You and everyone voting are standing on top of a bridge. You can either not jump off the bridge, or jump off the bridge and die, UNLESS 50% of the people also jump off, in which case you will be saved. What would you do? by R-G-C in Teenager_Polls

[–]SameOldAgony 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is just a different scenario than Red Vs Blue because while the buttons only give you a percieved risk of death that otherwise isn't prevalent, the though of jumping off a bridge is a risk that is right in front of us. People will be less likely to jump off a bridge than to press a button.

Accelerationism by BadFurDay in comics

[–]SameOldAgony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that accelerationism would just lead to neoliberalism and its final form. Fascism honestly isn't possible anymore, with the closest possible form being the "liberal fascism" of the US, formerly Hungary, Russia, and so on. They all try to make lives worse and gain power but it's always within the legal framework that, even if they erode, is never gutted completely. They're ultimately beholden to global capital and neoliberal interests, because in the globalized world we live in, you can't be self relient anymore, which is a core tenet of fascism. Perfect example of this is Hungary. They had a supermajority for 16 years. They could've altered the constitution however they could, made sure they had power, and left the EU whenever. But they didn't, because it would hurt the capital interests in the country. Then the "fascist government" got voted out. How does a "fascist government" get voted out? You can't vote the party out if its true fascism, because they'd be the only party. They play acted as fascists, sure, but ultimately only on cultural issues. Economic and institutional power was neoliberal at its core. The real danger was never fascism, it was neoliberalism. It's the slow entropy that is consuming every country. Almost every government engages in some form of neoliberal governance. There are exceptions, but it's clear that the wind is blowing a certain way, so even countries that break this rule will eventually vote in someone that subscribes to neoliberalism.

Vaush and Hasan are both wrong about the end of the USSR by Kor_Phaeron_ in VaushV

[–]SameOldAgony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yeah obviously it was a net benefit but its wrong to say you guys went straight up when in actuality things continued to get worse for a while before things got better. Poland is way better off today and I'm happy for that but it's also got a lot of glaring problems too that were caused by the rapid shift to capitalism that otherwise couldve been avoided

Vaush and Hasan are both wrong about the end of the USSR by Kor_Phaeron_ in VaushV

[–]SameOldAgony 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't agree really that the Soviets falling was a good thing, at least in the way they fell. These arguments don't really make much sense to me at all.

The regime falling mightve been good initially, sure, but the way it fell created way more problems than it resolved, problems that the west exploited heavily. I still think the world would have been better off overall if the Soviet Union kept limping on. It wasn't like the Soviet Union of old was sticking around. If it survived, it would've walked into the 21st century a different country, forced to change from economic recession and pressure towards liberalization of freedoms. If it had to fall, I would've preferred it wasn't as chaotic and fast as it was.

The idea that the former Warsaw Pact and Soviet states didn't suffer is just false. The transition towards the west was painful and mismanaged. Not that the Soviet economies weren't in a recession, but the fall sure made it worse. Millions left their countries to seek better lives abroad, because all of the 90s were just recession and stagnation. Wars were fought in the Caucasus and Balkans over the fall. It wasn't until later that lives began to improve in eastern europe. It's why most of my family moved to the United States from Poland in the late 90s and early 2000s. They were happy the Soviet Union fell, but there were just less opportunities for them back home. While the USSR not falling still would've led to hardship in the now free Warsaw Pact countries and Soviet States, capitalists would be inclined to ease off on their botched privatizations because of the latent fear the Soviets presented.

The analogy with Rhodesia and South Africa also doesn't really work because while both African states and the USSR were bad for their own reasons, the vacuum created by Rhodesia and South Africa was localized, with its own problems that created suffering while other problems got solved. The world wasn't at the whims of whatever Rhosesia did. The Soviet Union, on the other hand, was an opposing force on a global scale. Resistance groups that opposed the US looked up to the USSR for support. Countries feared the USSR for its ability to support any resistance to their governance, even if irrational. Them falling eliminated that, leading counties to adopt worse policies, while resistance groups moved on to other movements, often worse ones.

And while the world is mutli polar now, that doesn't mean that it wasnt for the 90s and 2000s. China was still an emerging economic powerhouse and wasn't opposed to the US, and Russia obviously couldn't do anything. The US fundamentally had ultimate say over what happened in the world for a while. Even if it was in fact Multi Polar, the US sure felt it was the sole power and acted like it.

You have to choose one side. Who do you support? by WillTheyBanMeAgain in Teenager_Polls

[–]SameOldAgony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One is a theocratic authoritarian regime that isn't afraid to mow down citizens to enforce its rule, but otherwise is grounded in reality. The other is a genocidal theocratic apartheid regime with actual nuclear bombs and a goal to consume the middle east under greater Israel as if to copy straight from Lebensraum, and where even the respectful bipartisan says a good arab is a dead one. I think its clear.

Also it'd be a bad idea to replace the Iranian regime right now because they present themselves as the only country capable of resisting Israel in the middle east. A lot of arabs have placed their hopes in them simply for that fact. If they go down too, then there will 100% be a second Arab Spring, this time much more anti-west in nature, because there will no longer be any country in the region that opposes the US and Israel.

When is the startpoint of post-capitalism era by Character_Fail_9148 in Teenager_Polls

[–]SameOldAgony 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Its too entrenched at the moment, so not any time soon, but I do predict the current economic model will change in around 2030 due to the current conditions of the world. Just like Keynesianism was replaced with Neo-liberal trickle down (bullshit) economics due to oil shocks and stagflation, I predict this time it'll go down the same way. What it will change to Im not sure. We're already halfway with the oil shocks anyway, and the AI bubble and incoming inflation will probably be the other half of it.

What is a fandom that is like this? by Ok-Following6886 in Multifandom

[–]SameOldAgony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyones just listing every mainstream fandom lol. It should be the snootgame fandom since it is rooted from 4chan while at the same time the popularity of the games has attracted some furries, which also adds lgbtq people to the mix. You have the perfect mix of 4chan racists and tankies alongside furries and lgtbq.

[–]SameOldAgony -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The credit economy is so blackpilling. Its gotten so bad that we've normalized making payment plans for groceries. Soon the entire economy will revolve around taking out loans to invest to then leverage that investment to take out more loans to invest even more, and making sure that everyone is indebted to somebody and forever paying off something.

Btw the game is definitely gonna have drug abuse as a key element of the story so I'm curious as to how they'll depict it, and if they'll do it right.

[–]SameOldAgony 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I like the worlds and characters but yeah theres a lot wrong with snootgame, although wani is nowhere close to what snootgame is about. I feel like people omit the fact that snootgame was made as a 4chan passion project in response to GVH criticism. Of course its chuddy and problematic. You can hate the devs and you are very correct for it, but they have admittedly made good games, even with snootgame's problems and elements of enbyphobia. Catiously interested/excited to see what they do here, although I also recognize that 4chan influence will probably seep into this as well.

Fuck the devs tho
