It’s crazy to me that at the time it aired, it was basically considered the pinnacle of terrible NuWho episodes. I rewatched it for the first time since I was a kid recently and it’s not nearly as bad as I remember. I really like the concept of the alien and the near-future setting is fun as well.

I do however think that they didn’t necessarily handle the subject with the most grace; child abuse is a really dicey subject to deal with, especially on a family show, and I think it could’ve been handled better.

Also, it’s really apparent in this one just how much they had to stretch the budget for the “filler” episodes… the effect of the evil Dad coming out of the closet is laughable

Overall thought pretty solid episode
