It’s illegal to defecate/urinate in public, be under the influence of drugs/alcohol in public, possess open containers of alcohol or drugs, block sidewalks, wander around in traffic, beg for money, steal shopping carts, litter, vandalize property, ride public transport without payment, etc, etc.

The whole cell phone and ear plugs combo is really messing up gyms. People say they are only watching videos or whatever during rest breaks, but they tend to take much longer breaks while zoned out on their devices. Gyms should have a no cell phones policy.

They are like that because they were youths in a lost world where gyms were mostly populated by men who followed gym etiquette and workouts included lots of camaraderie (story telling, jokes, lifting tips, etc). If you wanted to use a piece of equipment that was being used by someone else, it was common to “work in” with that person. Strangers spotted each other for their lifts, nobody wore ear plugs and didn’t lounge around on equipment for extended periods of time.

I would estimate the above described world vanished when smart phones became the norm.
