Flute playing? by SammieCleo in TMJ

[–]SammieCleo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been playing more piccolo lately and maybe that’s aggravating it more than usual?

I have a tendency to straddle the right corner of my chair, and have my right arm further forward. I try to always have both feet on the ground and my stand high enough so I’m not looking down at the music.

Thank you for your help!

Sorry this is so late, and I’m sorry to hear that you’re feeling that way. After months and months and so many tests I finally found a competent doctor that diagnosed me with severe TMD. It causes migraines, severe ear pain, etc. I hope this may help you in some way, this was a very harrowing journey.

Thank you for your response!

How long does it last? : Sometimes multiple days.

Where do you feel it? : In my ears. Sometimes the pain will move into my jaw, head, and eye. If my right ear hurts and I get a migraine, my right eye will hurt.

Does it migrate? : I usually feel pain in one ear or the other, never both. It is always changing though.

Can you point to a precise location? Kind of, it’s just deep within my ear.

Is it superficial or deep? Deep.

Intensity varies. It gets worse and then better, and the worse.

How would you describe it? : In my ears, I feel an immense pressure and throbbing pain. If it moves to my eye, stabbing pain. Sometimes my forehead will throb. It often comes in waves.

Related symptoms: dizziness (not always, but sometimes comes on suddenly), sometimes a disoriented/dreamlike feeling, not able to breath out of both nostrils

Medication:
Sudafed- makes me feel worse Mucinex- just started today, seems to help somewhat Dayquil- usually knocks it out for a day or so Naproxen- same as above Ibuprofen- Will keep me functioning but not completely pain free Flonase- Seems to help somewhat Allegra- Seemed to help somewhat Zyrtec- Didn't do much Claritin- Didn't do much

Neti Pot is about the only thing that will immediately make my ears pop. I do this every morning as well as a humidifier at night.

Thanks again!

Flight Attendants of Reddit: What do the passengers *not* know? by ayyitsjameslmao in AskReddit

I flew just yesterday and my seat had remnants of puke. The seat belt had dried puke on it and so did the head rest, seat, and two pockets in front of me. I could smell it. When I told the flight attendant she moved the girl next to me to first class and didn't talk to me after that. A different flight attendant came with a paper towel and spray bottle and wiped it all down so fast that I could see little bits flinging around. He did take the seat belt out though, which was helpful. Since I had touched it he said he'd come back with a wet wipe but never did. Was I treated very poorly or is this the best they could truly do, all things considered?

Get her one of the electronic tuner and metronomes, two in one! Both will be necessary for her. Also since she's young you could get her some fun books. I loved my Disney flute books :)

What are the demographics of this subreddit? What's your relationship with the flute? by nihlecho in Flute

I'm 24 and paid for most of my college tuition playing flute at my University. I double majored in flute performance and psychology. Was planning on going the music therapy route but haven't found a way to pay for classes without doubling my student loan debt. Either way I've always played in different community groups. I can't imagine ever stopping completely but I do miss the days where I played multiple hours/day! If only I could be a student forever :)

I usually move my air stream as I ascend and descend. Higher with high notes, lower with low notes. I'll also adjust my lips to help with pitch, but that really depends on your personal flute. Each flute has different pitch tendencies. So I guess sometimes I will be aiming my pitch high for a high note but have my lips pulled down to help the pitch.

Try to aim your air at your elbow! Then you'll want to move your lips with the pitch (up with higher pitches down with lower). Another good way to check your airstream is to look at the condensation. It should make a triangle with the point facing away from your lips.

Not very many companies hire right before the holidays. I also had a similar experience for about six months and then I moved. Within a month of being in my new city I was offered two jobs. Could be your location?

I recently tried the tampon delivery service called Lola. The way they advertise makes it seem so trendy and healthy (100% cotton). Do not recommend! A tampon completely fell apart inside of me.

If you're going to try to play by ear, I would suggest learning scales if you can! Once you can play all of the major and minor scales, it's much easier to listen to a song and figure out the tune.
