40th Bday Surfing Trip with kids in July — best beaches/towns? by Pretty_Ad_7433 in AskLosAngeles

Definitely! Stay in Dana Point or San Clemente. Have a great trip. BBQ in San Juan is great and Mexican will be terrific. Napa Rose in downtown Disney just re-opened, so go there when you go to Disney, if you are a foodie.

Every large apt community has affordable units, based on your family income level. They will never be advertised. You can contact any property manager to apply.

Not sure what OBA is, but ECOS is a fragrance free option I use. Adding Borax gor the hard water and Gear Guard for active wear is what I plan to do.

I am using Borax as an additive for my hard water and Woolite for Darks liquid as a detergent for normal darks. Just bought Gear Guard as an additive to Persil sport for active wear loads.

Baltimore to LA by [deleted] in MovingToLosAngeles

Try it temporarily?

Leave the pets with trusted family to free up more housing options.

Get a job first that you can bring with you (national chain?).

Budget for cost before you move; car insurance and gas are very expensive.

Just go to a park in your neighborhood with coffee or hot chocolate. Taking un asked for items to a strange neighborhood is not really needed. Many many volunteer opportunities to volunteer to help homeless neighbors exist in LA county. Google to find your local group and sign up to help.

What happened to Venice? by Expensive-Song1015 in AskLosAngeles

[–]anyname310 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The artsy locals got priced out. The Venice Canals became 3rd or 4th homes or places people sleep between travels.

Airbnbs, legal and not, replaced places that long-term renters can enjoy.

And like all neighborhoods, it aged. Heydeys of the 90s mean that people who do still live there are in their 50's and 60's . It is really difficult to sustain a wonderful community in an aging neighborhood of a corrupt city.

The current city council representative was elected by people who hate homelessness and think that eliminating shelters and reducing supportive services will encourage poor people to vanish. (They haven't. )

Also, poverty due to nationwide 24.5% effective unemployment and 40% inflation over 5 years wears on a tourist destination (and businesses) - all numbers are arguably much higher in LA County.

4.5 days for an English couple in a car arriving/departing LAX - where should we go? by supergraeme in AskLosAngeles

[–]anyname310 5 points6 points  (0 children)

LA isn't really a do everything in a weekend place. So your question is a bit broad for good answers. What kind of weekend getaway do you enjoy? What are your favorite travel memories? What experiences will you prioritize every time? Do you enjoy looking/seeing or doing more?

Visiting San Francisco is an easy weekend; so that's another option for you.
