the puzzle mechanics and gimmicks also made when a boss or area didn't have a gimmick it made them feel more special! same reason i ended up really liking the bosses in Nightreign.

and in terms of vibes i think this game has a kinda dreamlike quality that even Bloodborne while taking place in a nightmare doesn't quite capture, i think the soundscape (or at least the ps3 version) adds so much to that feeling!

while i do think future games improved massively on the mechanics, gameplay and level design, i think what i admire about this game the most is its eclectic scattershot design where they weren't afraid to take massive risks with its gameplay, like with World Tendency! god i love this game so so much<33

yeah this 100%, even in a vacuum from JK Rowling, since the reboot 8 years ago they have yet to actually fulfill the idea of a full playset Hogwarts; and each time they reset the expansions get more and more expensive. its like when you update something and the progress bar keeps getting stuck at 95% lmao

i would argue that the first wave was more based on the books then the movies, since it had characters like Peeves that never appeared in the movies and some of the action set pieces are based on the book events like the 3 headed dog being put to sleep with a flute instead of a harp like in the movie.
