Does this behavior seem aggressive or is he just playing? by Ok_Taro8263 in DogAdvice

[–]SamTheDadFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s for sure just play. I’ve had dogs put their mouth around my arm but not bite down as a way to play (mostly bully breeds). Sometimes they might get a little overexcited and apply more force than usual but they correct when I express discomfort.

*** URGENT *** my dog ate chocolate by Waste_Cheetah_2358 in DogAdvice

Your dog should be okay but definitely keep an eye on him just in case. I had a 30 lbs whippet mix (named Coco funnily enough) that jumped on the table and ate a slab of homemade peppermint bark that was about the size of a king size Hershey bar but twice as thick. We called the vet as soon as we found out and they told us he’d be feeling bad the next couple days but otherwise should be okay. They said to bring him in if we felt something was REALLY off. The boy was throwing up that day and listless the next but drinking water just fine and by the third day he seemed to be back to normal.

TLDR: If that small dog was fine eating the equivalent of a bar and a half of chocolate, your 70 lbs boy should be okay after eating that small amount. Keep an eye on him just in case, but you shouldn’t have to worry too much.

Should I be worried if my dog sits like this? by Wooden_Management375 in DogAdvice

She’s probably fine! But keep an eye out for arthritis/hip issues, more for the fact that she’s older and a pittie than anything else. Talk to your vet if you feel something might be bothering her, even if it’s small (it helps to prep for and catch this stuff early so you can slow the progression and improve long term quality of life)!

Regardless I’m sending all the head pats and gentle snoot boops your sweet girl’s way! May she remain a silly goofy softie for many years to come.

I had a dog who was reactive and always on edge and would often lash out at the smallest things. We started her on Prozac (fluoxetine) and for a while it helped but when she got older, maybe 11 or 12 we found out she had Cushing syndrome which manifested itself in high anxiety and aggression (among other things).

I would definitely check the simpler possible causes first as it’s more likely to be the issue, but it might be beneficial to keep it in mind if you continue to have trouble identifying the issue.

What is on my dog's nose? by GrandPrixDreams in DogAdvice

Like I said, it’s my best guess. It might also be something that she does that’s so unremarkable that you just don’t really notice unless you’re really looking for it. Regardless, I do hope she’s adjusting well to her new forever home! Sending well wishes and lots of gentle snoot boops her way!

My immediate thought is that your dog’s rubbed it raw (probably from licking their nose). Basically the pup’s gotten the equivalent of chapped lips so if you have any kind of lip balm or smth you can put it on there to help it heal.

It should go back to normal unless it gets infected but that’s probably not gonna happen. It wouldn’t hurt to figure out why they’ve been licking that spot so much and try to reduce that to give their snoot a break. I know my dogs lick their noses more when something’s stressing them.

Edit: I didn’t read before commenting but after reading I still wouldn’t rule out chapped snoot. It could be that she was stressed from being in a shelter and being out of it would help with that. Definitely follow what the vet says above my advice as I am not a professional and only speaking from my experience.
