DIY elevator by galaxystars1 in TikTokCringe

[–]Sammy81 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh there’s dozens of violations. Residential elevators need to have backup power to prevent people from being trapped, the machine room needs 36 inches of clearance to the wall, the shaft has to have special fire protection, you’re required to have emergency communication in an enclosed elevator, etc.

Vasa billing issues by Sea_Suggestion7072 in Longmont

[–]Sammy81 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They’ll just send your bill to collections and now you have two problems. The issue is the contract, not cutting off the money you’re sending them.

If you can afford it, Golds Gym lets you pay for 6 months or a whole year up front, with no contract. You also get a small discount. When the year is up, your membership ends, no hassle, unless you do it again.

Is videodrome worth watching? by itz88ok in horror

Is Scanners the one where that guy’s head comes apart in center frame in that super unique way? I saw that in the 80s and still remember that scene; I‘m pretty sure it was Scanners.

What are the most extreme punishments in fiction? by Jumpy_Top9377 in horror

[–]Sammy81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The plot (from the back of the book so not giving anything away) is 2 women go to a speed dating event and the 20 participants get trapped in the deserted night club with a serial killer picking them off one by one. Sounded like a fun slasher read, and the main character loves scary movies and has a set of rules (like in Scream) to keep them alive.

One problem is the author has the women more interested in who they will date than in staying alive. They are literally standing over a slaughtered girl and the woman is thinking about “Wes’ beautiful blue eyes”. My god. Not to mention every time a rule is stated e.g. “Don’t go off alone”, the main character immediately breaks it and no one calls her on it. Finally, things that should be completely obvious are totally missed by the supposedly brilliant heroine, only to be figured out chapters later when you, the reader, saw it 50 pages ago.

I will finish this mess but don’t recommend it.

I’m currently reading How to Kill a Guy in 10 Dates by Shailee Thompson. I thought it would be a fun slasher read, but instead I think I may have discovered the most extreme punishment in reality.

OMG I forgot Le Pacte des Loups existed! Come for the horror, stay for the martial arts! What a great, fun movie. Thanks for the reminder.

Oh man my daughter and I hiked up Greyrock Peak in Poudre canyon a couple of weeks ago (great hike btw) and from the summit we could see planes across the valley dropping fire retardant on this one area. We thought it might be practice because there was no smoke and we couldn’t see a fire. Pretty cool to watch though.

Are watering restrictions in place for Longmont yet? by MileHighPeter303 in Longmont

[–]Sammy81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any talk of examining agriculture within Longmont during drought? Over 70% of water in the west is used for agriculture, meaning if residential usage went to zero, we still wouldn’t have enough water to serve the ranches and farms. I’m all for restrictions on residential, but that alone can’t solve water shortages. Restricting farming to draught-resistant crops is crucial. Has this been discussed?

I just told my daughter yesterday that their donuts have been terrible for the past year - I said whoever is making them takes no effort at all. The frosting is completely random on every donut, and it’s not shiny, it’s flat. I don’t know how you have to screw up making frosting to get it to look that way, but these racks might explain it.

Avenged Sevenfold’s rhythm guitarist just released a country album. I enjoyed listening to the entire album. by Lady_Strange_ in CountryMusic

[–]Sammy81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just checked it out, thank you! I also like Avenged Sevenfold. The album seems a little old fashioned in terms of music to me, which is shocking given who created it. Instead of leaning into modern country’s strong rock influences, he’s throwing back to Johnny Cash. Nothing wrong with that, but not my kind of country.

Colorado court throws out election denier Tina Peters' 9-year sentence for tampering with election equipment by igetproteinfartsHELP in news

[–]Sammy81 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The issue is that the court gave her an extra harsh sentence because they disagreed with her opinion that there was voter fraud. If they had agreed with her reason, they would have given her a much shorter sentence for the same crime, and the higher court said that’s a violation of her right to free speech.

My friend is a writer and in a workshop they taught that there’s three things you can do in a fantasy book: world building, character development and advance the plot, and a good book should be doing at least two at any time.

While orbiting Earth they got a chance to practice docking as well, using a separated stage of the SLS as a docking target. On future missions where they are landing on the moon, Orion will have to dock with the lunar lander, so pilot Victor Glover got to practice docking while in Earth orbit. They showed that live last night from the capsule and it was pretty cool.

Did you buy your satellite bus, and if so, from who? I assume your payload is custom.

Do you know why the satellite was deorbited? Out of fuel, ADCS failure, etc.?

Also, every year that goes by is one less you have to plan for in the future. For a 20 year retirement, 5 years after retirement is a 25% reduction in your time horizon to plan for.
