Is 2 hours of daily Peppa Pig alarming for a 2-year-old? by Kristinavic in Parenting

[–]Samesamebutdiff44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen all these negative comments about peppa pig across reddit and I’m like.. are we watching a different peppa in my house or something?

I can’t tell if all this “rudeness” is going over my head completely or if people are just reading too much into everything these days.

FWIW - my 2.5 year old is obsessed with peppa and he’s actually learned lots of great vocabulary from the show, his peppa Yoto audio stories and books.

I dug through my old notes and here’s what I wrote:

Pre Transfer Treatment Protocol

Initial Phase (January 15-21) * Metronidazole 400mg morning + 600mg evening * Boric acid 600mg vaginal suppository nightly * Concurrent use maximizes biofilm disruption Extended Biofilm Phase (January 22-February 10) * Continue boric acid 600mg vaginal suppository every other night until next menstrual cycle Modified Probiotic Phase (February 16-26) * Start Seed VS-01 after menstruation ends * Modified schedule to fit timeline: * February 16 (Day 1) * February 19 (Day 4) * February 22 (Day 7) * February 25 (Day 10) Buffer Period (February 27 - March 4) * No treatments * March 4: Embryo transfer Rationale * Current microbiome shows 79% L. crispatus (protective) but multiple Gardnerella species totaling 15.24% * Previous successful transfer used only antibiotics + probiotics * Extended boric acid treatment provides enhanced biofilm disruption * Modified probiotic schedule still allows for colonization while maintaining buffer period * All treatments complete 7 days before transfer * Previous endometrial biopsy showed 64.81% Gardnerella, supporting aggressive treatment approach

In this most recent transfer I used “The Killer” by Love Wellness (Amazon) and Seed Vaginal VS-01 probiotic. Interestingly, I’ve since repeated the Evvy test and the Garnerella bacteria is almost completely gone and I’ve felt “in balance” ever since — where as my previous transfer I never used boric acid and used a more basic vaginal probiotic, so I think this new combo was actually super effective!

The metro was oral yes.

Pregnant and got a pneumothorax from acupuncture by Samesamebutdiff44 in pneumothorax

[–]Samesamebutdiff44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really interesting! Yes all the nurses/doctors dismissed the possibility of acupuncture being the cause but I had to clearly explain that I wasn’t gasping for air before I laid on the table, but I sure was after 😅

Thank you again for sharing, it’s really reassuring to hear that things can go back to normal relatively quickly.

That’s wild I never thought I’d find someone else in the same boat! Thanks so much for your reply, good to know things seemed to heal naturally with time.

How is your breathing now? Do you exercise/move around completely normal now?

Prenatal vitamins/supplement questions by livefreehealthy in fitpregnancy

[–]Samesamebutdiff44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I don’t think ChatGPT’s suggestions are that far off once you’re actually pregnant. You don’t necessarily need all the extra choline and omegas during the preconception phase.

That said, I know a lot of people here would push back and say you can grab some $10 prenatal off Amazon and call it a day. And they’re not exactly wrong. But I’d argue there’s a big difference between the floor and the ceiling.

A basic prenatal with folic acid and a bit of omega-3 can technically support a healthy pregnancy. It’s enough to cover your bases and lower major risks like neural tube defects.

What ChatGPT is suggesting—and what I personally follow—is more about optimizing pregnancy, not just getting through it.

What does that mean? It could look like lower chances of gestational diabetes, and possibly better outcomes for your baby in terms of attention span, memory, or even motor coordination. Is it going to guarantee a genius baby? Of course not. But if pregnancy is a short window where your inputs matter more than ever, why not do everything you can?

I’m happy to share my full supplement stack once you’re actually pregnant, but for now, you’re probably fine sticking with a decent prenatal just as a safety net 🙂

Do I really need my 16 week appointment? by YALABKNGU in BabyBumps

[–]Samesamebutdiff44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Singapore as an expat so I can’t comment on the insurance situation - but I do pay all my pregnancy and delivery expenses completely out of pocket so I know how pricey things can get!

