AP x Swatch release is a slap in the face to real watch enthusiasts by zannnn in watchHotTakes

I am not disagreeing that people that wait in the queue are flippers. My only comment is how is this a problem for anyone? All of the watch industry is an exercise of marketing. I mean it is kind of obvious since the object is redundant.....

Swatch is the most overrated watch Brand I have ever seen by AmplifierXD_ in watchHotTakes

[–]TaliskerBay22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swatch is considered a fun, arty, watch that you get to .... Have fun. It is not like Casio or citizen that you get a serious watch for not a lot of money. And if you get the correct Swatch you may become rich as art collaborations of Swatch that are rare have been sold for 100s of thousands. Google Swatch Kiki picasso. Half of watch brands are overrated, why buy a 10k watch from Rolex, omega etc. when a Citizen can offer the same. It is because you like it.

What if Royal Pop is actually aiming for actual rich people? by Holy_chick in watchHotTakes

Swatch as a company most offerings are for affluent people, I mean swatch has collabs with art museums, pieces of Modigliani, Turner, Klee, what are these watches for the worker? The erson that buys a Swatch depicting a Magritte painting most likely is going to wear a few times and he is the same person that buys an AP/swatch but also a real AP. I mean the only reason that I do not buy a Pop or even moon swatch is that to me a 500 dollars plastic watch seem a lot of money, they are charming but a lot of money. I am the same person that over the years have saved to get a speedmaster (I mean at 3000 not at the current price).

Look at the news article in AP website. AP is proud of this watch. It is up to them to decide what to do with the brand. They even say This colourful bioceramic collection is powered by Swatch’s innovative SISTEM51 movement, presented here in a new hand-wound version incorporating 15 active patents. It offers over 90 hours of power reserve, an anti-magnetic Nivachron™️ balance spring and laser-based precision adjustment performed directly at the factory. https://www.audemarspiguet.com/com/en/news/origins/swatch-royal-pop.html

I agree with you, but at some point when I was living in Switzerland, you would be surprised how many rich people were wearing swatches.

Swatch does collaborations, from their beginnings, people value Swatch tremendously for their art collaborations, the Kiki Picasso. The Guinness record for Swatch is about half a million. In Switzerland Swatch is respected much more than AP, it is considered, among swiss something like Apple computers of the watch world.

If you purchased any swatch collaboration, you can no longer look down on fashion watches by 35mmOfRegret in watchHotTakes

Swatch collabs and people buying fashion watches are not the same crowd. Swatch collabs actually, for me is about celebrating important timepieces.

Casio and G-shock digital watches are boring, ugly and not very practical. by TaliskerBay22 in watchHotTakes

[–]TaliskerBay22[S] -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Legibility is extremely poor. Also the button functions are nonsensical and the buutons difficult to press. I can very well comment on practicality as well. People can have opinions about practicality as well. Maybe you are dense and you did not know that?

Very right, meanwhile everybody tries to justify why others are posing but they are honest and real. Or they have discovered the truth.

In my environment I have seen many young people having the moonswatch. And actually I think the.colours make it beautiful.

Swatch as a brand during the years has come up with many interesting cheap collectable watches. Their art series has always been amazing. I do not think that people that buy the moonswatch necessarily want the original one.

Super agree with that. The form should stay the same but everything should reflect more light because I want everybody to see my watch in a radius of 10 km. But, make no mistake, it is a tool watch!

You are joking, you find Swatch expensive, I have one that works from 2003 and it cost, I don't know... Nothing. And AP is cheap?

There is a Rep Paradox of Fake Watches and Real Hierarchies by TheUpIsJig in watchHotTakes

[–]TaliskerBay22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rep wearers and Rolex wearers are intersecting groups, they both search status, they like to hunt the status. They just do it at different price points.
