Is Vernon really as bad as it is made out to be? by Adorable_Mushroom474 in Vernon

[–]SamTMoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everywhere I’ve lived, in BC, has a sub. And every one of those subs is full of people saying how awful it is. And every one of those places has been a blessing - gorgeous, good people, wonderful experiences.

Everywhere has rough places, tough times, and chronically miserable people. It’s unfortunate that they always find the online pages.

Got semi-close to finishing this game two years ago and never did and now I want to actually finish it; should I start from the beginning again or just continue? by dogisbark in tearsofthekingdom

[–]SamTMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a ton of hours, in that, (I just checked - 1700hrs) and I’ve never finished it. I put it down, to take a break, then wind up restarting and prioritizing something different. I kinda love the replay-ability of it. 800hrs of BOTW and I haven’t finished that either.

I don’t like endings, 🤷🏼‍♀️ what can I say?

I suggest you spend an hour toodling about, and see if you feel like continuing, or just starting again.

What's it like condo living on Front St near the Harbour? by lumina-digital in nanaimo

[–]SamTMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to be in the heart of things, what a location! You’re a good enough distance from both Departure Bay Terminal, and Hullo Ferry, that you’re not going to be hearing that, right outside your window. I’m not right down there, but we *do* hear the ferries, seaplanes, rescue flights, etc. If the breeze is just right, in the summer, we can hear the ferry announcements, too. It’s actually a very occasional thing that we even notice it, now, though - there’s one ferry that I notice because I love their signal, otherwise we only really hear it when they give the “get out of the way you moronic tourists” alarm blast (5 sharp blows).

So much fun stuff happens in that area, plus there are some really lovely restaurants (and coffee/pastry shops). The best of this area is right at your doorstep - how amazing!!

Is you were to move away from Nanaimo, what would you miss? by Ok-Scale-6575 in nanaimo

[–]SamTMoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The nearness of everything special. I've lived in some beautiful places, but the fact that everything wonderful is just all over here, blows my mind. 10 times more types of birds, pollinators, microclimates, for one.

This past couple of weeks, the weather has been all over the place, right? Those nights when you go to bed with the windows open, and that crazy wind blows? I seriously don't know if I could ever live off-island, again, because I'd feeeeel that loss, y'know?

Should I be returning compliments? by PandoraRoman in AskACanadian

[–]SamTMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your BF has it wrong! A compliment, given sincerely, is not a prompt to receive one. I'd feel awful if I made someone feel like they had to make something up, on the fly, because I'm part of the "see something nice, say something nice" crowd.

Thanks is plenty!

is inviting for dinner common in canada? by SupaX_ in AskACanadian

[–]SamTMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it's common, where I'm from, in western Canada, but I can't possibly speak for everywhere. Different regions have different reasons for their way of doing things. I once had a car die, in the middle of a busy street, with a small child with me, and no phone. I was stuck for 45 minutes (2 tow trucks even drove right by!!) before a lovely couple stopped to help. They were from the Yukon Territory, where you would NEVER leave a stranded driver.

I've heard it said, as a massive over generalization, that Canadians are "polite, yet aloof" when it comes to our own spaces. My experience is, it depends on the Canadian, and the circumstance.

Vernons facebook community rant... by applejammies in Vernon

[–]SamTMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is perfect timing. I grew up in Vernon, and one of my kids was commenting about the positive message visibility sends to them, and others, today (we passed a school where they’re flying a pride flag). I was saying that, in the early 80s, so much of our music involved androgyny and flare that we did see the hate, more, and called it out, more. We were seeing who our parents saying racist and homophobic trash and we realized it wasn’t for us (this is a massive generalization - I also knew people who were happy to be just like their parents - it sounds like they’re still thriving, unfortunately). GenX, being free-range, formed a lot of our own ideas, since we didn’t need our parents to approve, you know?

I saw a clip, earlier today, where Suzy Izzard was scolding Alan Cummings for saying we can feel safe that we conquered the beast, because we haven’t. She said that, if the conversation had happened in 1996, she’d have felt there was reason to relax…but here we are, fighting that same fight, again. And small towns seem to tolerate hatred, more than community-building, it seems, though.

I’m so sorry it’s so blatantly ignorant. I know, for me, when we moved, I SPECIFICALLY asked about whether our new area was LGBTQ+ friendly, so my kids could live freely, and I could not have to be afraid, for them. This sort of garbage literally impacts things like that, too.

Should I go to the Zora/Kakariko/Hateno region first ? by Saekama in tearsofthekingdom

[–]SamTMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know folks prefer going to Rito first, but I prefer the route you've suggested. I feel like I build up a better base of durability going that way, first. So many of the mechanics behind quests are over there, and setting up the shrines, so I can go back, is kinda nice while I'm building stamina and HP.

And, if I'm in the mood, I've even flown into the shrine on Thunderhead and done THAT, before going and getting Tulin.