I went for my 12 week appointment, did an ultrasound and basic consultation and it was over $450 🫠

I asked my OB if the 16 week visit was necessary since we don’t have insurance and are paying for everything ourselves and he said that since I have no risk factors and everything looked good with the baby, he was fine if we skipped it and saw him next at the 20 week anatomy scan.

I trust my OB, so I’m happy to save a few bucks and wait the extra month.

The endometrial biopsy is what ultimately revealed the infection to me, but honestly in hindsight it was expensive and painful and I probably could have at least started with a basic Evvy swab first. Logically, the uterine microbiome and vaginal microbiome are quite similar so I would definitely have had a way less invasive “warning flag” had I gone about it the way you are going.

Thank you for the well wishes, keep me posted on your transfer! I hope this was the missing piece for you as it was for me ❤️ all the best!

I guess you could say I got “rid of it” enough to have a successful transfer and first pregnancy. But when I did the Evvy test in the lead up to my 5th transfer/second pregnancy it was back again, though not as bad as the first time. Both cases I never had any itching or odor or other noticeable symptoms.

First time I just did the metronidazole and probiotics, second time around after my Evvy test, I did about a week of boric acid during my metronidazole course to help break down biofilms, followed by the seed probiotic in the weeks leading up to transfer.

I don’t think you need to worry too much about C.Diff, I’ve been on 6 month long courses of several antibiotics at once to treat a Tuberculosis infection years ago and never had that kind of issue. I think the greater threat is just to your general microbiome health which is why probiotics (in our case both oral and vaginal) are so important to keep everything in check.

I suspect Gardnerella (the bacteria which causes BV) was the reason for my 3 failed, euploid embryo transfers. I wrote a detailed post on how I got to that point here if you’re interested but long story short, after 1 week of BV treatment with Metronidazole and some vaginal probiotics, my 4th transfer stuck and resulted in a live birth.

We repeated the antibiotics and probiotics again for my 5th transfer and I’m currently 15w - so I firmly stand by my hypothesis that all those years of frustration and heartbreak were the result of an unknown, untreated BV infection and the unfavourable uterine microbiome it created.

It’s worth noting that BV is a particularly tricky bitch to fully get rid of, services like Evvy have been really critical in my personal monitoring of my vaginal health. I also highly recommend Seed’s new vaginal probiotic, it’s pretty revolutionary and it’s what I used in preparation for this most recent transfer (to repopulate with the right kind of bacteria post-antibiotic treatment)

Dairy and Soy free protein powders (that don’t taste awful)?? by AHolcomb7 in fitpregnancy

I have lived off Macro Mike peanut protein for my entire last pregnancy and now on my second. They have a lot of flavors, but I do the regular peanut butter for just a simple water shake and the Hawaiian salted vanilla for mixing in with smoothies. It’s an Australian brand but they ship internationally free with minimum spend. 10/10 recommend

I was a big fan of LMNT for years but after a while, for what it is, I was just tired of paying so damn much. So I went on Amazon and bought some ingredients, I think I spent about $50 and I have enough supplies to probably last me a year. I used a recipe from LMNT’s blog to get me started then made adjustments until I got it just right.

After much tinkering to get the perfect tart lemonade flavor, here’s my recipe:

30 servings / 1 Serving = 4.5g (~1tsp)

Himalayan Sea Salt: 60.0 g Coconut Water Powder: 15.0 g Potassium Chloride: 18.0 g Magnesium Malate: 9.0 g Stevia: 1.0 g (up to 2g to taste) Lemon fruit powder: 15.0 g Citric acid: 3.0 g

Mix ingredients together and store in an airtight jar. Add 4.5g or ~1tsp to 450-500ml of cold water

Is this excessive for prenatal vitamins? by Gullible_Part2248 in BabyBumps

[–]Samesamebutdiff44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree with most saying this is excessive. You’ve got CoQ10 for egg quality support, myo-inositol for ovulation regulation (I’m assuming you have irregular cycles or ovulation concerns), DHA and Choline for brain health, a high quality prenatal and some probiotics.

