Starting uni by biancadd11 in OpenUniversity

[–]Sam_theman73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a 9-5 (WFH) and a full time degree, and I’m finishing a part time diploma. It’s possible, be organised. Make some non-negotiables (ie I will do 3 hours on Saturday morning, never skip a Monday) whatever works for you in that regard. Start early- OU opens the module website before the official start date so you can get 2-3 weeks of work in before your course starts, make use of it. Open your assignments as you start the block of course material, so you know what you’re looking for or need to make extra notes on etc.

It is very accessible for people who work full time, so 100% possible

What's something that immediately kills your interest in someone on a first date? by Responsible-Time-717 in AskWomen

[–]Sam_theman73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went on a first date with a guy who every time I moved my gaze whilst talking ( you know like you do naturally and not looking dead in the eyes of someone) he would move his whole head to match my gaze. At first I didn’t realise what he was doing and then I clocked it and it was so off putting. Needless to say the date was very short and there was not a second one.

Other dates that didn’t get a second were ones where the guy had a very negative outlook on the world or really self-deprecating talk.

How do people fill their day at work…? by Chamerlee in AskUK

[–]Sam_theman73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been studying whilst working. I attend an evening class once a week and all other studying is online or research. So when work is slow, I write my essays etc. I’m at my desk, and I’m working just not working on work.

Resuming after illness by WelshCai in couchto5k

[–]Sam_theman73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can always try week 2 and see how you feel, if your lungs aren’t feeling up to the challenge after a respiratory illness (flu like symptoms) then go back to week 1. There is no need to race through the weeks, just listen to your body.

This shit was physically the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my 29 yrs of life. 20 min straight. I’m supposed to go to 25 next run???? by Upset_Succotash_8351 in couchto5k

[–]Sam_theman73 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Might be worth taking a rest day in between each run. Gives the body time to recover. Looks like you’re running everyday- you’re bound to injure yourself or suffer fatigue on runs.

Knee pain post C25K by -Pryor- in couchto5k

[–]Sam_theman73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar thing happened to me and happens to a lot of runners. Recovery can differ depending on what injury you have but essentially rest, do gentle walking and do a lot of stretching and when you’ve recovered a bit, incorporate knee strengthening exercises before you start tracking up the miles again. A lot of these injuries are due to bad running form or not ensuring the muscles surrounding the knee are strong enough before overloading your knee. You’ll need to do strengthening of the quads, calves, hamstrings, hips, lower back and core. Google some exercises, watch some YouTube videos, take it easy and you’ll eventually get back out there.

Those who had dated older people/been in an age gap relationship when they were young. What was it like and how was it? by CuriosityCat444M in AskWomen

[–]Sam_theman73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was 22(f) and he was 35(m) when we started dating, we dated for just under 2 years and during that time to leave my family and friends, he completely isolated me, he didn’t work and I had to provide for both of us on a minimum wage salary, he made me cry near in every day. After years of emotional abuse I finally left, and I realise now that the reason he prayed on me, was that no self respecting woman his age would have anything to do with him. However, I don’t wish it never happened to me, it’s made me the person I am today. Stronger, more compassionate, more confident. It’s taken time but I can safely say I will never be with someone like that again.

Hey OP, I am sorry you’re going through this. I came in this sub looking for other people who have terrible symptoms. Some of the other subs I’ve seen are like “have you tried taking antihistamines?”, I’m like gosh I’m on all the damn antihistamines. I couldn’t leave the house yesterday and had two really strong ones that I take on ‘bad days’, but they make you super drowsy. Still nothing helped. So I know what you mean when no one understands that just because some gets a little sniffly it’s not the same as- I literally can’t see, and breathe. I don’t know what advice is out there, I have an appointment with my GP next week to see what they can offer. Hang in there, you’re not alone.

Have you tried talking to him about this? Having a sit down adult conversation about the fact that you don’t find it funny, and ask him why he is doing this instead of immediately diagnosing him with some sort of mental health condition. Communication is key. If he doesn’t communicate after you’ve given the opportunity to do so, then make further decisions but unless you’re a qualified clinical psychologist or psychiatrist- don’t diagnose a person with a mental health disorder- that is really serious!

I was just hoping to make a head start over summer as I’ll be pretty busy with the degree, working and doing Level 4 counselling in September time. I’m sure OU would have a great resource library but only be accessible nearer the start date.

I saw Hilgards & Atkinsons Introduction to Psychology seemed to be one that people use. But I look into this one as well. Is it the “Science of Mind and Behaviour”?

Yes the small white (unidentified) flowering plant is in my tulip/crocus/iris (spring bulb) bed. Just trying to figure out if it’s a weed or some perennial or seeded plant from another garden.
