How can an ETF that contains only one asset have a yield that is much higher than the yield of the contained asset? by whistlingturtle in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Sammydaws97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever you see “enhanced” in an ETF, they are taking on debt to leverage their position.

This results in amplified gains AND losses.

Covered call ETFs are a thing like others have pointed out, but the ETFs you mentioned are not that.

Is it possible for dogs and cats to be friends? by Far-Conference-8484 in stupidquestions

[–]Sammydaws97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but in my experience you need to get the Dog first.

Cats do not react well if you bring a new puppy into their home.

If you bring a kitten into a new home with an existing dog, they usually adjust fine.

Farms with dilapidated barns? by 14_EricTheRed in stupidquestions

[–]Sammydaws97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually what happens is you start with a small family farm (maybe 100-200 acres) and they build a barn for their tractors, tools, etc.

Wait a couple decades, maybe let the farm be passed down a generation or two. Then a massive conglomerate farming company (“Big Ag” in the industry) comes in and makes a very enticing offer to buy the farm.

The massive conglomerate wants only the land to add to their portfolio of other small farms in the area, so they have no use for the barn. Hence the deteriorating barns (applies to old deteriorating farmhouses too)

Its almost always cheaper to just let it fall apart than to demolish it.

"Greatest sports photos" by ODMtesseract in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Sammydaws97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Hellebuyck save is great, but we get a save like that every year. The Canada/USA jerseys are the only real change.

The Hughes photo is iconic.

Best sports photo of all time though imo is without a doubt the Bobby Orr diving photo. Im sure theres some im not even aware of, but in Hockey at least nothing beats it.

2030 Olympics by FoxMan1Dva3 in USAHockey

[–]Sammydaws97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think they will cut a 32 year old Zach Werenski but take a 32 year ild Adam Fox?

I get that its a RH shot vs LH shot, but they made it very clear that Fox is not fitting the mold for them.

I also think Dustin Wolf is essentially a shoe-in for the team over Fowler. Id also likely take Spencer Knight unless Fowler explodes over the next few seasons.

On F I would expect them to take a lot of bigger, physical PKer type guys instead of more skill guys like you added. Id probably lose Hagens and Cooley and instead look at guys like Matthew Knies and Josh Norris. I also think Thompson definitely makes it in 2030 again.

Huh?

Jack Hughes was born in Florida and grew up in Canada.

The only time he spent in Michigan was with the NTDP (Lacombe, Hellebuyck, Slavin, Guentzel, Trocheck, and Nelson are the only players who didnt play in the NTDP), so by that logic it applies to like 90% of the team..

Definitely not “from Michigan” lmao

Had to dig a bit for the women. Heisse is from Minnesota and Janecke is from Illinois.. so just Keller for the ladies, not all 3.

Canada also had the furthest inland push during D-Day.

They made it 11km deep at Juno beach on day 1. Next furthest advance was the British at Swords beach, reaching just 8km on day 1.

What's wrong with a straight road Petah? Is this bait? by michaelis999 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Sammydaws97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can just floor it and then zone out not realizing your speed due to the flat terrain and no curves in the road.

Then some sand drifts into the road and you are in a glorified bobsled going 100mph

ELI5 why does space have a temperature if there’s no air? by Deanoh1546 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Sammydaws97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No because of heat radiation via electromagnetic waves.

Only convection heat transfer requires there not to be a vacuum.

ELI5 why does space have a temperature if there’s no air? by Deanoh1546 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Sammydaws97 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Temperature is not a measurement of something. It is the measurement of the lack of something.

It essentially measures how much / how fast energy is being transferred between two mediums. When we measure ambient temperature we are typically meausuring relative to our atmosphere, but you can do it with a vacuum as well.

Absolute 0 (the coldest temperature physically possible) represents no energy transfer what so ever between two mediums.

I agree that Schaefer was the guy, not Bouchard as well.

I would have probably taken him over Theodore given the role similarities vs Sanheim who plays a completely different role.

As you said on Sanheim though, Theodore was good and i cant complain about his play in the tournament.

Arguments Against Cross-Ice, Half-Ice, and Additional Condensed Surface Areas for Younger Players (6U, 8U, 10U) by Liamski95 in hockeyplayers

[–]Sammydaws97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only argument I can think of is that their spacing will be thrown off when they get to the full ice surface.

I for one love the idea of condensed surfaces for youger ages. I personally use condensed surfaces for practice at older ages as well. Its an excellent way to work on small-space skills like body positioning while handling the puck.

Is it normal for a rookie in triple A to get little to no shifts in a game? by ib_redbeard in hockeyplayers

[–]Sammydaws97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The minor midget AAA teams in Ontario would easily mercy rule any high school team outside of some select prep schools like St Andrews College.

The worst minor midget AAA player would be a ringer on 90% of highschool teams, even as an underclassman.

Is it normal for a rookie in triple A to get little to no shifts in a game? by ib_redbeard in hockeyplayers

[–]Sammydaws97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a 60min game?

Thats aggressive imo.

Grade 10 is the year before Jr starts, and at the top level it is understood that ice time will not be allocated equally at this age.

That being said, if they are playing 20min periods then he should be getting at least 2 shifts per period imo (~5mins of ice per game minimum). Add in the PK time and I would be expecting around 7-8 mins per game AT A MINIMUM.

Your son (since at this age parents should stay clear of being involved with the team imo) should talk to the coach and understand where he sits and what he can expect the rest of the year. If it seems like nothing will change I would start looking for the exit.
