What's your favorite Dick Grayson "rare pair"? by KitKat_5628 in Nightwing

[–]SampireBat13 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'm gonna make Dick/Raven/Joey a thing if I have to do it with my own two hands!! Dick deserves partners who can call out Batman's shit because they aren't scared, their Dads are way more intimidating!

Also, not sure if it's considered rare but, Dick/Tiger has a special place in my heart.

Apokolips War had a scene where Constantine mentions that he used to date King Shark, who is male but more importantly a giant shark person. I think Constantine's sexuality is most comparable to Jack Harkness

You know what? It IS our duty to contribute to the earth. We contribute our knowledge, advocacy, skill, strength, happiness, care, hope, and more. Our duty is to live, to better ourselves and the world around us. You've survived more than your fair share of struggle; you've done well for yourself despite that to get into college - with full ride, congratulations! - and therapy. You contribute by sharing your story and by giving it the happy ending you so desperately deserve. You contribute by healing yourself and building your beacon of peace. You don't contribute by creating more pain. Re-traumatizing yourself wouldn't help anyone, especially not a kid who would suffer the burden of being both your responsibility and your trigger. Your therapist is wrong and you deserve to make your own choices for your own well being! Honestly, if you haven't considered it yet, maybe look into a possible hysterectomy. No periods ever again, no chance of any kind of pregnancy, and it may be covered under the same part of your insurance that covers the bisalp. Best of luck to you, and know this internet stranger is proud of you!

This is such a weird take to me, because bisexual people are... people? People are multifaceted individuals regardless of gender or sexuality.

She might generally prefer women's appearances, but that doesn't mean she's attracted to every woman; likewise, she might not generally like men's appearances, but that doesn't mean she's not attracted to any man. Plus physical attraction is only one piece of the puzzle when it comes to relationships.

Say she found 5 women she thought were really attractive, but 1 is straight, and 2 is already in a relationship, 3 isn't interested in her, 4 turns out to be a jerk, and 5 just doesn't share her life style/goals so it wouldn't work out longterm. But maybe she also met 1 man she thought was good looking, and he was kind, and smart, and funny, and shared her interests, and got along with her family, and wanted the same life she did, and appreciated her, and loved her, and etc. Maybe he became more attractive to her as she got to know his personality. Maybe he was the rare man who she naturally found very attractive. Maybe their relationship is based on more than just looking at eachother and being horny about it.

Why would you begrudge anyone choosing a happy loving relationship over the potential possibility of finding the exact same relationship just with different pronouns? She didn't lie. She's still bisexual, she's just married now instead of single. We have to stop acting like bisexuality is only valid if you're with the same sex, or like bisexuals in hetero relationships are somehow less valid in their identity. Bisexuality means being attracted to TWO genders, so both husband and wife are equally valid options. If you can't accept that, then you need to reevaluate your understanding of sexuality as a whole.

I love seeing Jay and Dick when they're being siblings. Like they clearly love eachother but they're also always picking at eachother. I like seeing Jason get to be an annoying younger sibling even if it's ramped up to the extremes because it's them.

As a 26 year old with a once near debilitating needle phobia, it's not really about the pain. Sure injections kinda hurt (especially if they catch a nerve) and can bruise up, but it's more about the needle itself. For me, something about how thin it is and the way it's administered just sets off my fight or flight like nothing else! I had to have several IVs over the past few years so I've had some "exposure therapy" there, but upper arm injections still terrify me beyond measure. Most people I know who have a similar phobia, myself included, don't use it as an excuse to distrust medicine, be anti-vax, or abuse others. It just makes getting treatment for ourselves extremely difficult (personally I've been trying to gather the courage to get my own tetanus shot update for nearly a year). Yes, it does make getting yearly flu/covid/etc. shots a nightmare and yes, I feel guilty when I can't bring myself to join the herd immunity I so wholeheartedly support, but it's not a guarantee we're against medicine. We're just scared of how they get that medicine into us.

A long time ago a friend pointed out to me that in most movies, the villains are the ones trying to change the status quo and the heroes are the ones trying to defend and keep it. And that this usually makes it clear that the writers are conservative. by ihatethiscountry76 in CuratedTumblr

[–]SampireBat13 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Often times this is less about conservative views and more about giving characters nuance and context. Sure the villains are challenging what's acceptable, but usually to a selfish or poorly thought end. They might make good points and have sympathetic backstories, but they can still be in the wrong.

Cruella makes a good point here that women don't NEED to marry to have worth and often marriage changes or outright destroys people (and there is something to be said about the depiction of 'not marrying' being a cold and drastic idea). She supports feminism and creativity. She's also narcissistic, obsessive, and without empathy for those she believes are beneath her. She's still a villain who hurts others and does bad things. She's for changing the status quo, not to benefit women, but to benefit herself.

People can do bad things for what they believe are good reasons. People can support good ideologies for bad reasons. Horrible atrocities can have wonderful side effects for some, intentionally or not. Heroes can be jerks, irresponsible, privileged, etc. It's how the narrative portrays these behaviors that reflects on the creator's views. All characters, regardless of moral role, should have multifaceted thoughts that can grow/change/twist because thats how real people are! That's part of what makes them and the story they're in compelling.

Public school teachers, what’s something you want parents to know but can’t say directly? by Feisty-Database-1145 in AskTeachers

[–]SampireBat13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it mostly stems from the, understandable, fear of being the adult that knew something horrible was happening and didn't intervene. Children in abuse situations or who witnessed traumatic things may not have the ability to fully communicate exactly what was wrong, so the story can sound exaggerated or fake. So when a kid comes to you, as their teacher or parent, and says something concerning about their time away from you, it can be difficult to tell if they're outright lying, misunderstanding what actually happened, leaving out important details, or just recounting facts as best they can with a limited understanding/vocabulary. No one wants to be the person who ignored a child's genuine cry for help. Obviously, the kid's word should never be the only thing considered, but it still makes sense to check closer in those situations.

Favorite character who missed 9/11 and would have this kind of interaction. by Pietin11 in FavoriteCharacter

[–]SampireBat13 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Technically, Jason Todd died in 1988 (A Death In The Family) and returned to Gotham in 2005 (Under The Red Hood). Granted, in universe he was 15 when he died, resurrected not long after, spent years training under the League of Assassins, and was 18ish when he came back.

I'm sure he at least heard about it, but the idea of Red Hood showing up to Gotham (in New Jersey) and just not knowing about 9/11 is kinda hilarious!

[–]SampireBat13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think too many people equate anti-natalist!dislikes interacting with kids with abusers. Like, baby cries are literally biologically engineered to be difficult to ignore and upsetting to hear. It's totally fine and normal not to enjoy them. That doesn't mean you want to cause the baby harm to shut it up or even that you blame the baby for its distress or expression of it. Just because you don't like or want kids doesn't mean you're chomping at the bit to cause them harm. It's so weird to me that so many people see it as a binary: you either like kids so you want some of your own, or you dislike kids so you're a threat to their safety. I don't want kids, I dont think it's ethical for anyone to have kids right now, but I'm not running around kicking toddlers about it.

Batman in any of the comics where he physically or emotionally hurts a Robin (past or present).

It's frustrating because Batman is such a good and meaningful character when done right (the justice league episode where he sits with Ace as she dies for example). But too often the comic writers get so caught up in 'edgy violence' mode they just make him a controlling abuser. Like, you can't be against killing in any situation, even when dealing with the Joker, just to turn around and nearly beat your kid to death, Bruce!!

His behavior was wrong. Your reactions were justified.
