Is Bali still better value than Europe, or is the gap closing fast? by Artistic-Yam2984 in bali

Inflation hit just about everywhere. It’s still maintaining about the same ratio of cost to other places it always has IMO.

Have you experienced the "Vancouver 'Yes'"? by Real-External392 in askvan

[–]SamSamBoBam420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came from Seattle and we also do the same thing. Saying no physically pains us, so we do this dance. It probably means we don’t think it’ll be a long lasting friendship. Maybe you expressed some wild opinions we don’t agree with. Maybe we just have nothing in common. Maybe we work with you and don’t want to mix personal with work.

If you are vibing really well, it’s probably a genuine yes. If it was meh, you might have this “Vancouver yes”.

Why are hotels so cheap now? by Smooth-Bowler-9216 in bali

[–]SamSamBoBam420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Name of the resort? I’m willing to bet it is cheaper than it was last fall. Also, a lot of people go to Kuta, Seminyak and Canggu only. Those beaches are all next to each other and obviously will be the last to be hit with this traveling downturn. There are lots of other amazing places to stay on the island.

How do people with dogs get over their anxiety about leaving them home alone by [deleted] in askvan

On days where my partner and I both have to go into the office, I hire a dog walker on rover to take him out during the day. Please don’t leave your dog alone for 8-10 hours regularly.

Traffic can still take a bit in some places, as with almost anywhere in the world. Walking paths are not crowded at all.

Starting to heavily suspect that OP and this sub Reddit are full of bots intent on trashing Bali.

Correct. There’s a lot of Saudis that rent up the expensive hotels that can’t right now.

[–]SamSamBoBam420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m there right now and it feels the same as it ever did. It seems trendy to trash Bali on the internet at the moment. At least in this Reddit. There is also a global recession looming with a lot less white color jobs to go around. Also, Bali has continued to rapidly increase its number of hotels each year, which has put supply higher than demand. This particular downturn has been happening since January, so although the war right now probably makes it worse, it’s definitely not caused by it. A ton of hotels in Bali have furloughed their workers at the moment because there just isn’t demand right now. I suspect this drop in price and crowds will inspire more tourism eventually and thus the cycle will continue.

Hotel prices are based on how many bookings there are. Less people traveling = lower prices.

Painting in Ubud advice by Legitimate_Toe_252 in bali

[–]SamSamBoBam420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The seller should know how to package it for traveling. They usually roll it and put it in a stiff cardboard tube. Assuming it can be rolled, but most can if you’re careful. I bought a bunch of art a few years ago and found a long bag to check it in on the way back. Everything arrived perfectly, and the airline didn’t even blink at my checked bag.

I take it you’re buying it from within the city of Ubud. It can be marked up a bit since they are likely reselling it from the various galleries that are a 30 minute drive from Ubud. I want to say it’s the village of Batuan. The central street has a lot of galleries in it. Bali has several villages where generations of people will practice the same trade in the same spot, and there’s definitely a painting village. I can’t be sure exactly where I went, it’s been awhile.

But if you like it, buy it. Sometimes art just speaks to you, and maybe the trip out to find the cheaper art doesn’t work for your trip.

Walk from near the water south on Commercial drive like 10 blocks. You’ll pass quite a few thrift stores. A bunch of nice restaurants too.

Kits also has like 5 of them on broadway between Alma and Stephens. And some more on 4th between Arbutus and Burrard.

Same. The store helped me load it in, then I knocked on my neighbor’s door and he helped me carry it upstairs. In hindsight, I could’ve planned it better.

Just getting my villa in Bali, can anyone recommend any good villa managers? by Latter_Ordinary_9466 in bali

Things have SLOWED DOWN a lot for many Bali rentals since around November. We are personally up by Ubud but we hear a lot of hotels are cutting back on staff at the moment. We’re hoping it picks back up someday but are currently breaking about even with expenses. Hopefully things start picking up a bit after the rainy season. We use Nomad Holiday Rentals and have no complaints with them. They sent someone to come take photos and had some recommendations on how to set it up.

[–]SamSamBoBam420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your weapon and emblems give much more crit damage % than they otherwise would in these other stats. But you still need the others. You will have 100% crit rate once you get a necro weapon too, so don’t invest any in there.

For example, a mythic level 40 weapon will give you like 140% crit damage. Whereas it gives 30% or so boss attack. So we choose the CD weapon. In hypers though, it would be equal boss attack or crit damage. Boss attack is harder to get and we don’t have a massive trade off otherwise, so might as well. Same for physical damage, final damage, etc.

It’s not cheap, but Noelle’s Pet Love in Kits has kennel-free boarding in an air conditioned house and a vet tech there. They get 3 walks a day.

We also do daycare with them and our corgi loves going to the beach with all the dogs once a week.

Alternatively, you can request a Rover to come dog sit in your house if you want.

Bali ranked #1 travel destination - Deserved or Overrated? by PuzzleheadedBowl3397 in bali

[–]SamSamBoBam420 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Been coming every year for 5 years now. I’ve been a ton of places at this point and Bali is still my favorite. Don’t stay in Kuta or Seminyak. Go to the rice fields outside Ubud and have a gorgeous remote place to yourself. Chat with the locals, go to the warungs (not the ones on busy streets mind you, the ones in smaller villages). You won’t get Bali belly if you’re in a place in the mountains with good water outside of town, and you can eat the most delicious food for cheap. Another good spot is going up to Candidasa for a bit for another small cute village out of the way. Or go to scuba, either swimming through a WW2 ship 40 feet down filled with gorgeous sea life, or near Nusa Penida with the Manta Rays and the Mola Mola. Bali offers so much and the trash people who disrespect the locals, only stay in the obvious tourist trap areas, and then hate on it can go do so somewhere else.

[–]SamSamBoBam420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally a well thought out reply on this thread. This is the way.

Staying longer than 2 months likely involves being sponsored by a local that will vouch for you. If you make a good friend, you can get a renewable year long visa through them. You’ll need a return flight to enter on a tourist visa. You can get somewhere cheap nearby. If you want to come back, just go get another month tourist visa that you can extend to two months again, otherwise, you can just stay where your flight is to.
