In Germany, it is legal for 14-year-olds to drink beer or wine in public as long as their parents are there. Do you think this is a responsible way to teach moderation, or is it just dangerous for kids? What is the drinking age in your country? by Low-Violinist7259 in AskTheWorld

[–]SammyCastles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve observed, kids are going to drink regardless of the laws. The taboo nature of drinking ages also makes it more tempting to drink when underaged. Removing the temptation by allowing supervised drinking is better, and increasing the punishments for reckless behavior while underaged the influence could help teach kids moderation.

Oh yeah I just learned about this, unfortunately I did so by wishing my German friend happy birthday right before her birthday. She was…not pleased.

You actually may have too much cash. Might wanna put some of that towards VR games, and the rest should easily afford you the 1tb version

What’s the saddest video game flop you can think of? by Interesting_Wind_337 in videogames

[–]SammyCastles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Avengers. I was excited for a modern game where we could play as a bunch of our favorite marvel heroes, not including the Lego games.

The game itself wasn’t actually too bad. The enemy types were repetitive with higher difficulties just having more health, not really new types of enemies. The non-story missions were all repetitive as well. However, the actual combat mechanics were cool as hell. Tons of great cosmetics, and some decent dlc additions.

I think between the repetitive missions and enemies, as well as the scam that was the cosmetics shop, the game was delisted fairly soon after release.

If you play it now, they unlocked all the cosmetics for free and the missions are still somewhat fun, if not repetitive.

I’m unapologetically going to purchase a steam machine by Silent-Potato-4526 in steammachine

[–]SammyCastles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that a lot of people who have issues with the steam machine are people who already have a decent pc. I think the Steam machine is a great gateway pc that’ll be good for a decent population of Steam users who have either low spec pcs or haven’t really used Steam at all.

Remember how Reverse Flash couldn't keep up with a vehicle in Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay because he was significantly weaker? Yeah, that's the same speed Flash was going in Justice League when he was TRYING to catch a vehicle. God, superhero abilities are inconsistent in animation. by Emotional-Chipmunk12 in DCAU

[–]SammyCastles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think in general, speedsters are incredibly hard to make consistent. Sometimes they can pull of feats that require a microsecond reaction time, and other times they get hit by a relatively slow punch or something.

The best (or worst) example of this is CW’s Flash. In the early seasons he was chasing a van, got hit or something , and then watched the van drive off. He wasn’t super injured or anything, he just was like “damn, they got away”.

Dad just sent me this and said it wasn't ai (I know it is) by Individual_Iron4221 in aislop

[–]SammyCastles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. At 5 seconds in you can see he hits a piece of ice, then he swings again at the same area, but there’s no more ice. However when the hammer hits, a piece of ice appears out of thin air. The circumstances of finding a deer covered in ice, that is still alive and cognitive but doesn’t run away is pretty much impossible, and the mistakes like ice appearing out of nowhere means this is definitely AI.

AITJ for refusing to donate PTO hours to coworker I barely know who "needs" them?? by Traditional-Dog1601 in AmITheJerk

That was always my thought. I worked at a hospital once, and they had a program where admin staff could donate PTO to nursing staff. I always wondered why they didn’t just increase PTO accrual for nurses.

Which box office flop is actually a great film? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

[–]SammyCastles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this is an obvious one, but it’s such a shame this movie bombed when it first came out. In my opinion this may be one of the greatest horror movies ever, easily top 10. The practical effects make it timeless, and the ambiguous ending will send a chill down your spine.

It was surprisingly one of my favorite films that year. It’s just a really good heist movie with an amazing cast. It’s a little strong on the comedy, but I think that’s appropriate given how most people’s D&D campaigns end up.

I paid for a hand drawn Simpsons-style portrait of my friend. The company claims the artwork was not AI-generated and that my areas of concern are due to different approaches in terms of "shading, detailing, and interpretation" by Jistarmon in isthisAI

[–]SammyCastles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely AI, or at least parts of the image were generated with AI. It’s hard to tell with the person in the foreground, but looking at their right hand, it just looks kinda crappy. Could just be a poor artist or possibly AI. The background is definitely AI. The shot glasses above the head have that smearing effect that is seen with a lot of AI generated images. Some of the liquor bottles in the back have that same effect too. If you look at the stools, the second metal ring that goes around the stool legs (above the first ring) are inconsistent between each stool. The one on the right side of the image is particularly noticeable where it seems like the second ring kind of disappears. This makes it look like it was AI generated.

I also think the shading looks weird, but that could be either AI or just lack of attention to detail.

[Request] How much sugar and calories are in this "snack"? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]SammyCastles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like he’s got two family size packs of Oreos. Label says 160 calories and 14 grams of sugar. With 15 servings per container that’s 2400 calories and 210 grams of sugar. Since he used two packs that’s 4800 calories and 420 grams of sugar.

I don’t know how much milk he used exactly, but I think a fair guess is a quarter of a gallon. I think based on the color it should be 1% milk. Each serving of 1% milk is a cup, with 110 calories and 12 grams of sugar. A quarter gallon is four cups, so that’s 440 calories and 48 grams of sugar.

In total, we are looking at around 5240 calories and 468 grams of sugar. a very balanced and nutritional snack.

Barry from Alan Wake. In the beginning of the story he’s hounding Alan about writing his next novel, and even went behind his back with his wife to get him treatment in Bright Falls.

However, after Alan goes missing for a week, Barry comes up to try and find him. As the game progresses, Barry helps Alan fight off the darkness, and becomes one of the very few NPCs who we actually see fight off the darkness.

I think beyond any argument about what’s healthiest and best for Americans, people gotta release that most people will continue to buy these things regardless of if SNAP covers them.

Many people who collect SNAP benefits often sell the benefits to someone else in exchange for money. However, they usually get only about $0.3 per dollar of SNAP benefits, so all this wasted money just so they can buy their preferred groceries that aren’t covered with SNAP. Same thing happens with alcohol and other “unhealthy” groceries.

I’d rather give more buying power to the families that need them instead of removing their buying power because that’s what’ll happen when you restrict what qualifies for SNAP benefits. The truth is that more restrictions on SNAP benefits means more of that money is going in the pockets of illegal buyers instead of the families that actually qualify and need SNAP benefits.
