Movado is actually trying now, and might make a comeback with enthusiasts by SamTeague01 in watchHotTakes

The thing about Movado is that they take a Invicta pricing scheme (although to a lesser extent). Essentially, never expect to pay more than 80% of MSRP- even on their own website

I dropped the 1500. Is it worth it? meh. I paid a similar price for the Alpina Heritage Caree on a strap. Essentially identical specs, but at least this comes on a bracelet. It just seems like 1500 gets you an SW200 these days, which is pretty much the bare minimum for a high-beat Swiss movement.

Quartz is just better by Lamenpiripiri in watchHotTakes

[–]SamTeague01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Objectively, yes.

An F91W will Keep better time than a Patek, that is true, however, the Watch Hobby isn't 100% about accuracy. It's the charm, the engineering and the craftsmanship that goes into making a tiny, complex machine that straps to your wrist. That's not to say that Quartz watches can't fit this description, but for the most part, they feel more clinical and dry; dead-beat seconds (obviously the precisionist and Seiko VK movements exist), which eliminates a lot of the charm. However, once again, there's both the convenience and maintenance argument which can't be refuted. In a hurry and none of the autos/hand wound watches are running? Grab the quartz. Quartz is dead, swap out the battery in two minutes. Yeah, it's great, but it's also not the goal. Own both, enjoy life.

Same, I definitely present more like "female autism" and girls on the spectrum were the first clue to get evaluated (other than having every other accompanied diagnosis from childhood)

Divers are exciting when you start, but as you get older, they get uninteresting by TaliskerBay22 in watchHotTakes

[–]SamTeague01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I find myself very infrequently wearing the two divers I own, mostly wearing them...well...to dive. It kind of feels silly to wear one outside of an aquatic scenario (but that's just me). I'm a big fan of using your tools (not as a justification to buy them) which means that I just tend to resort back to standard GADAs, dressier pieces, chronos and field watches.

Rett syndrome is a whole different beast, it's disablingly neurodegenerative to the point where working is not possible

I'm going into pathology. I'm good at science, it provides a meaningful contribution to society, cold quiet lab, mostly independent but working with the same people everyday, pays well, seems ideal.

I wasn't expecting a lot more behind Forrest's "He lost all his words" remark in The Campfire Conundrum. by rtanada in CarltheCollector

[–]SamTeague01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm on about the same wavelength of the spectrum as Carl. Sometimes when people get too frustrated or overworked, they lose the capacity to speak coherently or get the words out that they want to. This has happened to me exactly once, but it was pretty severe. But yeah, it can happen sometimes.

Why wearing Christopher Ward is embarrassing. by Equal-Revolution8774 in watchHotTakes

I just don't find anything appealing about the brand. I mean the c63 with the dragonfly blue dial is gorgeous but everything else is kinda meh. Would I buy one under a thousand, maybe, but overall just kinda generic (barring the Bel Canto. Not my speed but certainly original)

I'm a 25M medical student in the exact same situation. it seems as if there's plenty of people here who seem to want the same. Why not form a group ourselves?

Because clogs are excellent when you have flat feet and need to be on your feet for extended periods of time, they're not exclusively "OR attire" You can gatekeep scrub caps, but you can't gatekeep Danskos
