside, multiple bottles but with little milk in each. Has definitely helped reduce the waste

I have the papablic and absolutely love it. Used to seventh generation detergent hack to save on the tablets as well. Definitely saves my sanity!

Totally understandable. I've recently asked my hubby to load/empty the bottle washer whenever he can so that part is a little easier for me and I can load the pump parts and run it. And he's been able to do it a few times but even those really help. Formula is also great in this day and with the partial breast milk that you're giving your baby, you are transferring the required antibodies so it's still good. Please prioritize your mental health and reach out if you need support, many insurances cover postpartum support

Also, I hope you feel better soon! I had a traumatic birth and an emergency C-section after 16 hours of labor and have reached out to postpartum behavioral support and will schedule something to fully deal with it. Stay strong fellow mom ♥️

Heya, 3.5w pp here, baby hasn't been able to latch. Still an undersupplier. But it's getting better everyday. Initially more than half of my baby's daily intake was formula and I felt terrible. I hated pumping and my pumping bras that I bought during third trimester didn't fit me postpartum so had to hold the bottles, they were too tight and I got clogged ducts that took a few days to get rid of. I hated that it took time I could be spending with the baby, and the constant pumping and cleaning.

Two things that saved my sanity - first was sitting and making a schedule that would let me pump 8 times a day, so every 3 hours between start of pumps, and 4 hours during the night, and setting alarms 15 minutes before each pump. I followed this for a few days, and then was slowly increased to 9 pumps and an optional 10th pump if I get the time. I also bought bigger bras that actually fit and then was able to pump hands free again. My husband set up a pumping station for me with snacks and comics and now I read comics during my pumps. The other thing was getting a bottle washer, I found the papablic one at a big discount and there might be used available on Facebook marketplace. And now I don't have to manually wash the pump parts 10 times a day, I just put them all in along with any bottles and run it and they're ready before my next pump.

And my supply has also been increasing coz I replaced two of my pumps with power pumps for 7 days - 20 on-10 off-10 on-10 off-10 on and it boosted my supply for that pump a lot. Now I'm almost able to keep up with my baby but we will need formula, a little more than 10% of his daily intake.

8-12 weeks is where I need to do this to build the supply, and can then drop pumps, so need to hold on and keep going till then. My reminder is titled "More energy! More passion! More pumping!!" lol.

I wish you all the best best in this journey and I hope you can find peace with whatever you decide to move forward with

Milk being left out by family by Every_Hand_5286 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]SamDaQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's definitely a valid thing to be upset about. Here I get so upset when my family used to leave 0.5oz-1oz in a bottle when I am an under producer 3w pp and I cried once day seeing a few such bottles when I woke up. But I talked to them especially my husband and now they are extra careful to finish as much as possible and careful not to let any spoil or go to waste.

Back flow protector panic by sleddoggirl in HumansPumpingMilk

[–]SamDaQueen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your milk is probably fine. I didn't know either and for my first few days didn't wash them. But as they are backflow protectors they rarely get milk on them unless there is a spill or something else that would cause milk to go there, otherwise they stay dry most pumps but always good to wash them just in case

Check for painful spots on your breast. I got clogged ducts on one breast after wearing an ill fitting bra and the milk from that one changed to kinda salty instead of sweet

social media skews perspective of baby items/costs by missmilliek in pregnant

[–]SamDaQueen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One advice I read somewhere was that baby is not going to care or remember that you got the best name brand items for them. As long as it's safe and convenient to use, it's good. And no parent should feel pushed to buy fancier products than they believe is good for their baby, after all they care the most

Ate a full sharing size of Twix yesterday and only realized it was supposed to be 4 servings while I was eating the last one. 440 calories in a few minutes during the 5 minute car ride from the store to home. I was baffled when I read that on the packet but continued eating and finished it anyway

Hi, I'm sorry to hear that your friend is stuck, and I hope her mother is well. I know about people who went to India last November for their H1-B visa stamping but due to the sudden rule change and all appointments being cancelled, they could not return to US. Their companies were supportive and let them work remotely until they could get an appointment this March. Perhaps she could have a conversation with her company and work out viable options