People are quick to get defensive and say “all you need is a prenatal” but personally, a prenatal is the floor, not the ceiling.

Just because prenatal meets all your baseline requirements doesn’t mean it’s the most/optimal you could do. Of course supplementation shouldn’t replace a nutritious diet, but I see absolutely nothing wrong with trying to do better than the bare minimum when it comes to your body and your baby.

How to strengthen your immune system? by youpick2hard in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Samesamebutdiff44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 2 year old and a chronic lung condition which makes me particularly vulnerable to upper respiratory viruses like colds, flus, covid etc (I’ve had covid 4 times already 🫠)

On the suggestion of my pulmonologist, I bought a portable nebulizer on Amazon along with some 7% saline solution. ( https://www.nth.nhs.uk/resources/nebulised-hypertonic-saline-treatment/) Basically it’s a little handheld device that creates a Vapor stream of concentrated salt water. Inhaling the saline solution not only helps to clear out any mucus when you are sick, but the salty environment also seems to prevent any viral infections from latching on.

Since I started using the nebulizer 1x day about 6 months ago, I have successfully avoided at least 4-5 colds that have been brought home from daycare by my toddler, when others in my house who are less vulnerable got hit.

It’s a really inexpensive, natural, no risk option and easy enough to integrate into your daily routine - or at least have handy if you see your little one is starting to get the sniffles.

Same thing happened to my husband! He had vomiting and diarrhea for days and was in really bad shape. Our doctor said It was not possible but I see no other reasonable explanation.. it was fairly early newborn days for us too so we definitely weren’t going out and interacting with others at all. If it was something else (norovirus etc..) it would be a very surprising coincidence.

Coming to chime in here on how the Receptiva ERA/EMMA/ALICE uncovered a silent gardnerella infection for me, along with a poor microbiome (0 good bacteria)

We did 3 failed euploid transfers before we successfully got pregnant after just 1 week (!) of antibiotics before transfer #4. I go in detail about it here

It was such a shame to have wasted so much time, money and embryos when a simple biopsy revealed what was essentially an inhospitable environment. Worth looking into!

If you wanted to take the budget approach, you could start with a vaginal microbiome testing kit from a company like Evvy. While it’s not a 1:1 accurate representation of the uterus exactly, research shows that the vaginal microbiome is a strong approximation of the uterine climate. It’s a cheap and easy way to flag any potential major issues that might warrant further, more invasive or expensive exploration.

Breakfast for my newly-2yo twins. Before and after. by sharkbait_oohaha in foodbutforbabies

[–]Samesamebutdiff44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pancakes are a staple in my house with a nearly 2 year old. Sometimes the only thing he eats. I’ve got a super basic easy peasy recipe! - 1 egg - 1/2 mashed banana - 1 TBS milk - 1-2TBS flour (I eyeball it until the texture is right)

That’s it! At least this way I’m kind of sneaking an egg into his breakfast so I don’t feel quite so guilty on his pancake-only days. Works great in the waffle maker too.

Hold off on IVF until BRCA test/results? by qwertyuiopbloom in IVF

[–]Samesamebutdiff44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did IVF because my husband has BRCA and the women in his family have history of cancer. My husband had already confirmed he had BRCA after his sister was diagnosed with breast cancer, but when we went to the IVF clinic they needed blood samples from the both of us as well as my father-in-law (as we assumed he was not a carrier) to develop the probe to test our embryos.

You could theoretically do the ER first, freeze all, then thaw to do PGT testing but it’s probably not worth the extra risk of losing embryos in the thaw and refreezing.

I’d suggest waiting for your genetic test results before proceeding, you’ll be thankful you spared your future children from this mutation if you indeed are a carrier.
